I HATE CHENGHOU PROJECT!!! this is the most FU**ED UP course in the game ... the only one i have to get gold on hardmode -.- then i would have every Cell in racecampaign on gold -.-
Wow, this game seems nostalgic, the HD version of Chenghou is like a ramped up version of the Pure version. It's really fun to compare the two while I watch this.
Wipeout is definitely not a rip off of F-Zero. F-Zero may have come first but they could of had the same idea of futuristic racing. In my opinion, Wipeout is better.
This is the game that sealed the deal in me getting a PS3 as opposed to another next gen system. Between the PS2 wipeouts, and Rez - old school party kids never die!
I love the Wipeout series but they've cranked the difficulty setting WAY too high on HD. I never normally use 'em but does anyone know of any cheat codes to unlock cars and stuff. I'm not a cheat by nature but this game is controller- snappingly hard to get thru. And i'm used to wipeout racing. It's just not fun.
Not even in phantom class wipeout is faster than F-Zero GX!8D...plus,snaking mode in F-Zero GX makes phantom class look like more a tortoise mode!lol XD
i have one complaint about this game (other than the fact that its an f-zero ripoff, and yes it is so dont reply to me saying its not): the tracks are too thin. ur bashing into walls constantly and theres not enough room for passing more than 1 or 2 players in the race, ull just hit a wall which will slow u down and put u back where u were
and... where's the problem? If the tracks are thin, than you need more skills. You can train your skills on this tracks. Its a challange, to race this tracks and it makes FUN!...
lol thats a real ps3 fanboy thing to say. ive noticed that everyone in here (the fanboys) is just pointing out the slight differences which are some gun thing and better graphics. who gives a shit if its not more exhilerating to play...and everyone is saying its better than f-zero gx when they prolly havent played either one. ive played f-zero gx a lot and it is obviously more fun than this, and it takes more skill too so dont tell me to learn how to play. these tracks are just too thin
1. is this game even out yet?... 2. have u played f-zero gx? btw, i counted 30 times that the main racer hit the walls and other racers. and i noticed that his missiles seemed to do almost nothing. i think it slowed them down a tiny bit but not enough for him to pass them. also it looked like the big jumps actually hurt when u land, and it sure would suck if someone rammed into u while u went off them or if u are driving on the parts with no edges. so many flaws, but the game does LOOK good
2) I haven't played an F-Zero game since the first one came out on the SNES in 1990. Not "like the 80s," as you so eloquently put it.
However, I haven't said anything BAD about F-Zero. Had I purchased an N64 or GC later on, I certainly would have bought F-Zero for those consoles, because I liked it.
You on the other hand, who just admitted you've never played Wipeout HD, and base your opinion on not only your own percived skill level of a faceless player playing what's still a TEST version of the game, but also on a bad experience YOU had playing a PREVIOUS incarnation of the game, are spouting off about how much better F-Zero is than Wipeout.
Basically, you're sitting here talking about a game that you HAVEN'T PLAYED YET as if you actually took the time to get used to it, which you didn't. That's why I said "learn to play." Because you obviously never did. Instead, you just harp off on how much better one game is compared to another, without ANY real basis for comparison. Then you call fans of the franchise fanboys, because that's all you can come up with.
Which actually makes YOU the uppity fanboy with something to prove.
wrong about what? that this game is a ripoff of f-zero gx? well thats true so i must not be wrong about that... am i wrong about the fact about the tracks being too thin? well thats painfully obvious that they ARE too thin so i guess im not wrong about that either... and if u mean when i said f-zero came out in "like the 80s" i was just guessing around 88 or so. i was at least close. but its a shame u never played f-zero gx because u would agree with me that it is WAY better than this ripoff
Actually, yes. you're wrong about this game being a ripoff of F-Zero GX. WipeOut, much like F-Zero, is a rather long-standing franchise. Granted, the F-Zero franchise has been around since 1990, where WipeOut started in '95. However, the two types of racing are actually different.
While both games utilize high-speed hovercraft, F-Zero is more like Formula One racing (I would hope you'd figured that out already). WipeOut is more like speedboat, jetski, or even (to a point) plane racing. Really, if WipeOut were actually a ripoff of any game preceding it, it would be S.T.U.N. Runner, which is a racing game that not only involves anti-gravity vehicles, but also predates F-Zero.
