Living off his earnings, Jones resumed painting, and fathered another five children. He spurned offers to return to the screen, even after his personal fortunes and health declined, and passed on the role of Zed in Quentin Tarantino's groundbreaking Pulp Fiction in 1994. Jones made a brief return to film in 1996, with a small part in former co-star Larry Bishop's Mad Dog Time, but has no other plans for acting roles.
Hey Sleeping....these bums made an LP????????....Oh Man I thought they were a one hit wonder...I had the 45 back in "68 maybe????? Nice song no doubt, I am surprised they made an LP. Good Post.
LOL - Yes it came out about the same time as the movie around 1968. I did find the LP a few years later [1974ish] in the discount bin at Melody Record shop in Union, NJ for $1.99.
Saw this at the drive in in the summer of 1968. I have always liked this song and it was played alot on the radio. The premise of the movie was that everyone over 30 was place in camps and youth ran the country. Boy were we screwed up then.
"The Shape of Things to Come" was a novel by H.G. Wells which accurately predicated the one government, New World Order towards which we are heading today. Wake up people.
My dad, Gary McClain, was in the band "The Thirteenth Power". His band recorded this song. My sister and I are trying to research any information regarding his band. If anyone knows anything about the band, please post it here.
Wow, that is so cool. What instrument did your Dad play? Unfortunately, I don't have any information about the band other than to confirm that they were the ones who recorded this song and (if I'm not mistaken) most of the other songs from the movie. Although I understand that Christopher Jones did provide his own vocals.
I think you're mistaken. The thirteenth power was a fictional name given to the studio musicians playing on the album that was in reality Davie Allen and the Arrows. Check out his discography. Christopher Jones most certainly did not provide the vocals. Of that I am positive.
Good on your Dad! the Thirteenth Power rules! A good place to find information is by contacting bands who were active at the same time--these 60's bands are kind of like a villagethey usually know someone who knows someone...Hope your dad and his bandmates regroup and tour and show the kids what REAL music is! Good Luck--
saw it once on late night tv as a kid. Huge memory of it. Very good movie actually. Shelly Winters did a good job. Took me so many years to find this song. Wasn't until the internet came along. Now I have a CD with this song on it along with a bunch of other greats.
yeah, geat movie! shelly ruled! yeah & so did that kid that looked sort of like buffy of buffy & jody, who said in response to max frost saying he was like 23 "that's old!" yeah!!my girl!when my younger freinds say they "feel old" i say "ur old!" & we laugh! they love this film!
Wow, I was flipping channels and this came on Metroplex. Anyone else old enough to remember seeing it in theaters? Did you cry too as Christopher Jones did in the song?
Diana Short! Remember when you and i went to see this movie in downtown San jose 40 years ago? My mom Carol and your mom Fay were good friends and you loved The Monkees and Roller Derby at was on channel 52
it looks like an EV... their mics often have a narrow shaft with a bulb on the end. I did a google and came up with something that looks similar: Electro-Voice 631
The movie was indeed released in '68 and I remember it so clearly because of how radical it was just like I was at the ripe old age of 9. My Dad was in Viet Nam and I was fighting with my own demons back then. The story was fantasy but the song so appropriate back then, as it is now 40 years later!
The name of the band that recorded this song was The 13th Power. That's stated clearly on the jacket of the soundtrack LP, but Tower Records issued the single they put "Max Frost and the Troopers" as the name of the band, even though those were just characters from the movie.
Great song. I remember this and other music was the way to express our feelings. Because the adults were not interested in what we had to say. Especially since we that what they had done so far was wrong. This was not a popular movie with adults. I had to sneak to see it. At the time i thought it was great. But i have to admit it is a bit exteme in alot of ways. but it still a great song thanks for posting it.
Holy Crap! I'd forgotten about this movie and this song. I Loved this tune. I played it so often I think I ground the groves right through the record. Thanks so much for this post.
in this flick (which I saw in 1967) it said that everybody over 30 years of age would be incarcerated into old folks camps. No other generation could talk that kind of jive tlak like we did. gUILTY!@#&^@&#

The British rock band Slade did a cover of this song on their album 'Play it loud' back in 1970, it is better than the original.

Ian Whitcomb. Brittish rocker. One "hit"
wonder. Remember..."You Turn Me On" ? "Ah,ah,ah,ah....you turn me on". Sung in a horrible falsetto. Its on the flip side of the 45.

what?
this is Max Frost & The Troopers.
deffinetly not Ian Whitcomb.

It was a house band put together to record a song for this movie. I got the info from the Nuggets CD.

Phil Ochs was originally offered the lead for this movie (Wild in the Streets) but he turned it down...to bad...he would have been better.

really - that's interesting.
But I disagree, I don't think he'd have done as good a job as Christopher Jones.
