Question: Ive been using soapnuts for a while now, I use quite alot but on my whites, they just dont get the stains out. On my white shirts I still have the dirt mark around the collar and sleeves. I still use soapnuts as Im sure they are healthy for your body, (the idea of the chemicals and bleach on my skin worries me) but im wondering if theres something extra I can do to make the white pristine?
I might have to give these nuts another go. There was a thorough consumer test done here on alternative detergent , and these nuts didn't do very well at all. When it came to difficult stains and skin oils left in the fibers, the performance were not any better than pure water (which does a fairly good job on it's own).
Yes Thank you for your review on soapberrys but as I understand it you can use 4 to 5 soapberry for one load and the same soapberrys can do 4 to 5 loads I get 10 soapberrys for one dollar a big savings for me. I not tried it yet but will soon.
Natasha, have you used the soap nuts for anything else? I have been wanting to try them for use as a shampoo, possibly body wash, and also possibly a face wash. Maybe you could let us know what you thought of using them for other things as well!
Thanks so much for this review. I really enjoyed it.
I've been using soap nuts for about 2 years now and love them. I will say that I reuse a bag of soap nuts about 5 or 6 times and do not notice any problems.
My husband works in a tire plant and his clothes get oily/greasy. I will say that we had to break down and buy regular detergent in order to get his clothes clean. The nuts just don't quite have the power to outmatch gritty grime.
Thanks for promoting this. I take my clothes to a local wash n' fold and I have to keep telling them to use less soap. Maybe I'll bring them some soapnuts to try.
oh and my "ah ha" moment was when the salesperson asked me "what did people use before the detergent we normally think of ever came into existence?" i may have to pick up a box
I'm soooo happy you reviewed this product! Someone @ my local healthfood store told me about them and I was considering them but was a little skeptical. I have a Gain detergent addiction but my niece has eczema and soo many allergies that this may be the product for her. Thanks and I hope you keep the review coming!!
yeah soap nuts are actually pretty easy to get a hold of. I've been using them for the past year and they work well..you don't need to add fabric softener to your clothing either..supposedly they can be reused up to 5times but need to be reused wtihin a 48hr period or can smell bad from moisture/mold.you only need 7-8 shells a load.
Ok... How do they work in reality? Was it so difficult to show before and after effect to your laundry?

You can actually use them up to five times if you are using cold water (which is what I use) and you only need 5 nuts per wash hot or cold.
