Thats how it sounds like when you have a cone filter, but he has compression surge. Your by pass vlave is blocked or the vac is dis from it.. That is bad for the turbo unless you running a aftermarket BOV.. I Had to get a new turbo cuz that hose was not on my CBV and i didnt hear the flutter.
Your all idiots.... anyone ever hear of compressor surge? I have a cone filter on my R and it doesn't make anywhere near this sound. Count on youtube children to give wrong information.
@JohnMcLeod1991 The noise that turbo is making is completly natural. Every turbo does it. The reason you don't hear it is because the stock air intake system does a very good job of keeping everything quiet. A K&N or similar sports intake doesn't keep the noise down because the cone filter is not in an enclosed box.
@Steebod to make a wastegate chatter u block off the wastegate on the turbo so the air gets pushed back through the turbines making the noise cause ur turbo to have less power in the next gear and wearing out the turbine
@JohnMcLeod1991 Why did the turbo in my Volvo S60 T5 do the exact same noise with no modding other than a different air intake then? I would hardly call that chatter, it's so quiet!

i'm guessing you are running the factory bypass valve but noticed this sound after you put on some sort of aftermarket intake. there's nothing wrong with your car. relax
Mine did this when i forgot to reconnect the bypass valve control line to the intake manifold after a gasket change. Sounded like a ricer owned subaru. I quickly fixed it :-)
that sound is not from the wastegate. it is either because you dont have a blow off valve or recirculating valve (any means to bleed off the boost when your throttle plate closes) causing the air to go backwards stalling the compressor. or you have one and it is not working properly :(

this has nothing to do with the wastegate. its called compressor surge. There is no such thing as "wastegate chatter" lol

@nwfklan That's right. This is compressor surge, or turbo flutter, whatever you like to call it.

I have a '97 V70 T5 and i changed the stock air filter for a K&N cone type. It makes exactly this noise and there's nothing wrong with it.

That's the air coming back out the compressor intake and can/will eventually kill the turbo

And thats has nothing to do with the wastegate.. If he had a wastegate problem he would get boost problems. To much boost or to little.

@turbochargedglory I have blanked off the factory bypass in order to cause the compressor stall, I know theres nothing wrong :)