Since I don't have a way to play any F-Zero game readily available to me, I looked up some gameplay footage of previous iterations of F-Zero. All of the F-Zero games that bear any sort of solid resemblance to WipeOut, were released after the original WipeOut, so I'd like to know what else you consider WipeOut to be ripping off of F-Zero.
As for complaining about the tracks being too thin - that's like complaining about death metal songs in Guitar Hero or Rock Band being too fast and/or technical to play. All you have to do is practice, which is why people with actual experience playing WipeOut have little to no trouble navigating the tracks.
What's more, with the new Pilot Assist feature, I've heard you can do a time trial by strapping some rubber bands to the controller and walking away. They put that in so that people who were turned off by the difficulty could actually get into the game more easily.
I also find your complaint about the difficulty interesting because people are always going on about how F-Zero's vehicles travel so much faster than WipeOut's, they do. That being the case, shouldn't the slower speed, coupled with Pilot Assist, allow you to navigate the so-called "too thin" tracks, anyway?
i didnt complain about the difficulty...i ppl protect the game by saying the slowness is due to it being on a low difficulty. all i complained about was how paper-thin the tracks are. and the handling could be better too
Different vehicles handle differently, but all of them can decelerate to take the turns either by letting up on the thrust, or using the air brakes.
Of course, I already mentioned Pilot Assist, as well as learning to play and practicing, but if you have no intention of doing either one of those last two, then you have no argument as far as gameplay is concerned.
i know practicing helps but thats not the point. this game no matter what u have to slow down WAY too much on turns that u just shouldnt have to. if its its less than an 120° turn or so u should have to slow down or drift to get around the corner without hitting anything. but in this game u have to slow down at simple curved roads. they arent even turns. btw every ship looks like the Red Gazelle, the fan favorite ship from f-zero gx
Please explain how practicing isn't the point in the case of failing to perform any sort of task for the first time? Especially in the case of two games that apparently have very different physics?
There are turns you need to slow down for and turns you don't. Since YOU've never played WipeOut, YOU likely need to slow down for all of them. With PRACTICE, the wider curves become a non-issue and the hairpins aren't so much of a problem, either. At that point the only thing you have to worry about is getting hit with a missile, or the quake disruptor, or rounding a curve into a trail of mines that someone left for you.
Also, I looked up the Red Gazelle, which is actually on the cover of F-Zero X, which came out in 1998. It not only looks like the ships from the original WipeOut, from 1995, but also has design elements that appear to be lifted from the ships in S.T.U.N. Runner, from 1989.
I doubt that they were, but my point is you really need to stop trying to make this "visual ripoff" argument work.
Unless, of course, you're just practicing to get better at it.
dude it is a ripoff lol. even this track is like that port city track from f-zero gx. ur just protecting it cuz its on ps3. if this was on xbox 360 i wouldnt say its not a ripoff. even if it was on wii and didnt say f-zero it would still be a ripoff. and even tho it is a ripoff i would buy it if it didnt have such thin tracks and crappy handling. so the game wont even be as fun as f-zero. the tracks are a little boring also, f-zero has like winding turns and tunnels and spirals etc. way better
I'm not protecting it because it's on the PS3, I'm protecting it because you came in here making ignorant statements about it. You've already proven that you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to the gameplay, yet you still go on and on about how it sucks, even though people have continued to embrace the franchise even after more than a decade, to which I'd say "just like F-zero fans embrace the F-Zero franchise," but then you'd just cite that as WipeOut ripping off F-Zero.
You even continued to demonstrate your ignorance of the series by stating that it doesn't have "like winding turns and tunnels and spirals etc," which it has in the past. You also still haven't explained exactly why it's a ripoff, other than your opinions on the visual design, and I've already given you reasons why those opinions hold no weight.
All you've done is continue to insist that it's a ripoff, and that no one should be able to play it because - according to you, who can't play the game at all, and have no intentions of learning how - the vehicles handle so poorly, and the tracks are too narrow to navigate. You have nothing else to go on, and yet you keep going on about something that relevant only to people like you.
