  • There's no one that could convince a smoker that cancer and death are the final result. No patch, no program, no suggestion or advice.

There is only their own will to live.

    STOP SMOKING.

  • @valmol02 well by your logic....if "cancer and death" is always the final result of smoking.....that means anyone who smokes is magically prevented from dieing any other way just because they smoke. So using that logic you can never die in the military, car accident, hit by a car, overdose on drugs, die in a flood because the Grim Reaper is waiting to take you from the results of smoking.

  • @inkey2 You're putting words in Valmol's mouth. Nothing was said about being immune to other causes of death. Simply that smoking leads to an early death FOR THAT REASON, unless something else takes you even earlier, like engaging in some other dangerous behaviour, for example. You're a smoker, aren't you?

  • @nakyer he was using flawed logic.......if he said smoking may shorten your life I could agree. But he insisted, at the exclusion of every other cause that smoking always leads to death from cancer

  • Crazy bitches

  • Bea Benaderet smoked 3-4 packs a day

  • @bedroombody so did Irene Ryan.

  • @mralmeister1

Was Ms. Ryan's stroke really smoking-related?

I know Bea Benaderet was a heavy smoker. I prefer June Foray over Bea though as the voices of Granny and Witch Hazel from Looney Tunes.

  • Winston tastes good like a cancer stick should!

  • @ncmountaingal1960 Oh dear all you new agers.

  • Irene Ryan was a heavy smoker, herself. Tsk, tsk.

  • @DaveWollenberg But she died of a tumor I think, I had nothing to do with smoking.

  • Bea Benadarate died of lung cancer.

  • Winston tastes BAD ...Like the one I just had .

    No fiter, No taste .... just a $ .30 WASTE !

  • i've noticed that alot of people i know health started to decline after they quit smoking. my grandfather quit in 77 and 2 years later his health began to decline and was in bad health until he died in 2008 at 74 . my grandfather quit when he was 43. he was in good health when he quit. my dad quit in 06 and his health started to decline faster then it was before he quit. my great grandfather started at 14 and never quit. died at 89. i'm never gonna quit.

  • The actress who played cousin Pearl, Bea Benaderet, died of lung cancer a few years after this commercial was made.

  • after 3 drags of a winston they say its the best ever and will never smoke anything else. i find that hard to beleive.

  • I am tastin' it Gran-ny.

  • STAR TREK CIG AD:

KIRK: Why Look Spock we just beamed up some delicious LUCKY STRIKES

    SPOCK: Lucky Strikes?

KIRK: (lighting up) Yes, they have that Bold Otherworldly flavor.

SPOCK: It seems Illogical to inhale burning substances Captain.

KIRK: But these are Lucky Strikes.

SPOCK: The only Luck i can see is that anyone survives this odd ritual.

KIRK: But they pay for our 5 year mission.

SPOCK: Now THAT makes it Logical!

  • When Granny holds the cigarette to the phone...... is that what smokers do after phone sex?

  • For those who want to die of cancer, you don't. I have cancer. Some days I scream all day long. It's not smoking induced, but it HURTS. I have never felt pain like this before.

Personally, I think all or most of the cancer in the USA is caused from the food and additives fed to animals that are later killed for human consumption. That's where the FDA needs to step in and investigate.

  • @gccn I'm sorry for you pain. You might try a pain doctor. Generally they are anesthesiologists.

  • @gccn Very true. The government harps on cigarettes all the time, but only about 20% of the population smokes. BUT---100% of the population EATS, and they need to focus on our foods and water supplies to check for cancer causing agents. I am sorry you have such pain. Can't anyone help you? It is ok to take narcotics if you need them. You are in pain and your doctor needs to make you more comfortable.

  • like a cigarette had ought'ta LOL CLASSIC

  • like a cigarette had ought-ta

  • 4 people don't like "Fancy store-bought COOKIES!"

  • FWIW, Cousin Pearl died of lung cancer. Did the Winstons have anything to do with it?

  • weeeee doggies!

  • Oh, everyone just shut the f*** up. Damn you are all so boring and full of yourselves.

  • Smokers today are hillbillies!

  • Oh yeah smoking Winstons is so fucking cool. That's what my mom thought until they killed her of cancer

  • @fasteddie847 honestly....I don't think smoking is any more dangerous than riding a motorcycle or joining the military

  • @inkey2 The difference is that riding a motorcycle or joining the military is not addictive. Smoking is the most addictive drug over cocaine and heroin. Smoking is oh so cool when you're young but when you get older somehow it isn't cool but people continue to smoke. Why? I've never met a adult smoker who thinks it's cool to smoke. Tobacco companies know this and that's why 95% of all smokers start before age 18 and 98% of all smokers start before they're 21

  • @fasteddie847 i understand about the addictive part....I am talking about the risk factor. I have known about 5 people in my life that rode motorcycles and they all sold them after about a year because they were nearly killed on them. You ride a motorcycle and can be killed your first day on a bike. Very vew people have died from their first cigarette or even their 100th. I would far prefer to die 40 years later from smoking than instantly to a bike accident

  • @inkey2 I guess I don't understand. If you don't know how to ride a bike then you shouldn't be riding. Trust me you do not want to die from smoking. My mom died of cancer from smoking and trust me that's now way to go out. The last year she was basically in her hospital bed puking and moaning from the pain. It's not worth it.

