LOL. Get that on the Street... When you gettin lose and you want flavors to choose. lol. Didn't know skittles could be endorsing such activities... theres even graffedi in the commercial...haha xD
Just wondering, what age are you? Most of my family got did alright during the late 80's/early 90's, I wasn't born until 1992, so I wouldn't know first-hand, but I just get the feeling that it had this tacky, post-Reagan kind of thing going on. Although I have to admit, a lot of great sitcoms started then: Seinfeld, Roseanne, The Simpsons, Coach, Fresh Prince, Home Improvement, Married with Children, Murphy Brown and Frasier.
I'm 24. Hm, 5 months ago I must've been a lot more bitter- this commercial isn't as horrible as I made it out to be. But compare it with the Skittles commercials of today to see how far we've come. IMO the 80s had a dismal viewpoint, blatantly giving in to materialism and capitalism and treating people as if they were idiots. Of course, as a child I didn't detect this at all. And I agree, those sitcoms all remain great, even if they now take place in a strange alternate reality!
Music- better now. culture in general has gotten smarter
Movies- awful now, better all through 90s
TV- mainly what is miles better now are commercials. at least they're funny, instead of trying to stick a jingle in your head, or even portray their product in a good way.
Also, I hadn't realized that this commercial is most likely from the UK, and so are you, so... I think British culture is still kind of soulless.
i love skittles

I would have gone insane if I had been this age in that year. The 80s/early 90s were hell. No wonder they thought it was the end of the world.

Hmmm.... varied opinions on this one..
I for one think it's a cool ad - you would NOT have a jingle like it nowadays.

Okay, here's my opinion:
Music- better now. culture in general has gotten smarter
Movies- awful now, better all through 90s
TV- mainly what is miles better now are commercials. at least they're funny, instead of trying to stick a jingle in your head, or even portray their product in a good way.
