I saw the VH1 Metal Evolution on the TV the other day,the shock-rock episode. I heard a raw and raunchy version of whole lotta shakin with Little Richard and this was the one. Thanks for sharing :)
I return to this clip every once in while to get energy and to remember what life is and shoud be about. I get so much out of this I don't even know where to begin, and rarely do I manage not to burst in to powerful tears of joy somewhere along the line. If not sooner just around 4:20 into the clip.
@DisasterBastard ..... I couldn't agree more. Only stumbled on this by chance and I haven't stopped playing it. Doubt very much if I will ever get sick of listening to it.
This video, an amazing performance by the Little Richard, gets almost 80,000 views and some stupid puppet like Justin Bieber gets millions? Man, something's very wrong in the world.
@riotsquad66. It's a big thing to say 'the greatest concert ever filmed',but it's true -certainly I haven't seen anything better, and it's no small thanks to the Shirelles, Sounds Incorporated and the audience that it turned out so good. Little Richard had the best Rock n' Roll voice of them all and here he looks so young and vibrant. This is what it's like to be really alive!
@TheHamburgerDeern Don't talk so ridiculous!! It doesn't matter what colour you are, any one with singing talent has the ability to perform as good as this!
If you want to hear a fascinating interview with Little Richard checkout the film Hail Hail Rock and Roll. This is the autobiography of Chuck Berry. This film contains an excellent conversation between Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley about the early days of Rock and Roll.
are you tapping your foot yet? I was in a band for 27 years and if you wanted to get people to start dancing just play this in this style. Dam I miss playing music.
n 1956, DJ Alan Freed said that LRichard is the real solid rocker. Little Richard is explosive and charismatic. His ostrageous personality captured the music´s rebbelious spirit and his franticallly piano playing and raspy, shouted vocals defined its sound. Little Richard is the real king of rock and roll. All heavy metal band vocalists sing like Little Richard, in other words, at full volume. He was the symbol of rejection. Elvis was the symbol of conformity and served in the army.
since hearing Richard in my teens (I'm 45) I've found it difficult to understand why anyone else would be so presumptuous as to even attemp this (say, beatles frinstnce)
Rock N Roll is the BEST music in the whole wide world! Look at everybody just dancing and forgetting there troubles for that split moment of pleasure. People nowadays are always moody and depressed. Come on! We need the likes of people like Richard's, Presley, Cochran, Berry to lighten this world up again!
Saw him twice, At the paramount in New York in 1957 then again after his return from England at a road House in Seattle in Late 1964 the Greatest Live Show You ever saw in your life.
screw jerry lee lewis's version little richard's version is 999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The version of Jerry Lee is superb, with HIM exploding on the stage.
Richard's version is superior, HE MAKES THE AUDIENCE EXPLODE and he leads that explosion. That's because he is a son of a preacher. I think he learned with his father how to handle the audience. He acts like a preacher in most moments of this song. His last gesture at the end of the song, meaning "I gave you all", is great. I listen to this version over & over
The REAL KING of ROCK and ROLL + The most fantastic SOUNDS INCORPORATED. Doe's it get any better/ I dont think so! Somebody get me some bigger speakers.
Damn, I've came to realize that Little Richard was the pioneer of rock and roll, he had that raw emotion and delivery that no one else had during the 1950's and early 1960s.
What's funny is thats the same studio and tv show where Jerry Lee Lewis had the crowd going ape-shit crazy, worshipping him as he stood on the piano and sang this same song.
When ass shaking music made u more concerned about the soulfulness *not* the shakin ass! Pure soul in musical form designed to give u an eargasm 1st & foremost ;D Check & I believe, mate - Little Richard :)
Wow! What a voice! Such passion. You just don't hear that kind of raw, unpolished emotion anymore in these days of auto-tuning and slick studio effects. Also, this video has immense historic value: it is incontrovertible evidence that white males suffer from a tragic dancing deficiency (FYI I'm white LOL)!!! Maybe it's genetic. No doubt Elvis is The King. But let us never forget Little Richard. He is forever (and in his own words)... The QUEEN Of Rock N' Roll! Rock on, Your Majesty, rock on!

i disagree in a big way with how a college level music course would judge a "quality piece" I mentioned L.R. as being the best composer and was damn near laughed out of the room. always thought ABBA was the greatest rock group ever but Little Richard Rocks
he vocals blend in the with lyrics of the song the same way with ABBA when they sang
actually this was his peak performance in his career because he was not yet spoiled by his own
success like with ABBA...he was born in 1932 ahead of his time a freak of nature...
if Tina Turner & Little Richard ever born a child what a talent that would have been male or female

If there is a better Rock n Roll performance and audience participation than what occurs
was Little Richard sings "Whole Lot of Shakin Going On" please let me know.
I know that Jerry Lee Lewis got a similar reaction from his audience in a tour of
England about the same time, but I think Little Richard's performance is better -
near the end where he kneels down and then starts jumping up and down is better
than any Punk performance I ever saw.

What a great performance. I truly wish that I could have been there, it must have been absolutely electric. Those kids were so lucky.

I love the way the croud surge on to the dance floor as soon as Ricky opens his mouth,
The guitar solo part @ 2:30 when he takes his blazer off...... My God this is so Gangster, How the hell do i get this exact version on MP3?
I desperately need this in my car!