  • @fasteddie847 all the people I knew that were almost killed on a motorcycle was caused entirely by drivers of cars not obeying the rules of the road. The problem is.... on a bike there is zero protection, the visual footprint is small and your first accident can be your last. I knew a co-worker in the auto parts business that was seriously injured. When the police asked the driver of the car (that hit him) why she did not stop she replied "because it was only a motorcycle"

  • @inkey2 Ok that's fine then don't ride a motorcycle then but trying to compare it to smoking is stupid. Nicotine is the most addictive drug, over cocaine and heroin. Kids smoke cause they think it's cool, and once kids realize smoking ain't cool no more they're hooked and can't stop. I've never met one adult smoker who thinks smoking is cool. 95% of all smokers start before age 18 and 98% of all smokers start before age 21. Once kids decide smoking isn't cool then we won't have a problem

  • @fasteddie847 I'm sure she lived a pleasant life though.

  • Granny didn't inhale the smoke. Cousin Pearl did inhale.

  • Smoking killed my father, his favorites was WINSTON. He suffocated to death for months. Smoking killed my friend. Her lung cancer spread to her brain and she lost her mind before she went. Smoking killed my friend. He got cancer of the throat and puked up blood for days before he died. At least he quit smoking before he died, but only because he was fed through a stomach tube...

  • to each their own, some people never touch tobacco and die of a heart attack in their late 30s early 40s

  • @mtsportbabe87 That's probably because they ate animal products! The number one cause of death in the U.S. is heart disease. Cholesterol only comes from meat or dairy! Not to mention a lot of fat! Cigarettes cause constriction in blood vessels, but meat and dairy seem to be more of a contributor to heart disease.

  • Oh wow...I never knew they did cigarette ads! I remember the old Winston cigarette jingle. That's why if anything, I'm surprised that Granny didn't say the ending like it was supposed to be said when Pearl said "Winston tastes good..." and granny should have said "Like a cigarette should." Not like a cigarette oughta! LOL!

  • Everything in moderation.....

  • There you have it; smoking is GOOD for you! It is shameful to pick on tobacco companies. Smoking is a legal product, and a safe one as well-- even President Obama knows that, and so did Bill Clinton {who used cigars in more ways than one}. It is a fact that the oldest living people all smoked. Check it out for yourself. Didn't George Burns smoke? Maybe if he didn't, he might have lived to be 200. That's what some want you to believe. Kick back, light up, and don't worry-- be happy.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano my father lived to be 83 years old...never smoked........his sister lived to be 83 as well and smoked like furnace since she was a teen......go figure

  • @inkey2 Now, the long-legged mack daddy's wife is going to make hamburgers worse than cigarettes! If cigarettes are so bad for you, why does Obama smoke them??? The oldest people in the world all smoked. Japanese women live to be over 100 and they smoke cigarettes. Yes, smoking causes cancer & heart disease, but I don't want the government regulating my life. My father, by the way, lived to be almost 100 and smoked for over 20 years @ 2-3 packs a day!

  • @unclejuniorsoprano in theory...if socialized medicine goes into effect in the USA it is not too extreme to think that the govt might deny care or raise premiums on fat people, smokers, tobacco chewers, people with dangerous professions etc. After all if they are footing the bill they could argue that they have the right to require (demand) that people comply in order to keep costs down

  • @inkey2 I have news for you. We already have socialism including socialized medicine {Medicare, Medical, etc.}. The only problem is that we're not getting what we're paying for.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano we are note even close to european style socialized medicine

  • @inkey2 She'd have likely lived longer if she hadn't smoked. Smoking's dirty and poison and earlier death.

  • @nakyer well, based on your theory....my father should have lived longer because he "didn't smoke" His father, my grandfather (who I never knew) died at 27. The thing is.....there are many other things that can kill you that are going on at the same time while one is living. Smoking is just one of many things that can make you come to your enevitable demise....for example sun exposure, being in the military, living in a large city, being over weight, driving a motorcycle......etc

  • @inkey2 What a logical reply....NOT. It's no theory, it's proven fact. Your father's life would have been cut shorter if he'd been a smoker, and your aunt would have lived longer if she hadn't. Don't "blow smoke" in your effort to cloud the issue. Smoking kills and you're blindly supporting something everyone in their right mind knows not to do.