1. its a ripoff, get over it. 2. who said i cant learn how to play lol. theres a difference between learning how to play the game and not being able to play it to your full potential due to shitty game design. ur not going to have much fun playing this game if u buy it. maybe for a few days but all ur gonna be doing is crashing, and if u slow down so u dont crash then the ppl behind u will crash into u cuz of the sudden decceleration. id rather play motorstorm, thats an awesome racing game
"ur not going to have much fun playing this game if u buy it. maybe for a few days but all ur gonna be doing is crashing, and if u slow down so u dont crash then the ppl behind u will crash into u cuz of the sudden decceleration. id rather play motorstorm, thats an awesome racing game"
I seem to be doing just fine so far racing at the hardest level, according to my own videos. Go right ahead and play Motorstorm. Since that has nothing to do with anything, except that it's also a racing game.
motorstorm is another racing game for ps3. thats what i meant. if i wanted to play a racing game on ps3 id choose motorstorm over this. if itd make u feel better maybe i should say ud have more fun playing f-zero gx :). and if u want me to say something good about this game: the graphics are great, and i love those blue comet-like tails that trail behind the racers. but i hate that chicks annoying voice, they shouldve just had like an icon or something for attacks and laps and shit
Nothing you've just said changes anything you've previously said.
And what I meant was that since Motorstorm is an off-road racing game, and no one's brought it up in the sense of being a ripoff of something else or having shitty controls, it's completely irrelevant to what we've been going on about for the past two days.
i never said motorstorm was a ripoff of anything like this game is. i just said if u had a choice to play ANY racing game on PS3 that motorstorm would be better. ur not listening. they are both on ps3 only, thats the comparison i was making. but i said also if it would make u happy i can instead say that choosing between f-zero gx and this then f-zero would be better.
Obviously, wipeoutHd looks more realistic since it is for a new next-generation console such as Xbox360.Anyway,even though F-Zero Gx has less graphics cause' it is for gamecube,I think It is MORE engaging and FASTER than Wipeout HD for what I see in the video.BoO!xD
The only reason it "looks" slower is because the vid is obviously on a slower class. When you get to the Phantom you don't even have a second to blink..
--Would be nice to still be able to make custom skins like it Pulse, I loved personalizing my ships =)
Copy... what are copys? Is Call of Duty a copy of Medal of Honor? Is every race-game a copy of other racegames?
The most important thing in ALL Games is the fun to play! And that fun you can get in Wipeout too! Just, because it is a copy of Fuck-Zero, it dont have to be a bad game ;)
u clearly dont understand what a ripoff is. just because its the same IDEA doesnt mean its a ripoff. so WWII games arent ripoffs of eachother. ur basically saying with the racing thing that need for speed is a ripoff of mario kart... this is almost an EXACT copy of f-zero. and btw i didnt say it didnt matter if it was fun. i mentioned that the tracks are thin as hell, look how often u crash into it. it will make for shitty gameplay.
And i ask you again... wheres the problem with a exact F-Zero-ripoff like "WipEout"? Should PS-Players dont get that fun, like the Nintendo-Fans with F-Zero?
If the tracks are thin, it challanges you.
I have after 3 Hours Gameplay no serious problems with the steerings any more. And now it makes very much fun! Like in Ridge Racer with its strong gameplay.
It's just your Will, if you WANT to play that game and train your skills, or you watch away and talk shit about it.
guns dont matter lol. its a racing game, but f-zero gx did have ways of damaging other players. and yes f-zero was the first game to have futuristic hover cars. the game is from like the 80's
You're a fucking moron. F-Zero, the original and it's Japan only sequal F-Zero 2 were BASIC, mode-7 racers with 8 weapons and 0 combative aspects. By the time F-Zero on the N-64 hit, Wipeout had come and GONE. Wipeout introduced the whole 3d aspect, as well as weapons and combat into this particular genre of hovercraft racing.
i guess u forgot about F-Zero GX on the gamecube lol it looks almost exactly like this and its like 5 years older. and f-zero gx had a spinning attack to damage other racers and it was also 3D. so really the only reason this game does have that fireball thing is to make it slightly different from f-zero gx and to make fanboys like u think its better just cuz it has a gun.
tweeked alot and i ant played much of the ps2 versions but the original wipeout was a fukin excellent game(can you put your own music on this game for the ps3 version,iv heard rumors?)
this seems kinda slow after watching a f-zero gx vid

