@gsexcellence Yes I think you are right also. I think they should have kept the 3800 in the impala. My mom also had an 05 Grand Prix and that was a good motor just very underpowered for what it was (only 200 HP). Sad that in it's glory days the engine powered the GNX...
Anyway I hate to say it but if GM doesn't do a redesign the impala will be gone. My prediction is that it will b gone by 2013 and will b replaced by a Rear Drive G8 replacement (Caprice)
@LilJWzzle You know I miss our 98 GP GT Sedan it was so sexy, low and sounded so good. But I guess my mom's G6 G8 GT coupe relived that lol.. Yea they are supposed to but I'm thinking it will be a stretched lacrosse/ or same plat form but with the 3.6 standard.. ( For some reason I feel they should make it like the Overseas Opal insignia with the 3.6 turbo (I think that's right) awd /Buick GS and Just make that an SS version while the Regular car should be the Caprice... I forgot about the GNX.
No v6's, wow stupid move (gm 6's get great mileage) Oh well guess I'll wait for the impala with the 3.6. GM should consider if Chrysler can do RWD they can to.. At least Hyundai/Kia's 4ys have opt. turbos that make real power.. (What happened to gm)
@gsxellence Yea, i'm kinda worried about the 4 cyl thing. I've ridden in a 4 cyl Cruze and it seems to almost struggle, so I have no clue what the new Malibu is gonna be like. Idk whats wrong with having the 3.6L V6 in the Malibu, that's whats in my Mom's car and it freaking rips (for being what it is) and gets around 25-30 MPG.
@LilJWzzle I think what they are doing is down sizing it again, because the 2012 impala will have the 3.6 as a sole engine close to 302 hp or so. Just like with the altima when it was redesigned larger in 02 more power, in 07, they actually made it a little smaller on the outside lil more room inside but power was kept lower then the new Max but then the new max added a 3.7.. I don't know but your right. the only fours that made decent powers were in the Cobalt and HHR (Early Grand am/malibu's)
@Xbox360Player350 Really dang your' right I forgot that it was just increase in power... to almost seem as if i twas a 3.7... What is weird is that there is no manual in the Maxima any more though this one I feel would of been a joy unlike the 04-06 which with the manual that I drove felt to big and more like A highway car...
@LilJWzzle If it's like the Cobalt's strong 2.2/2.4's shouldn't be too bad of a problem but if its like you say with the cruze 4 I do believe it could be a fail. (Thank God for Aftermarket) :) Your mom is Awesome that Malibu is so Sexy with the Rear looking like the Last Gen Mitsu Diamante :)
One would think that with the govt bail out money, GM could afford to implant a v6 in this midsize car. GM, you just lost a sale and many others who might agree with me.
A nice looking vehicle ( I own a 2008 Chev Impala LTZ and LOVE it) However, GM might possibly lose me and many others due to NO V-6 engine being offered...
I know we want good gas mileage but here in Wisconsin, especially on hills in the winter, one wants POWER as well!!! Good Luck GM, you should offer the V-6!!!
@rmww117 The new Malibu will most likely have the turbo 2.5 or a new V-6 with AWD. Hell they keep talking about the G8 replacement coming in 2013 so we will have to wait.
@jp2kgt Yea IDK about AWD. That would require a completly new platform, and there's nothing wrong with the current one. And about the G8 replacement, I highly doubt it will be a rebodied Malibu, it will most likey be something else that will most likely use the CTS-V's or CTS's Sigma II platform
impala needs a serious reboot now, and then chevy needs to bring back the chevelle nameplat, for lower production numbers top of the heap performance oriented buyers that don't care to much about electronic gadgets and ammenities, then chevy is gonna be perfect, there are clearly on their way now, you can tell.
looks good but why do they have to corner the edges? Didn't they learn that around corners sell better, make it more smooth shaped edges with no stad out corners.

how bout making fuel efficient V6 and V8 engines??...I know it can be done. There is no originality in cars these days, they're all the same, everyone shares with everyone else whether its engines, styling, you name it. They're boring!
@joshpaul7 weird how the 5.3's had cylinder shut off and active torque on demand.why can't they do this for all the cars ... I think they are honestly trying to save money. now Camera has to compete with Mustang in Fuel wars with power... I guess the Genesis coupe will have it's V8 soon or a new bigger version of it I hope I'll just get that. and buy a used G8 GXP
The current Malibu, though fuel efficient (33 mpg), has an underpowered I-4 (166 hp). I think they should keep a V-6 option; however, with the '13 with 190 hp is a good thing. As mentioned, there is the e-Assist mild hybrid loke the '12 Regal and LaCrosse.