  • @nakyer how can you possibly know that my dad lived longer and his sister lived a shorter life "if they both died at 83 years old????

  • @nakyer there is no way in hell that you can say every smokers life is cut shorter by smoking when there is thousands of other ways you could die first.....people who say that are excluding every other way of death

  • @inkey2 You have a point, but your argument is fallacious. You can't just say "oh well smoking is okay because there are many other things that may kill me before a cigarette does." If you're going to slippery-slope your way through the argument, you might as well just be a suicide advocate and be done with it.

  • @gpburr I never said it was ok.......just like ill never say hang gliding or working on high construction is OK. I am just disputing others who insist that smoking will kill you at the exclusion of all other things

  • Cousin Pearl was Betty Rubble

  • Really?

  • Yes she was the first Betty

  • haha i know, but i love it lol

  • Bea Benederet was a FIVE PACK A DAY smoker! That's what killed her.

  • so this is why my mother coughed and choked herself every morning for 30 years

    Thanks gran

  • Bea Benaderet should've been 'Ethal Mertz' to Lucille Ball before Vivian Vance had the part in 'I Love Lucy'.

  • This commercial really went wrong at about the :16 mark...lmao

  • What I appreciate about this commercial is the absence of that annoying laugh track.

  • iv smoked pot just about every day for the past 10 years, id take a joint then a cig any day!

  • Does anyone else like to get baked and watch Beverly Hillbillies?

  • I wanna smoke some weed, lol

  • Bea Benaderet who played cousin Pearl, Kate Bradley and Betty Rubble, died of lung cancer.

  • Bea Benaderet worked for the Warner Bros. animation studio back in the 40's and 50's also. I don't know if Bea was a smoker, though. She was 61 or 62 years old when she died in 1968,during the Petticoat Junction era.

  • I might add that Bea died of lung cancer....no fun or pun intended.

  • overt product placement

  • Most companies who sponsored television programs back then had advertisements that featured the characters consuming their product. It was standard practice and in a way, I kinda miss it.

  • I agree. I watch "Grey's Anatomy" and I don't know what name brand alcohol any of the characters drink when they go in that bar. It ain't right.

  • ah, the good old daze.

  • I LOVE THIS!!!

  • Granny should have warned pearl she would die from cancer in 1968!

  • Okay, here's the poop on smoking: if cigarettes are really that bad for you (and they are if you smoke too much), then they should be removed from the market! Pot is safer, but illegal in most places.

  • I agree, why don;t the legalize mariuana, charge taxes on it, and help pay off this national dept?

  • There was a guy who wrote to Jack Bably' s colum in the Dailey Hearald he had a good idea to taxk the heck out mariana.

  • Most people that smoke that much marijuana don't have jobs though. They just sit around smoking pot and then come to the government and ask for free pot cause they are addicted.

  • true.

  • That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. First of all, if they don't have a job, how do they have money to buy pot? Second, the government does not give away "free pot". There's only one individual left alive on the old government experimental program for medical marijuana. Anyway, this clip is AWESOME! It must be from very early in the series before Pearl came to stay with Jed.

  • It seems that you have no idea what your talking about, marijuana do not get you addicted.. its the feeling that you miss, but marijuana in it self does not get you hooked at all. Marijuana is far healthier than cigarettes :))), i smoke pot like 0 to 3 times a month with my friends and when im drunk lol :d

  • dream on. Winston's fry your lungs, pot fries your brain.

  • My father seems to think it they were not taken off the market because would put people out of work. I am not sure it that is true though.

  • SWEET GOD!! I never knew this part of the show existed!!

Please note: As Pearl smokes, she's parked in front of a powder keg!

  • What a gem! Thanks!

  • I wish someone could find some of the Old Golds ads featuring Spike Jones who was dying from cancer. Supposedly he had to be pumped up with oxygen before the commerical.

  • didn't the actress in this cigarette ad who played pearl die of lung cancer just a few years later when she was starring in 'petticoat junction'?

  • Bea Benederet did die of lung cancer in 1968.

  • Yes, sad to say, she did.

  • yes, sadly, she did.

  • That was just plain bizarre...

  • I just can't see Granny smoking! I would have thought she would think it's a nasty habit!

  • If I'm not mistaken, that actress had a stroke and died while she was in "Pippin" on Broadway.

  • Max Baer said on "The Beverly Hillbillies E True Hollywood Story" that Reenie (Irene Ryan who played Granny) smoked "like a chimney"

  • I think it was Irene Ryan that died from a stroke.

  • Irene Ryan did die from a stroke and she was a heavy smoker.

  • I guess thr "box' wasn't out yet!...Lol

  • Yes the box was out then.

I saw a add from 1966 and that showed

both the soft pack and the box.
