  • dude my metal work teacher said

    A before O or up u go

so no u turn off the acetylene first then oxygen

  • thanks

  • You have the crescent wrench backwards when using it. The movable jaw is not meant to carry the load. Flip it over and you would appear to know what you're doing.

  • I set it all up right but when i went to add some oxygen the torched popped and shut off. I dont know what i did wrong. Could you make a video on what you do after you light the torch?

  • Dry leaves and direct sunlight. Dude you scare me.

  • ay a good tip is when u screw all the stuff togeather...spray soapy water on all the connections. to insure that there are no leaks...ive had these go up in smoke and fire before..

  • Good video! I couldn't help feeling anxiety of you just torching up the place with all those dry leaves around. Can you imagine how firemen would feel watching this video?

  • My booklet says your supposed to crack BOTH cylinders.

  • @luthmhor The Oxygen is supposed to be opened all the way to prevent up to 2000 lbs pressure from riding on the stem seal and blowing past it eventually. The acetylene is lower pressure...

  • "I survived." HAHAHAHA You had me rolling! Good video!

  • Matter of fact that liquid spraying out of the actyelene tank will even smell like acetone and not like actyelene. If it happens. Just something to look out for.

And a good reason to crack open a tank to check that possibility.

BTW all left handed threads in all nuts will have that extra mark stamped into the nut.

Look at it and notice the marks on the sides of the nut. Same for cars ,buses, airplanes etc.,.

  • I cannot figure out this website editing procedure. I am new.

That back yard full of dry leaves would be a real fire hazard. around that torch flame.

    Sorry for the double post.

Sometimes actyelene turns to acetone after the tanks have been sitting or a long time. It is most common in the very small size tanks. But it does occasionally happen.

  • When you open the actyelene valve it is not increasing the pressure unless you have the regulator handle on the low pressure side turned up (in) too high and exceed 20 lbs. pressure. (red zone). When you crack open the actyelene tank with no regulator it is releasing pressure from the tank NOT increasing the pressure.

  • You should crack open the actyelene bottle to blow any dirt out of the opening.

Also the mist that you keep seeing is a sign that the actyelene tank should be returned to the welding supply because it has turned to acetone. That can ruin your flashback valves. It will ruin them immediately . It makes the o rings swell up and stick. So if you did indeed wait 30 minutes and still see the liquid come out of the actyelene tank . Return it. You must have had the tank laying on its side in a truck?

  • A few pointers... 1) Turn the adjustable wrench so that the round head pulls (like a pipe wrench), 2) You didn't install check valves or flashback arrestors, and 3) You didn't do a soap & water leak test.

  • I agree but cracking the acetylene is a waist of gas. Hey you have the same welding hand cart I have.

  • I agree but cracking the acetylene is a waist of gas.

  • I agree but cracking the acetlyen is a waist of gas.

  • I've added annotations to address two frequent comments. First, I was wrong to open the acetylene cylinder. It's dangerous and unnecessary. Don't do that.

And second, as some commenters have pointed out, my torch has built-in flashback arrestors. If yours doesn't, add some.

  • You are really not supose to crack the asetylene becouse the pressure is not regulated. Therefor, you can exceed the max 15psi output of the celeder. DO NOT CRACK THE ASETYLENE! It is very dangerus. Insted simply take a small amount of comopressed air. I recomend some flashback arestors too.

  • @skutits69 Ignore the previous comment. The acetylene WILL NOT combust from cracking the valve. It is a recommended practice and is completely safe just have proper ventilation.

Allowing the acetylene to blow contaminants out of the valve is a better practice than compressed air which can blow them into the valve itself. Where debris can get between the valve stem and seat when it's opened.

The 15 PSI rule ONLY APPLIES when the gas is compressed in a confined space such as your welding hose.

  • A before O or up you go!

  • What size tanks are those

  • a better video than a lot of so called pros. well done!

  • My father in law's air compressor crashed yesterday while I was in the middle of cutting an I-Beam with his plasma cutter. I had to resort to his a/o rig to finish. Having used an a/o torch only once about a year ago, I was having trouble finding the sweet spot on the flame. I found this video with my iPhone; the tip about adjusting the "acetylene feather and inner cone" solved my issues! Thanks for the video!

  • All those dry leaves around? Brilliant.

  • All those dry leaves around? Brilliant.

  • nd check valves... there important too... id invest man

  • @ARon170 All name brand modern torches have both flashback arrestors and check valves right in the torch valve body assembly. I know for a fact all Victors do.

Even the cheapy Harbor Freight torches do. Unless you're working with a real ancient torch you're safe and even then there are retrofit kits for most older torches.

Putting any auxiliary anti blowback measures in externally is overkill and could reduce gas flow.

  • budz you totally forgot about the flashback arresters, lol, you wouldnt see me playin with that, haha,

  • You narrate well.

  • You sound like a flight attendant on a plane. Ha. Sweet Video.

  • not to be rude.... I've used a set up like this once.... but you should be more carefull dude!!!

    :)

  • I always wanted to buy an oxy-acetylene set for my body shop, and learn how to weld. But the o/a scares me.

I think you forgot about anti-backfire valves.

    Nice vid. thanks!

  • This is a good video.

  • how about the pressure settings dumb ass!

  • @buckyboy2000 You set the pressure depending on the tip dumbass. why don't you try opening up a book instead of leaving rude comments on peoples videos. Do a google search or something. asshole.

  • Helpful tip. when you turn the oxygen cylinder one dont have the regulator key in. we had a thing in school this week where the kid did that and cracked the cylinder too fast and the regulator key flew across the room abd made a nice hole in the wall.

  • You may want to install check valves and flash guards on your lines! Really! LOL

Oh and don't believe everything you hear, the air gets shut off first.

  • @441MPYSstihl So you shut the Oxygen off first huh? Does the fire go out?

  • Hi, and thanks for sharing , my ole metal teacher use to say :)-

    Very silly, but very serious.

    A tidy little poem:

    A before O

    or up you go...

turn on ace first/shut it off first.

    lo tor joxer 80909

  • @joxer80909 I agree. My shop teacher used to bust our butts for making acetylene smoke though. If you just crack the oxygen valve a little, then the acetylene when you lite it, it will not smoke. When you turn off the acetylene first, it will pop, but so what. It keeps the soot from gooking up the tip!

  • First flames at four (4:00).