MT said its comparison is Camry and Accord, but their body styles are dated. The Malibu redo will compete pretty well with the Ford Fusion and the Hyundai Sonata.
@Silbot92 its call marketing bro. this way, they can charge more for the 2013 model, and still sell the older models 2011, 2012...(I havent even heard of a 2012 malibu)...people will not be hesistant to buy it since they will think hey its still new. America only does this, why, idk!
I think GM may be on the wrong track with only 4 cylinder engines. Perhaps a V6 option and let the market dictate the direction. Limiting engines is limiting buyers. With $5/gallon gas, I'm sure GM marketing thinks this is a sure fire move; but I don't think the politicians are going to let the anger build too long. When $5/gallon goes away, the lack of a V6 will hurt this car.
ok i think they fucked up on this car! In the teaser it looked Incredible But THIS IS JUST UGLY!! and u say the chrysler 300 is ugly ////THIS IS A FAIL!
Looks nice. I hope it can live up to its hype and truly be a competitor against Toyota and Honda. And the interior looks nicely done compared to mid-2000 Malibu.
@Jacy6969FU the politics of our car manufacturing goes deep...deeper than the rabbit hole. I'll just say,we're gonna save our economy(jobs in the automobile manufacturing) before we think about saving theirs(euro n jap)
@EasternGateGuardian Well ur ignorant ass doesnt even know that this doesnt compete with the Honda Accord coupe, but the Honda Accord Sedan lol!!! Oh yeah does Honda have technology like MyLink no it doesnt anything that advanced !!
lolz at you fool...go get your chevy for all I care. When that korean electronic component crap fails on you, remember this, you were that dumb you bought the shitty thing!!!
lolz at you fool...go get your chevy for all I care. When that korean electronic component crap fails on you, remember this, you were that dumb you bought the shitty thing!
@SahijApple93 if you want to go bankrupt on gas, maintenance, and just the overall higher price for getting less than a Japanese car, then you are so right.
@macbookpro57 You don't have to buy a chevy every 5 years, I have a 1994 Silverado, and a 1997 Malibu we have not had any problems with either of them and the silverado is getting ready to hit 300,000 miles. So just because it's American stop picking on it.
anything not electric only is just another boring car. why get 40m/g (which is hard as hell, impossible for american cars) when you can get 100 miles from a $3 charge! that's about 125 m/g in gas-talk with zero emissions and 1,000,000 m/g if you've got solar & or wind to charge that sucker!
i'm pushing 50 years old and i'm SICK as HELL of gas powered cars. H2's, Jeeps and 13 m/g bugatti veyrons can suck my crotch... and american cars can eat a crap-covered hotdog. usa cars suck dog anus
@rtardbox Why are you emphasizing on SUVs and a supercar? H2's have been out of production for years, Jeeps are for people who tow, haul, and go offroad and carry passengers. There has been amazing technologies on improving the gas powered engine and proves that it can still be worked on. Why you extremely biased against American vehicles?
it should not be a surprise, seeing how they're direct relatives from the same company.
what I am really disappointed about is the rear lights, the predecessor had non-impressive rear lights along with a flat ass. this one is not impressive either...
so much for making it a "real competitor" and to think that Chevy really changed its formula.
They just removed the V6 option and added an ecoboost emblem. They are learning well from their japanese competition (on how to rip people off with flashy gimmicks lol)
I like how people are bashing a car that they have only viewed in a video. the interior isn't really shown, but inside line shows and talks more about the interior praising it for what it is. View it and feel it in real life, then make up your minds
The fact that they said people are only buying four cylinder models is proof that people dont want to fork over the extra money for a V6 higher end model because this car just isn't worth it, and that definitely shows in the design and execution. Sloppy, bland and otherwise completely meaningless automobile.
@nebulabob mustangs an malibus are not in the same segment, thats like comparing a ranger to an f150. if they were selling many v6 malibus do you think they would stop selling them just on a hunch that they wouldn't sell well after 2012?
@nebulabob hate to say it but i agree im a dodge and chevy guy, but the ecoboost, and thaty new 305hp mustang v6, they are really steppin the game up and its like dodeg and chevy are doin the same shit they have been doin since like 05
@nebulabob in your opinion, camaro out sold mustang what 2 years in a row now, G.M trucks beat fords hands down, and G.M has recently taken over the top sales car company from toyota.
