  • this is a great video! you explain it very well. thanks!

  • I renewed my interest in knitting after reading loomknittingnow (.) com

  • Thank you! I've been knitting for nearly 30 years and I only ever knew the purl stitch! This is the first demonstration of the knit stitch that I've actually understood. I'll get there in the end. :o)

  • Thanks for this video!! Very helpful, and I don't hink you went too fast at all, you slowed down several times to illustrate the stitch. Thanks again!!!

  • Oh i love your accent :) and the way you explained this was really helpful :) I heart knitters. :D im making gloves and the instructions called for a stocking stitch and i had no idea what that was. well i did just im not used to the english names of the stitches. :D glad i came about your vid.

  • Wow I've never seen anybody using the tecnique for knitting that you do. It's very fast and I've got to try it.. ;) Although I still knit quite fast.

  • how do you make reverse stockinnete?

  • i wish i could knit that fast, i would be done with my knittings in no time!

  • You're knitting way too fast. How can a new knitter learn from you?!

  • I'm new to knitting. This video was so helpful! Thank you! I find that my knit stitches are much tighter than my purl stitches. I still need a lot of practice :)

  • I should have watched this first b/c I cut off my work for the upteenth time - I'm very very new to knitting and thought I was screwing it up!

    thanks!

    thanks!

  • Yes, I agree with perigo22. You're very thorough and work slowly, so that we can see. :)

  • This was super helpful and very easy to follow!

  • thank you ive been trying to figure this out for the last 3 days

  • You are my absolute FAVORITE knitting instructor. Your directions are clear, and your work can be easily seen.

  • gah! is there anyway to make it not roll up? x

  • I just started knitting, so I'm definitely a beginner---but you made this rather easy to follow! Thank you!

  • thanks! nice to hear a fellow aussie on u tube!!!

  • Thanks so much! That was so helpful, I can never remember which side should be facing me for which stitch! :)

  • I can't seem to purl right. when I try to do the stocking stitch it looks like the garter

  • When I turn up the volume, the background noise in your video sounds like a purring cat lol. Thanks for this helpful video!

  • Jeeze you knit quickly.

  • That's the stitching I use! However, I've noticed in your videos I've seen the way you hold the yarn in your right hand, as I only loop it around the first finger, I've never been taught the way to loop it around the other fingers. Would you happen to have a video that shows you how to hold the yarn that way?

  • thanx 4 makin a great vid!! it helped me loads u explained it very clear thanx!!!!

  • umm can u answer this? okay im making this thing and it tells me to stocking stitch 2 rows. does tht mean 1 knit 1 purl or 1knit 1purl 1 knit 1 purl?

  • Are you making the little big planet sackboy? Cause I have run in to the same problem

  • haha yeah . but i`m finished already . i made two . ^-^

  • Lol thays funny. I made one but I can't get te fingers right. Time to ask grandma again!

  • lol , the fingers are really hard ! T^T

i just managed to make ugly fingers tho . :P

  • Elsteffo, how do you make both sides of the stockinette stick smooth?? I want both sides to look the same...Thanks

  • To make a flat piece of fabric which has both sides smooth, you need to use a technique called 'double knitting'. It involves using two strands of yarn at the same time. If you search for double knitting, I'm sure you can find a good video on it. Good luck! Elsteffo

  • wow thank you so much. im just learning more complicated stitches and this has helped me immensely. and everyone is right. you move so quick! Thanks again!

  • Very helpful, but also very fast. Almost to fast to really see what you were doing.

  • This video is more a demonstration and explanation of stocking stitch itself, rather than the individual stitches. If you'd like to see a slower video of the knit stitch, watch my video 'How to Knit Basics - The Knit Stitch and Garter Stitch'. If you'd like to see a video about the purl stitch, watch my video 'How to Knit Basics - The Purl Stitch'. Have fun with your knitting! Elsteffo

  • omg this is so useful.

I cant wait till I can knit that fast.

  • brilliant! the best in youtube!

  • First, I never saw anyone knit so quickly in my life!!! Thank you SO MUCH for making this stitch very clear to me, so quickly. You have also shown me the pearl stitch - I appreciate this very much!

  • I always wanted to learn stockinette and now I do! I got tired of making scarves using the garter stitch. It gets boring, you know? I'm going to fave this!

  • Thank you! I've had trouble with the stockinette stitch for a few months, but now I understand better how it works!

You hands move like lightning, haha.

  • thank you for that great tutorial, stockinette demystified!

  • I really need to know how to prevent the rolling on the sides and bottom of the stockinette stitch. Can someone direct me to a video that can show me how to stop this? Thanks.

  • I don't know of a specific video that shows how to do it, but you can prevent curling by adding a border of garter stitch, moss stitch or seed stitch around the stocking stich fabric. About six rows at the top and bottom plus three to four stitches at the side will usually be enough to stop the curl. Good luck!

  • This was eaiser and clear to understand for me thanks

  • My goodness you're fast!!

  • I luvvv your info thanx

  • your accent.

  • I'd like to learn that.
