Ive been playing drums for 5 years but I cant figure out yet, do mics make each drum sound better than in real life? That snare sounds amazing.

@AudioAngerCinema the mics by themselves wont, because they only pick up the sound that the kit makes, which depends on the acoustics of the room. ie. in a church hall everything will ring alot more, as opposed to a dry room. positioning of the mics is crucial aswell. with the overheads, the closer to the cymbals they are the less it will pick up the rooms natural reverb and the more focused on the cymbals it will be, and vice versa...

@AudioAngerCinema .... with close mics, the more they point towards the centre of the drum the more attack it will pick up and less of the resonance of the drum.

put basically, a good kit, positioned well in a good room, with good mic positioning will make a kit sound amazing. you can also completely ruin it with bad mic positions and a bad room.

in recordings they also EQ and compress them, but i dont think so in this video, theyre trying to get as close to how it sounds as