You might want to do a fact check before you say something
"Ford retained bragging rights in full-sized pickups, with the F-Series line extending its truck sales leadership for a 34th consecutive year. Ford sold 528,349 F-Series, a 28 percent gain, making it the top-selling vehicle of any kind in the U.S."
"Ford was the best-selling auto brand in the U.S. in 2010 Ford sold 1.76 million Ford- brand vehicles last year, while GM sold 1.57 million."
@Slayer553826 search, g.m tops sales. about the trucks, the most popular isnt always the best, ford sells more trucks cause they are cheaper. as far as towing and payload hauling G.M wins. you can look up videos of tests done on the trucks here on youtube. plus i am a mechanic of 20 years and would not own a ford based on my experience.
@rtardbox American cars aren't crap. They have GREATLY improved in terms of quality, performance, value, and styling than any automaker outside of NA within recent years and have segment changing vehicles. I think Japanese automakers are starting to move backwards.
@undeadkillers oh sure! not that obama owns 'em the nationalist social party of automobile comrads are making real quality stuff! total advanced, segment changing stuff compared to japan's nissan leaf! oh, of course you'er soooo right!
ya know, the leaf? the ONLY electric car worth anything? and don't shove tesla in my face, that company is just a crazy expensive, 1 speed lotus. leave it up to america to eff up the tranny on that thing.
@undeadkillers not true. washington, oregon, cali and arizona for now, but by next year EVERYWHERE. travel 100 miles on $3.00 of electricity. how much gas can you buy for $3 and how far will that get you? 20 miles in one of these american crap-bastards? and where is motortrend's car of the year the mighty volt???
what a joke. and believe me, after the leaf europe and korea will come in with awesome electrics too. the future is electrics. volt dropped the ball... typical american bs!
@rtardbox The Leafs range depends on the user. You'll have to been one of those hypermilers, you need everything to be right and yet most people driving the Leaf will not get close to 100 miles. Why wait hours of recharging when with a gas or diesel powered vehicle can easily be refueled in a matter of minutes and get more range? The Leaf is targeted more towards singles, i hardly doubt families would like the small interior. How about people who tow/haul items?
@undeadkillers the leaf can be fitted with a battery for the truck that will increase range by 50 miles.
average couple have 2.4 kids in their lifetimes... big-families are done
the leaf will be appropriate for 90% of society
i drive less than 100 miles per day and can plug in 220v to my leaf and charge in 5 hour to full
leaf is the beginning, mini-vans and much more are coming to elec only. we will always need gas powered for heavy hauling, but 90% will be HISTORY - no more foreign oil!!!
@undeadkillers untrue! oh, come ON! electric cars take solor trickle, 110v, 220v and the new combined fast-charge 220v. 4 types of charging, NONE in which the power-grid needs to be updated. charge your leaf in 16 hours to 100 miles on a 110v 15amp outlet! dude! i've got like 2 of those in my bathroom! or, charge it 220v in 5 hours from your dryer or water-heater type fuse. got a gas waterheater or dryer? use the existing outlet and don't even worry! fast-charge gas-stations are EASY!
@rtardbox You have no idea what you are talking about. The Leaf fails because the range is often shorter than what is advertised and is quite often stranding their owners. The Leaf is nothing more than a large golf cart!
@rtardbox wow, that's what you have? it's people like you that ruin shit with sensless comments based on no facts at all. and your from the US which makes it even worse. your a piece of shit and no im not going to change my spelling for you.
Looks like a solid car to me. It'll do well enough to make Chevy some money. All te bashing is silly. Have you guys not noticed just how mediocre the Camry and Accord are becoming - while you still praise them?
@Solidus106 I have a 2000 Malibu same damn problem with the PASSLOCK, it aparently happens when the Module needs a reflash, its depends on where you get it done, prices vary. I turns off the injectors so it will stop it from starting, even though the car wants to start, saying that it doesnt know the key for the car, so basically if you have a new key it will happen. It will know it sooner than later and will stop. Usually yes a BCM reflash is the solution 50-100 dollars CAD for it
@megs905 Yeah I looked up so many solutions including cutting a yellow wire and all sorts of stuff never heard of the reflash though.... My mom currently has the vehicle, I will tell her about it.... Thank u
@datpimpinboy i agree.......come on its 2011 here people!!! we dont wan't some boaring interior with 'tubing' and 'contrast stiching'......how about 'soft ambient lighting' or a 'futureistic feel' or just an interior just tuching that of the jaguar C-X75 not completly mimicking it but just tuching on it. oh i dont know, mabie i'm just a crazy dreamer, waiting for the day when carmakers will move forward instead of being stuck in the past.
facking commercial..

