OMG! I remember watching this...on Saturday morning...then running up to my friends house going.."Did you see Loverboy on American Bandstand?" LOL! It was great! At the time, was one of our only outlets to see music on TV, as it was before MTV in my corner of the world. :)
@Cap285 Don't forget Rush and the Guess Who. But alas, like the rest of western culture, we've taken the slide. Style over substance has made it north of the border too.
@babajii321 Afraid so. We gave you guys pop culture, acid rain and the threat of getting caught in a nuclear crossfire. Sorry dude.
I did mention Rush, I did not remember the Guess Who for some reason. So, I will say thanks again for them, BTO and Steve Yzerman. I saw Yzerman skate two directions at once. I Swear.
@Cap285 So you did mention Rush. Shame got the best of me when I saw Bieber's name. And for that you have my/our apologies. But BTO and Stevie Y. surely must be worth some compensation.
@babajii321 Hell yes. Yzerman was great! But man, did he kill my Blackhawks in the 80's. No apologies needed. I should apologize for my countries pop-culture/machine/complex ruing music, TV and society in general.
@Cap285 Stevie killed everybody. One of the greats, to be sure. So, guess you and I will become enemies this spring when the Hawks take on my Bruins in the finals, eh?
No apologies necessary for the pop garbage that permeates the airwaves now. It's not like we're forced to buy it. Besides, the Chinese own everything now...
@babajii321As far as I'm concerned, I'm OK with any original 6 team winning the Cup. Hawks and Bruins would be one for the books. I also remember, if we miraculously got past Detroit or didn't have to play them, freakin' Edmonton would destroy us in the Campbell Final.
Bruins huh? So much history. I have an autographed picture of Bobby Orr on my wall. Phil Esposito is in the background of the shot. Don't get me started on Ulf Samuelsons cheap shot on Cam Neely.
@Cap285 Guess I could live with any original 6, too. Well, any one but the Habs. Hate them with a passion. Not my fault, though. It's in the Bruin DNA. Can't see the Wings pulling off another. They're getting a little long in the tooth, I think. The Oilers? Not yet. Too young. And the Sharks will do their annual choke-fest. Dallas will be your most formidable opponent.
Yeah that bastard Samuelson. One of the happiest days of my life was when Domi clocked him. Karma's a bitch, eh?
It IS lip-synching. Every band on American Bandstand lip-synched. Occasionally, the vocalist (only) would be live, but the rest of the band just played to tape (audio track). This is a subject I happen to be an authority on (I won't say exactly why) but you can absolutely trust and believe what I say...it's LIP-SYNCHED
@companyof8 It's not lip synching. It's the synching of the audio track with the video track when it's formatted for upload. Check out the clapping at 2:33
With the video out of synch like this we don't get the full impact of Matt Frenette's bug-eyed spasms on every one and three count. The man is a Can-con legend.
Mike Reno sure looks like Emilio Esteves. Great band saw them in Oakland on a Day on the Green w/ Foreigner, Iron Maiden, & the Scorpions. Great 80's arena rock all the way. Thanks for posting this song.
Americans do things like explore the heavens, send men to the moon and return them safely to earth. Canadians do things like make maple candy and moose hats.
@LegPains Yeah, nice and edgy, but not overdone. The sound quality for "back in the day" is excellent. Got this tune on my ipod and love crankin' it during a workout.
yea i agree this tune gets me fired up big time ! its too bad there are no real Live performances of this tune on here from the 80s as this is obviously totally synched and they arent even playing here
This is when they were on "American Bandstand" and they performed "Turn Me Loose" earlier. It was the first time I ever heard of them. Great Memories that's for sure.
great song. too bad even the lip synching is a little unsynched with the video. No cords on the guitars and i'm not even sure they had wireless mics back then. funny but a classic.
AB wanted songs to sound as they did on the radio, not some jacked up out-of-tune live version, so of course they used pre-recorded music. However, it was not necessary for bands like Loverboy who could actually perform their sound live.
I didn't mind the lip synching at all. never knew what was the big deal over that. You know the band performs the song. Besides this way you got that studio sound everytime. This is one of my favs from 1981
If a band can't come very close to sounding like they do in the studio I don't mind lip syncing either, but it better be done well to at least give the illusion.
GREAT VIDEO, too bad shows back then frequently used lip synched performances. Loverboy is/was incredible live! Still great to see the boys playing on American Bandstand! Thanks for posting! :)
the audio is a bit off at the beginning
