Wonderful to hear it live, and I agree it sounds at least as great as the cd. I've loved this song since I first played the cd. It took awhile to be able to sing along with the first stanza, a tough cadence.
I call this song the greatest "melodic mourning" song, with such a great title and how it works into the song. My favorite line is "he came down and took you too soon" - perfect. I lost a sister at 24 to a brain aneurism, I sing to her.
darius rucker is a brilliant singer/songwriter...he is also a good guy. not even the trees is such an amazingly profound song. it has always been one of my favorites. two years ago, my best friend of many years and college roomate, unexpectedly passed away. i dont know that i will ever be able to make sense of his death. i can relate to everything about this song. it brings a sense of peace to the loss of my friend. they say he is in a better place. i wish he was still here. thank you 4 posting.
If anyone could tell me another singer who can sing live EXACTLY like he sings on the albums, I mean please, by all means prove me wrong when i say he has probably the most incredible voice I've ever heard. My favorite song of theirs too
@slapshot4151 Well not to harsh on ya to much, but there are other artists who can sing like their albums if not better. I agree though you can't help but be moved by his voice. Kinda disappointed in the amount of views so far.
Love the whole album, come back Hootie

The concert is available on DVD and is called Summer Camp With Trucks. I got my copy from hootie.com a few years ago. It's a great gig.

One of the best Hootie & The Blowfish songs. Hell, almost EVERY song they've done is tremendous.

I think that the bass riffs (played as a lead guitar) are the more amazing component of this brilliant song. Dean CAN play . . .

@22zson C'mon man. Wikipedia this song. He wrote this after his mother died. I'm willing to bet he does, in fact, give "a fuck."