anything not electric only is just another boring car. why get 40m/g (which is hard as hell, impossible for american cars) when you can get 100 miles from a $3 charge! that's about 125 m/g in gas-talk with zero emissions and 1,000,000 m/g if you've got solar & or wind to charge that sucker!
i'm pushing 50 years old and i'm SICK as HELL of gas powered cars. H2's, Jeeps and 13 m/g bugatti veyrons can suck my crotch... and american cars can eat a crap-covered hotdog. usa cars suck dog anus
rtardbox 10 months ago
@rtardbox Why are you emphasizing on SUVs and a supercar? H2's have been out of production for years, Jeeps are for people who tow, haul, and go offroad and carry passengers. There has been amazing technologies on improving the gas powered engine and proves that it can still be worked on. Why you extremely biased against American vehicles?
undeadkillers 10 months ago
@undeadkillers
1) american vehicles are the lowest quality vehicles out there
2) american car co. have bloated retirement and entitlement programs
3) the nationalization of american cars is offensive to me as a capitalist
4) great cars like the EV1 were KILLED by american car companies in secrecy in order stay in bed with opec.
the ONLY decent car america has built in YEARS was killed by american corruption.
electric cars CAN haul, to and go off-road. check out the tesla S! dude, wake up

Let me guess. They simply rebadged Opel Insignia and named it Malibu?
Shevabestfan 10 months ago
@Shevabestfan
it should not be a surprise, seeing how they're direct relatives from the same company.
what I am really disappointed about is the rear lights, the predecessor had non-impressive rear lights along with a flat ass. this one is not impressive either...
so much for making it a "real competitor" and to think that Chevy really changed its formula.
GundamAngelicDevil 10 months ago
Or a 'Regaro' perhaps? ...Lol
MortalRon08 10 months ago
OMG, the have ruined the Malibu, why only 4 stupid weak ass clyn.
I want a V6 = more power
Some people don't give a damn about the gas prices and want a mid sized Malibu with a decent HP Power
xMedgeekx 10 months ago
@xMedgeekx Let's pray for a Malibu SS to come along.

rojm 10 months ago
I like how people are bashing a car that they have only viewed in a video. the interior isn't really shown, but inside line shows and talks more about the interior praising it for what it is. View it and feel it in real life, then make up your minds

am i really the only one who likes the redesign?
camaroman101 10 months ago 2
@camaroman101 No, I think its great. Lookd way better than a freaking camry or fusion, and especially that interior.
presidentbren 10 months ago
only a 2 liter smdh
shadowght 10 months ago
The fact that they said people are only buying four cylinder models is proof that people dont want to fork over the extra money for a V6 higher end model because this car just isn't worth it, and that definitely shows in the design and execution. Sloppy, bland and otherwise completely meaningless automobile.
Pezdetz666 10 months ago
I am afraid that GM is wrong about the power thing, look at how many Mustangs are on the road.
Ford is making way better cars these days than GM..
The new Focus? Now there is a good car.
nebulabob 10 months ago 14
@nebulabob mustangs an malibus are not in the same segment, thats like comparing a ranger to an f150. if they were selling many v6 malibus do you think they would stop selling them just on a hunch that they wouldn't sell well after 2012?
camaroman101 10 months ago
@nebulabob thats the goddamn truth right there. Ford has steeped their game WAY up and Chevy and the other Americans are struggling to catch up
Nequetrefi11 10 months ago
@nebulabob hate to say it but i agree im a dodge and chevy guy, but the ecoboost, and thaty new 305hp mustang v6, they are really steppin the game up and its like dodeg and chevy are doin the same shit they have been doin since like 05
colt45pistolpete 10 months ago
@nebulabob in your opinion, camaro out sold mustang what 2 years in a row now, G.M trucks beat fords hands down, and G.M has recently taken over the top sales car company from toyota.
campasini 10 months ago
@campasini
Slayer553826 10 months ago
@Slayer553826 search, g.m tops sales. about the trucks, the most popular isnt always the best, ford sells more trucks cause they are cheaper. as far as towing and payload hauling G.M wins. you can look up videos of tests done on the trucks here on youtube. plus i am a mechanic of 20 years and would not own a ford based on my experience.

