to my sister-in-law Mary, who has gone home to be with the Lord and her husband Ed, my brother. This song is for you, the only other man in your life to touch your heart! I know that you were the consummate wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. RIP dear one.
Amazing Grace is one of the most powerful combinations of melody and lyric. I know few who can almost bring me to tears with its powerful message with their voice. This man brings it home perfectly. (this is coming from a guy who has not been to church in years.)
This was sung as sweet as I have ever heard. George Jones is amazing. Hymns take on a more special meaning when you know the Lord. I hope to meet George Jones in Heaven someday. Thank you for sharing this special footage of George Jones. God Bless You, Gwen Weaver
Thank God that he used Vestal Goodman as a precious tool to lead George to the Lord. Thank God for George Jones, the greatest country singer of all time. May we be blessed with his music for a long time to come.
Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Charlie Pride, Alan Jackson, George Straight, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams etc.... In the words of George Jones whos gonna fill their shoes just doesn't seem like theres any of them out there who will or can radio is full of no talent people with a catchy tune that gets old quick and a voice blender to make them sound better than they are.
Thank you for posting this song. It says it all. George Jones can relate to it since Vestal Goodman lead him to the Lord. I love this song, as I imagine many do.
In regards to women singing past their prime, you should remind yourself of music from Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Aretha Franklin and the list goes on and on and on.
My Lord, George! You caught it the way it was meant to be sung. I have had my share of the devils brew as well but thru the Grace of God have not had one in 27 years. I just had heart surgery that I think I was lucky to get thru. When I saw this video and I knew it was from your heart and that I was meant to see it. God Bless you George and with any luck, I will see you on the other side. I'll sign my name because it is said if you deny me here I will deny you before the Father. Ed Armstrong
Well it is coming up on a year that my mom left me and went onto her heavenly home. I thought it would get better but it hasn't. Her wishes was full filled at her funeral with George Jones singing this song. God bless him for doing this. He even sent me a signed picture in memory of my mom. Good man. Thank you Mr. George Jones.
LOVE AND FAITH are the words that come to mind when I hear George sing. He is the last of the living legends, thank goodness for Randy Travis who will keep the light shining on country music. Well on his way to also becoming a LEGEND I live you guys!!!!
hearing the great George Jones sing this makes my spirit soar !! Like my granny used to say " i soar and soar until i get so sore i can't soar no more" but seriously he is just so touching. i keep this clip in my favorites and when i NEED it or WANT it i listen and every time it seems brand new. if you read George's autobiography you know that he has lived on the top of the world and lived in the depths of hell so i can't imagine anyone anymore qualified to sing this beautiful, timeless song.
Im not a Christian, or a very spiritual person, But I cant say how many times ive listened to this video clip. It is amazing, his voice just gets better, its seasoned and age, he brings a tear to my eye with this amazing eperformance
George Jones is the King! The best country music singer that ever walked on this earth. The so-called 'country' singers these days would not know country if it was written down for them!!
Just wondering Is anyone else in the I wanna see him in concert but his voice anit the best anymore feeling. If you are or have been tell me if you plan on seeing him or did if you did say what it was like please n thanks :D
George's voice is a lot better in person! He has allergies an that is why his voice is weak sometimes. He an his doctor are working to get this cleared up before his next album though. Go, you won't regret it!
My mom loved this man. At her death she wanted this played and she past this past Friday. Monday she had it played at her funeral. People cherish your time with your parents and remember everything you can about them. It is so hard to not have her here with me any longer.
Im sorry for your loss.I dont know how your mom felt about alan jackson but as a song for you to lisen to I wanna stroll over heven with you might be a great song for you to hear :]
God bless you Amanda! My mom's favortie singer is George Jones and she turns 71 Christmas day. I lost my daddy 15 years ago to cancer and it was 5 years of healing in my heart before I could even talk about him without breaking down. Mom is in good health but she went thru cancer four years ago. She loves George and I like me some Hank Jr. We often josh each other about who is the best. I hope you are coping and you are in my prayers on your loss. The Lord will help you if you call on him
i can't figure out why men get so much better with age and women don't. ever heard an old woman try to sing past her prime? not pretty. but men seem to become more distinguished with time.
@hoover4000 Two more words , no three - Emmy Lou Harries. Not only great vocally but, oh my goodness, what an unbelievably attractive woman now. But then Emmy certainly isn't 'passed her prime'.
@charitylmc What about Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Loretta Lynn, Rosemary Clooney, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Mary Travers and Judy Collins? There are just as many talented older women singers as there are older men singers.
I know what you mean; however, If you're married, I'd suggest keeping THAT comment out of her ear. If you're single, get used to it. And if otherwise, I'm sorry - just being goofy tonight.
Love This Man, Love His Voice Even To This Day, His Voice Has Changed a Bit, But I like Better Than His Voice In the 80s Its Weathered and Seasoned Now,
Oh man this man can sing it can't he? This man is truly blessed, and at 77 his voice is still as good as it was when he first started a long time ago. I have his 50th anniversary tribute concert on DVD and I love it. All these country stars gather to pay tribute to him. His song "He Stopped Loving Her Today tells the story of my grandfather and grandmother very truly.
God Bless this may ... hes seen it all , and live through it , thank you Lord. Still here for all to enjoy. and it is a Joy... love your George... all over again.
Legend isn't a big enough word for this man, he has become more than that and hasn't had to go to the pearly gates to do it.
He has kept his feet on the ground all of his life, remembering the fans , and maybe remembering how he felt about his idol Hank Williams, and so how we feel about him.
He's also looking good , hope I look that good at 77yrs of age.
If I ever get to meet him all Id say with a firm handshake is "Thanks George" .
This is one of the best songs ever written, but untill you have been a wretch and then saved by his amazing grace, I really dont think many of you can understand the true meaning and feeling of this song, for I was once lost but now Im found, and I thank you Jesus for your amazing grace
A legend, a man who has been throu more in life then 10 others put together. Still pours his heart into a song. Wish stars now days would take alook at some of the ones who make country music and get back to basics. Its not about flashing lights, etc...its where the song and person singing it makes you feel the chill, makes you think he is singing about you.
A top ten gospel song, sung by in my opinion the greatest singer in the country music genre and in any genre for that matter. With age his face has wrinkled, and his voice may not be able to take us on that vocal roller coaster it once did but here's to you george. i dare anybody else to deliver a ballad like he can at the age of 77.
