There is no country music now. To play and sing country music requires talent, hence it is no more. Only hunks and bimbos are all you see, all looking the same all sounding the same. No characters: Merle Haggard, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Tammy Wynette, Tanya Tucker, Emmy Lou, Dolly, If you have internet radio you can tune in to country music, real country.
I can't tell you how much I loath today's "country" music! Why even call it country, why not call it light rock? Either way won't this crap sell? I was flipping throught the channels recently and stopped on CMT, where there was some show that had "artists" on stage singing Edgar Winter Group's "Free Ride" and totally rockin' out. I say country music died in '81 with the advent of Alabama. Anyone else have a different year?
@poohski2012 You're right even the sattelite stations all play the same old top forty crap. I heard this playing in Cabelas Hunting store in Maine and thought " Jesus I miss this music" they are trying to shove garbage like rascal fags and brad parsley on us. Where is the next Merle Haggard or Johnny Cash? Most of the guys on the Opry now have less balls than Minnie Pearl. Not you Trace Adkins, I don't want him hunting me down and kicking my ass.
@joeytwosubs I agree! I like some new country music, but most of it is more rock than anything. I hate that people say certain songs are country, when you can't even hear a steel guitar or fiddle in the mix. I wanna hear at least an acoustic if I'm gonna listen to country music. I hate that even country stations that claim to have the "most variety" don't really play any of the old stuff. The country station I listen to most, recently got rid of it's Saturday oldies show... Very upsetting...

God bless Don and Buck. Got to see Buck at the Crystal Palace in '01 for $6.50. What an amazing deal. I'll never forget it. I was so lucky to be in Bakersfield that Saturday night.. He was great too. He did "Tiger By The Tail" and nailed Don's Solo. Also played "Fast As You" which he called aout the band as "That Dwight song". I'll alway feel lucky I was there that night. Makes me want to pick up one of my Tele's just thinking about it.
Great admirers of great music, the both of em. The Beatles did start out as the quarry men which was a skiffle band. Anywho, you can't have todays stuff without yesterday's and theres always a yesterday from which to draw upon.
@rubbersole. You really think the Beatles' music is "three chords music?" If you're a player (that comment makes me think you're not), sit down with those records (even the early ones), and you'll find out how wrong you are. Very few of the Beatles' tunes can be reduced to three chords. For that matter, there was plenty of Buck that went beyond that, too. This tune is a 3 chord one, though.
As for those guitar licks, they are known as Don Rich licks. The Beatles did cop them sometimes.
Don Rich was a fellow Washingtonian, and so I guess that he pretty much started my state's musical dominance, long before Heart, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Audioslave, and so on came about. Buck was also an awesome singer.
G'day, It's well known, Buck and Rich admired The Beatles ans vice versa. Paul McCartney himself once said B.O. was one of his greatest inspirations. They both had eachothers newest albums. So, who 'stole' whose, never will be said. Both music is in fact very basic: -three cords music-, Buck's music kept his music always strickly Country, never went 'Pop' . So, it's more the fact, they liked eachother as they copied.
We saw Buck Owens in Las Vegas many, many years ago. Later that week, Don Rich drove up beside us in a little grey VW Bug. (: Such wonderful harmony. And such wonderful memories,
Buck, it's been almost five years since you left us, and the world's just not the same without you. RIP to you and to Don. Damn, I miss your presence.

What great talent. And you can tell they had a great time & loved what they were doing. It wasn't work, it was all play. We should all have jobs we love this much ! Long live Buck & Don.
I have encountered several guitar players in the past who wanted nothing to do with my telecaster. They had, well just bigger fingers than me and the puny narrow neck on the tele drove them nuts. Oh they hated it. But Don didn't seen to mind. His fingers were a bit fat but very long. Just a technical observation there. I still miss him. Sure had an influence on me from so long ago.
Wow, love to see a Don Rich solo live. I don't think Buck ever recovered fully from his loss. He made those 2 Warner Bros records that were pretty good, but this is magic.

