South Vietam was supposedly democratic but it was actually quite corrupt because of its President; Who was Catholic unlike the rest of the nation and rested comfortably in Saigon. The Viet Cong heavily opposed S. Vietnam and began attacks using guerrilla warfare. N. Vietnam also attacked the South with the NVA. The NVA and Viet Cong had similar causes but were not directly allied.

Ho Chi Minh asked the U.S. for assistance but the U.S. did not respond. The Soviet Union on the other hand did and gave military weapons and supplies to Vietnam. The French were forced to leave but the U.N. intervened before Vietnam could be completely taken. A DMZ similar to Korea was created.
