  • I do the face thing too. I think it's bad ass.

  • Thanks Marty. Playing minor scales and licks seems so much easier for me than the major ones. I really struggle trying to play major leads. I need more help!!! Can anyone help me?

  • 600 videos soon?

  • @Pegotzombie Yeah sure...

  • does marty still with rockongoodpeople?

  • What tone are you useing?its beautiful.

  • sexy guitar :D :D

  • @ 5:30 is freakin awesome i wish I could play like Marty

  • so good mann .. love all his videos

Thanks a lot Martin. Love from Denmark

  • 3.10. XD

  • Mother of god, you inspire me to the fucking max Marty. It's unreal how awesome of a teacher you are, and how much you've already expanded my playing (and I've only watched like 5 or 6 of your lessons). Like, every weekend I go to jam with my band and I have a new epic technique I've absorbed from your lessons, and my band mates are just amazed. Of course, I always credit you (and I encourage my other guitarist to check you out as well), and I definitely owe it to you to buy your dvd set.

    Peace

  • does anyone else think he sounds just like Jonah Hill from Superbad?

  • Could you play E Minor Pentatonic, G Major Pentatonic and G Minor Pentatonic in the same solo? I'm just not sure, I would yes because E Minor is relative to G Major and G Minor is parallel to G Major. But could you do that?

  • Brilliant Guitar playing, and NICE HAT!

  • Nice teaching. Since we're on topic of guitars, we buy vintage guitars. See profile for additional info.

  • El tipo te hace sonreir cuando lo escuchas... un grosooooo!

  • your face at 3:10 priceless dude!!

  • no new fingerings :( i love fingering

  • @thesuperfilms LOL you sound a bit perv lol

I can help is not hard what you are asking

  • why is marty doing a video for rockongoodpeople? o.O

  • nop e maj=c# min

  • Love the sound of the heritage guitar man...would you guys say that a Epiphoe Dot with some seymour duncan seth lovers would be at least a bit close to a kick ass guitar like this one?

  • dude, i wanna just listen to you guys jam.

  • thanks for this, I haven't learned any guitar theory so this helped.

  • where is your wig?

  • nice. kinda allman brothers type sound. i like it haha

  • Zakk........Other way around. The E minor pentatonic is the same as the G major.

  • marty is a great teacher

  • i need this blues theme.. where can i find it? HELP :)

  • So, the G minor pentatonic is the same as the E major

  • actually, i think it's the other way around... i know when i play E minor pentatonic i also tend to use G major in the same solo... i might be wrong though.

  • smoke dope

  • if you like his lessons...try his dvds. they are awesome, i finally felt i owed it to marty to buy

  • How come when I play the exact same notes as him they don't even sound 10% as good as him?

  • coolness

  • Your one cool dude, 10/10 for inspiration!

  • thanks soooo much marty you unlocked so many doors for me =D

  • hey bro keith here from athens, ga. man you have opened so many locked doors for me. most guys on here are complete idiots. i, as well, teach guitar but am personly exploring more in different jazz stlyes(always my weakness) but you have just been great. thanks so much!

  • Great player...awesome TEACHER! You've got a gift for explaining things so they make sense!

  • can you do an easy lesson for me because im new to guitar playing and i think you are very good at playing the guitar and i think you are very nice

    please

  • His face at 2.50 to 3.00 is brilliant. Cracked me up!

  • Great Lesson! this one convinced me to buy the CDs. Now you just have to make me sound like that.

  • Me 2! I never put 2 and 2 together. Ive just been playing the major scale from the pinky. So obvious now it follows the minor pent shape! Cheers mate

  • i was just wondering the other day why slash played the e minor pentatonic scale in knocking on heavens door because that song is in g i had no idea that was the same scale. Thanks alot man this just opened up a whole new world for me i think i will try some of that stuff at my show tonight thanks

  • i like the marty. good simple stuff in easy to understand words.

  • nice playiiing

  • that jam at the beginning sounds so cool =). happy and sweet jazzy blues.

  • Something that helps me when I get lost is this - minor 1 2 flat 3 4 5 flat 7

    major 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Marty shows the pinky on the root but if you notice he also slid up from 5th string root bar chord so if you start in the bar chord shape and slide up a step you are there.