If anyone is interested, a new Buck Owens biography has been released. It paints an accurate picture of Buck according to those who were closest to him and to put it plainly, it ain't pretty, but it's the truth. It's called "Buck Owens: The Biography" by Eileen Sisk. There hasn't been a lot of hype about it but I figured a lot of us Buck fans would wanna know.
To Nashville (NY & L.A.) Corporate Asshats, listen up: California is an important part of country. So is Texas. I know all you want is money... but the people want quality songs and playing too. This is what the people respond to. You're just scared because when music is too good it funnels all the money into one place. You "executives" prefer mediocre music as a better business model... more money, spread around. You're killing us with crap. I'm glad record companies are dying.
Mister Don Rich on Telecaster and awesome harmonies. Today these guys would be known as Owens and Rich, much as we say "Brooks and Dunn".. Please go to Wikipedia and read about Mister Don RIch - A country music legend.
No one can or will ever equal these performances, but it is still possible to play real country music... I hope. I still play it every night. I hope that someday someone will recognize us and do this much needed genre justice.
Guys, I'm thinking this is Pre-1964. They got Gold Sparkle Teles in 1964. Here Don is still playing Buck's 1951 "No Caster". They got their silver sparkle Teles in 1967.
My Dad and Buck had a radio and television show in Tacoma Washington for a while until Buck decided to move to Bakersville California. Dad stayed behind here in Seattle and we helped form the Folklife festival with music from all over the world Dad and Buck remained friends.
@scottnsuzs That's funny!! I was just thinking the same thing, then I scrolled down to the comments & found someone else caught themself smiling too!!
Great song but notice Don is kiddingly shooting everyone "The bird" at 0:43. I'm a musician and know that this chord can be made by not "shooting the bird" so obviously. Really kind of funny...I love Buck!
LOL. Notice how they are looking around and smiling. Buck at first keeps looking up when he's sings 'the sun is going to shine'. It's obvious someone off camera is messing with them.
I remember this song from when i was a little girl my dad used to call my mom LOVES and one day my mom never came back from her condition and she was admitted into a mental hospital when i was 4 she doesnt know who we are but my dad would listen to this song with sadness like it was written just for him - and that maybe his loves would come back but she never did =( thanks to buck owens for recording this song!!! It gave us enough hope to get through the hard times.
Help!!!! we want country music back from New York and its bleach blonde marketing projects... HARMONY and ACTUAL GUITAR PLAYING IS MISSED.. Where's Wayne Hayes and Travis??

this is the prototypical 'honky tonk' music that millions enjoyed in the 1960's, especially the boys and girls down south.

@tgmod This seems to be an emerging thing. I swear I was in a cryogenic lab until 1987 when people tell me I was born.

Mister Don Rich on Telecaster and awesome harmonies. Today these guys would be known as Owens and Rich, much as we say "Brooks and Dunn".. Please go to Wikipedia and read about Mister Don RIch - A country music legend.

Why does buck keep looking up. He looks a little messed up
georgejones93 1 year ago
@georgejones93 To me that's just his way of looking up to the sun that's gonna shine again......like he sings about.

I love this type of country music.....seems like the so called country of today sounds so.....commercial and mainstream.

My Dad and Buck had a radio and television show in Tacoma Washington for a while until Buck decided to move to Bakersville California. Dad stayed behind here in Seattle and we helped form the Folklife festival with music from all over the world Dad and Buck remained friends.

Great song but notice Don is kiddingly shooting everyone "The bird" at 0:43. I'm a musician and know that this chord can be made by not "shooting the bird" so obviously. Really kind of funny...I love Buck!
RHodge317 2 years ago
LOL. Notice how they are looking around and smiling. Buck at first keeps looking up when he's sings 'the sun is going to shine'. It's obvious someone off camera is messing with them.
fffreddie 1 year ago 2
Lots of guitar players do that, e.g. Clapton. I've noticed the same from Don Rich on some of the other videos. I'm sure it's nothing personal.

It gave us enough hope to get through the hard times.
