  • Buy a decent vice, then you could twist the bar cold and have a more gradual twist for the length of the bar (typical handrail) you may have to put the picket (bar) inside of a small diameter pipe to prevent it it from developing a whoop. Or better yet, buy the Harbor freight picket twister. It's cheap and it works.

  • nice video! BUT, pick up that paper and cardboard because I dont want you to make an "Oh Shit!" video! LOL

  • thanx for the vid man

  • love it man, your a real artist. I do that with a coal forge, big vise, and tongs. But your way works just as well. Love the wrench tool idea, I will make one.

  • I'd rate it if I knew how

  • Hey Freddy,I think you make really great no nonsense videos. You have a great natural ability to explain in plain terms what you are doing. I like how you are explaining everything you are doing and why.

One suggestion on this video, wouldn't it have been better to use a cheap vise grip instead of the crescent wrench, which wouldn't fall off after the twist? :>)

  • @a500603497384 thanks for the advice ill give it a try once the burn ban is lifted.

  • Great idea !

  • ma va' a ciapa' i ratt

  • nice video

  • awesome video !!!

  • Great video! I did the same thing with my wrench. Then my buddy made me a set of "twisters" that's what he called them. Anyway he took some square tube stock from about 1/4 in.ID. up to about 1in.ID. and cut them about 2inches long then took some solid stock and cut that about 8inches long for the 1/4in. stuff then welded the square tube stock and the solid stock on as a handle. Then what ever size I'm working with i just grab the size to fit that stock.Work really well.Just slide the square tube

  • The best way is to take two metal lathe 4 jaw chucks mounted and powered to turn very slow controlled with a foot switch...

  • Nice video Freddy! I had seen something like this once before but the wrench/handle was something new. I'll have to make one of those now...

  • why is propane and oxygen setup cheaper. I guess because the propane is cheaper? How much cheaper??

    thanks great vids

  • Its not slag that you scrubbed off, its mill scale. But Im sure you learned this already. Good video, nice info... Keep up the good work.

  • @dieselwarriordotcom Thanks, I always say the wrong thing.

  • @freddytk421 Hey Freddy, I just wanted to thank you for the time you take to make this videos, and let people like me, who have never done anything like this before, learn and get started. Every time I go to an arts festival I see a lot of welded pieces, and NOW I know how they are made and I have a better perpective of that type of work. As soon as I have the space, I will give it a try...it always looked interesting to me, but I'm too lazy and busy to take a class...thank you!

  • @MiamiGuy1972 Thanks for the comment

  • This video taught me something....I need to make a table....I have been using the damn cinder blocks for my workpieces and tired of crouching down...that table just reminded me what to do now

  • @JCVDFan1 that table was the second thing I made. Things are harder to do without a good table. you need a way to adjust the feet to get it level if the ground is not level and big tires if you want to roll it around outside.

  • As always, educational and entertaining!

  • haha sweet dude i just found a railroad track and im makin an anvil out of it like at this moment

  • @coldsteelman777 Those make the best anvils. Send me a vid when you get everything setup.

  • @freddytk421 ok i will i used it today but i dont know what coal to use to get it hot enough can you help me wiht that

  • @coldsteelman777 you need a way to blow air through the coal to get it hot enough. Do a search for homemade forge or something like that.

  • dude thats nice i want to try it

  • Good job.. thanks for sharing with us..

  • Thanks for watching.

  • I love watching the metal twist and change shapes. There is nothing like handmade metal art. It has more character and the soul of the artist is in it. I would like to see more metal bending vidoes

  • Thanks@Metalartsmeetup

  • i like how you used the wrench, thats a good easy to do method . great video freddy. 5 stars

  • Wow, that's cool Freddy!! Thanks for the Demo!!

    5*s!

  • Love your videos Freddy. Thanks!

  • Thanks Flaeke

  • Great how to!!! By why didn;t you just buy them pre twisted?

  • This isn't for the rail. This is for making art stuff where you will need different sized twists in different places going different directions....etc

  • Envious of your cobra torch

  • Perfect!! I was just looking for this type of tool on line with no luck I plan on making a Zoeller Forge here pretty soon and making some RR spike knives with twist handles.......you must of had a burning ear......thanks once again Freddy

  • Stay out of my brain!!

  • When I get an O/A torch, I will try twisting a few pieces square stock.

    Thanks for posting,

    John

  • Cool! Are practicing your twisted pickets for your upcoming railing project? Would a rosebud tip work or do you have to use a cutting-type tip? Do you know that HF has a picket twisting attachment for their floor mounted bar bender? Check out item number 36620 on their website. Again...nice vid!

  • No thats going to be just straight bars. Thats a cool twister I have one of those benders I wish I could try that attachment out, I don't see how it could twist these bars but it can bend them pretty easy so maybe.