rtardbox 10 months ago
@rtardbox American cars aren't crap. They have GREATLY improved in terms of quality, performance, value, and styling than any automaker outside of NA within recent years and have segment changing vehicles. I think Japanese automakers are starting to move backwards.
undeadkillers 10 months ago
@undeadkillers oh sure! not that obama owns 'em the nationalist social party of automobile comrads are making real quality stuff! total advanced, segment changing stuff compared to japan's nissan leaf! oh, of course you'er soooo right!
ya know, the leaf? the ONLY electric car worth anything? and don't shove tesla in my face, that company is just a crazy expensive, 1 speed lotus. leave it up to america to eff up the tranny on that thing.
american cars = poop on a stick (volt)
leaf = win
rtardbox 10 months ago
@rtardbox Too bad the Nissan Leaf is only targetted to a few customers.
undeadkillers 10 months ago
@undeadkillers not true. washington, oregon, cali and arizona for now, but by next year EVERYWHERE. travel 100 miles on $3.00 of electricity. how much gas can you buy for $3 and how far will that get you? 20 miles in one of these american crap-bastards? and where is motortrend's car of the year the mighty volt???
what a joke. and believe me, after the leaf europe and korea will come in with awesome electrics too. the future is electrics. volt dropped the ball... typical american bs!
rtardbox 10 months ago
@rtardbox The Leafs range depends on the user. You'll have to been one of those hypermilers, you need everything to be right and yet most people driving the Leaf will not get close to 100 miles. Why wait hours of recharging when with a gas or diesel powered vehicle can easily be refueled in a matter of minutes and get more range? The Leaf is targeted more towards singles, i hardly doubt families would like the small interior. How about people who tow/haul items?
undeadkillers 10 months ago
@undeadkillers the leaf can be fitted with a battery for the truck that will increase range by 50 miles.
average couple have 2.4 kids in their lifetimes... big-families are done
the leaf will be appropriate for 90% of society
i drive less than 100 miles per day and can plug in 220v to my leaf and charge in 5 hour to full
leaf is the beginning, mini-vans and much more are coming to elec only. we will always need gas powered for heavy hauling, but 90% will be HISTORY - no more foreign oil!!!
rtardbox 10 months ago
@rtardbox That won't be happening in a few decades though. Changing the electric grid to accept more loads from millions of EVs getting charged.
Am not denying it though, it just will not take place soon as the government thinks.
undeadkillers 10 months ago
@undeadkillers untrue! oh, come ON! electric cars take solor trickle, 110v, 220v and the new combined fast-charge 220v. 4 types of charging, NONE in which the power-grid needs to be updated. charge your leaf in 16 hours to 100 miles on a 110v 15amp outlet! dude! i've got like 2 of those in my bathroom! or, charge it 220v in 5 hours from your dryer or water-heater type fuse. got a gas waterheater or dryer? use the existing outlet and don't even worry! fast-charge gas-stations are EASY!
rtardbox 10 months ago
@rtardbox You have no idea what you are talking about. The Leaf fails because the range is often shorter than what is advertised and is quite often stranding their owners. The Leaf is nothing more than a large golf cart!
shoelover10 10 months ago
@rtardbox wow, that's what you have? it's people like you that ruin shit with sensless comments based on no facts at all. and your from the US which makes it even worse. your a piece of shit and no im not going to change my spelling for you.
barsy07 10 months ago
They need to come out with another Impala!!! Been like 6 years!!!!

Looks like a solid car to me. It'll do well enough to make Chevy some money. All te bashing is silly. Have you guys not noticed just how mediocre the Camry and Accord are becoming - while you still praise them?

boboblocks 10 months ago
Had an 02 Malibu..I wonder if they ever fixed that theft starting problem
Solidus106 10 months ago
@Solidus106 I have a 2000 Malibu same damn problem with the PASSLOCK, it aparently happens when the Module needs a reflash, its depends on where you get it done, prices vary. I turns off the injectors so it will stop it from starting, even though the car wants to start, saying that it doesnt know the key for the car, so basically if you have a new key it will happen. It will know it sooner than later and will stop. Usually yes a BCM reflash is the solution 50-100 dollars CAD for it
megs905 10 months ago
@megs905 Yeah I looked up so many solutions including cutting a yellow wire and all sorts of stuff never heard of the reflash though.... My mom currently has the vehicle, I will tell her about it.... Thank u