  • minor lose that 2(oops)

  • I just tried this with Marvin Gaye's "Piece of Clay", trying to play along with the wailing guitar...it works GREAT, especially the idea about switching back to minor at the end. Great lesson Marty and nextlevel, yall are AWESOME!

  • His guitar is a Heritage. Which I believe is made in an old Gibson factory in the midwest.

Not sure on the model though.

Marty......Your the man, great teacher and funny

  • That was HUGE help to me.You´re a great theacher!!Well done.Keep up the civil service!!!!many thanxs from Portugal.

  • Awesome video likes always! Thank you

  • Awesome playing and awesome lesson Marty.

  • very nice lesson marty is the man

  • What is the guitar being played in this video?

  • a heritage, which if i recall correctly is made in the old kalamazoo gibson factory.

  • thats awesome

  • nice :))

  • Hey Marty, great lesson as usual!

But I have a question: do we have blue notes on the Pentatonic Major scale? If yes, where are they, and how should we use them?

Also, could you please do a lesson on your picking technique? I know you have some tricks on yo bag!

  • Love you lessons Marty!!! I always learn something new from your lessons even though I've been playing guitar for 10 years.

  • I am a big Allman bros fan so getting dialed into how they get their sound is great. Thanks for the vid.

  • i wanna no where else to go on the neck

like ok i got the box form pent scale down

but when i play it sounds the same cuz i dont no where else to go

  • chrissept21,

learn all the notes on the neck, most important part theory wise anyway...than you can play all over the neck. Add on note on each string at a time to your known box, memorize them and do a little jam on a backing track till you got them down, then add some more. Takes some time, but you get to know your neck. Just Experiment.

  • thanks

i think that i will do that

is there any pattern at all to it?

  • Chrissept21,

Of course there re "patterns" as much of them as you want, but patterns only get in your way, you want to get away from playing in patterns to play all over the neck. Learn the Notes on the fretboard and the notes of the scale you want to play. As for patterns, search google, "minor pentatonic scale patterns" there should come up everything you want to know.

  • can you give me tab of what you just played? thatd be great

  • Marty for president !

  • id vote 4 him

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO! :D

    LOVE IT!

  • how come when i play the pent maj scale ... it doesn't sound anything like when you play it? lol

  • Yeah... rock on !!!!

  • Great lesson, thank very much

  • marty:"now you are cookin" yeaaahh

  • salutations

  • "I'm nervous, I'm nervous. I'm scared."

    hahahaahah funny as fuck

  • the only good vids that rockongoodpeople put out anymore are marty's

  • "fancy Greek named scales" .. LOL spectacular.

So we can play Scalus Penta Majorus in Aolian.

Cheers. Fantastic lesson Marty. Rock on with your bad self.

    Cheers.

  • Marty looks so happy when he is playing the major scale.

  • Marty can you upload that jam track you have playing the background? Or does anyone know where to get one that is similar that I just just loop over and over again?

  • "They share the same uhh... musical DNA." Haha! If you came up with that there and then that is hilarious! Sorry, but I'm stealing that one, (May

    include a footnote)

  • Marty, your an awesome player & teacher.

  • Thanks, that's really helpful. As a piano player, I already knew about how C and A minor are related, but I didn't realize the scales also where.

But thinking about it... they obviously are. This will really help my soloing.

  • damn, imagine listening to that with some overdrive

  • keep it up marty this was a realy realy great lesson i learn so much from you and david

  • marty you rock! because of you i really understand how to use pentatonic and blues scales! WOOOOOOOO you ROCK!

  • Marty you never disappoint.. good stuff

  • Dude, you rock!

    thx

  • whats pentatonic? :S

  • I've learned alot from your previous videos but this video just sent my playing and creativity into a whole new direction! Thank you very much for this lesson!

  • i know all 5 pentatonic positions yay!!!1

  • major pentatonic is the best!

  • can you guys bring a pure metal shredder kinda guy.....tnx

  • well, i think this dude is kinda advanced, in a blues way =)

  • I'm sure he is but he doesnt play like the stuff a satriani, vai, hammett kind of advanced

  • Once you got this stuff down, just turn the tempo up on your metronome and it'll work out much the same way...heh.

Except for the tapping, but there's probably thousands of vids on tapping.

  • dude plz check out my videos i just wanna get one of those guys for other ppl plz check me out
