"Im on the verge of tears when we arrive at Espace as im certain we won't have a decent table. But we do. And relief washes over me in an awesome wave."
This is one of the funniest scenes in movie history. The way bateman is just so GIDDY at the prospect or killing Paul is hilarious every time. I crack up every time he says "Yet it is!" He's just so happy.
Christian Bale is the most under rated actor of all time...he is BRILLIANT!!!!! Nobody could have done this role any better. I honestly dont even think Johnny Depp could have pulled this off like Bale, and Depp is my fav of all time
I'm seriously not a fanboy, because my opinion isn't worth squat - I rarely see new releases - but I can't help feeling that Bale, despite his personal life, is one of the greatest actors I've ever seen.... have you guys checked out 'Equilibrium'? Otherwise known as the British Matrix? ;-)
Early in the movie, Bateman comments that he is listening to the new Robert Palmer album. The song that's heard during this scene is "Simply Irresistible", which was on his album Heavy Nova, which came out in November 1988.. But the Ronald Reagan speech seen at the end of the movie occurred in early 1987, not 1988.
that paul allen murder scene reminds me so much of what it's like when you're hanging out intoxicated just chilling and one of the people around you starts getting really intense and it gets really uncomfortable.
The social satire the movie and book were is captured in these two scenes. If you have not seen the movie, this was its essence, not the over the top gore or shock. Those scenes were provided as a stark contrast of who he was and who he believed he was.
In the end you are left with the question, "Which of the polar personas was the most insane?"
The obsessively polished Bateman devoid of any sign of life, or the psychotic Bateman fulfilling all of his animal urges.

And Jesus Christ yes, CDs were on the market in the late '80s ("AP" is set in '89). My family was solidly Middle Class, had one by 1985/86, and I'd saved enough to purchase my first Discman in 1990.
@scarred2112 How well did those early CD players decks hold up? I remember '90's-era Discmans being sensitive to the touch........how far we've come.........
@SuperAdventures I can't speak for all brands from back then but a lot of the non-portable CD players were built very well in comparison to what you'd find nowadays
@SuperAdventures Mine held up extremely well. Mid-90's I purchased a "Car Discman" (extra resistant to heat/cold if left inside) that had so many in/outputs I was able to use to run my iPod into my car stereo w/o a Aux Input before that car moved on. And even in the early-2000 you could buy a portable player that could read CD-Rs which was a cheap "get-around" for around $25 USD. The times, they have changed... ;-D
@kittymouse86 Perhaps they were around but could only be acquired by rich people. After all, the recurring theme of Bateman being obsessed with wealth happens often throughout the movie
@kittymouse86 A friend of mine's Dad had a CD player when they were pretty new to the market, around '83-84. Cost about $900 just for the player. Can't remember how much a CD cost though.

The movie is suppose to take play in 1987, but it cant be for these reason:
1. When Prostitute in bathtub, u hear Simply Red "If you dont know me by now" playing which was releases May 1989
2. In dance you hear Information Society "Pure Energy" playing which was not on radio til Late 1988