i never said motorstorm was a ripoff of anything like this game is. i just said if u had a choice to play ANY racing game on PS3 that motorstorm would be better. ur not listening. they are both on ps3 only, thats the comparison i was making. but i said also if it would make u happy i can instead say that choosing between f-zero gx and this then f-zero would be better.

I know you didn't say it was a ripoff of anything. I just now said:
"...no one's brought it up in the sense of being a ripoff of something else or having shitty controls..."
and that's why bringing it up was irrelevant. The argument was about F-Zero and Wipeout.

Dbl tap, left/right sorts it out just fine..i NEVER slow down.
its a very addictive game, even tho quite basic.

I said that wipeout is very similar to F-Zero GX , ThE difference is that F-Zero is MUCH more BETTER .XD

Not True. Wipeout has a much better sense of realism. F Zero GX looks like a fuckin cartoon lol

F-Zero GX is a joke compared to this.

i guess the "fun factor" just doesnt matter in games anymore :/ its all about looks and a sense of realism now huh?

youre wrong, Vykrel...

no, i am right. dont defend a game that is just a blatant copy of another
Vykrel 3 years ago
And apples are just a blatant copy of oranges!
Adam24G 3 years ago
A copy, that makes much more fun.
Copy... what are copys? Is Call of Duty a copy of Medal of Honor? Is every race-game a copy of other racegames?
The most important thing in ALL Games is the fun to play! And that fun you can get in Wipeout too! Just, because it is a copy of Fuck-Zero, it dont have to be a bad game ;)
greetings

u clearly dont understand what a ripoff is. just because its the same IDEA doesnt mean its a ripoff. so WWII games arent ripoffs of eachother. ur basically saying with the racing thing that need for speed is a ripoff of mario kart... this is almost an EXACT copy of f-zero. and btw i didnt say it didnt matter if it was fun. i mentioned that the tracks are thin as hell, look how often u crash into it. it will make for shitty gameplay.
Vykrel 3 years ago
And i ask you again... wheres the problem with a exact F-Zero-ripoff like "WipEout"? Should PS-Players dont get that fun, like the Nintendo-Fans with F-Zero?
If the tracks are thin, it challanges you.
I have after 3 Hours Gameplay no serious problems with the steerings any more. And now it makes very much fun! Like in Ridge Racer with its strong gameplay.
It's just your Will, if you WANT to play that game and train your skills, or you watch away and talk shit about it.

F-Zero had guns...? I think I missed something there... Hold on... Did F-Zero also design the original future/hover car concept... no?
LeinahtanVerizon 3 years ago
guns dont matter lol. its a racing game, but f-zero gx did have ways of damaging other players. and yes f-zero was the first game to have futuristic hover cars. the game is from like the 80's
Vykrel 3 years ago
You're a fucking moron. F-Zero, the original and it's Japan only sequal F-Zero 2 were BASIC, mode-7 racers with 8 weapons and 0 combative aspects. By the time F-Zero on the N-64 hit, Wipeout had come and GONE. Wipeout introduced the whole 3d aspect, as well as weapons and combat into this particular genre of hovercraft racing.
wautrey 3 years ago
i guess u forgot about F-Zero GX on the gamecube lol it looks almost exactly like this and its like 5 years older. and f-zero gx had a spinning attack to damage other racers and it was also 3D. so really the only reason this game does have that fireball thing is to make it slightly different from f-zero gx and to make fanboys like u think its better just cuz it has a gun.

I dunno...the series kinda lost me on Wipeout Fusion. Just doesn't feel the same.
