  • i wish the vets were para jumping. That would be really cool.

  • @c00lb0y10 They would die on the landing. It's 14 feet per second. lol strong legs, the only vet I've seen jump is Peter Silverman of either the 1st Canadian Para's or the CAR.

  • Any surviving vets would be in there late 80's by now.

good lie mate i think u should thank google for the info ;)

  • Dick Winters.... where is he O.O :DDDD

  • Thank God for all of you.We could never thank you enough.

  • bless u all

  • Thanks again, boys! You will always be in history as having saved Europe.

  • i doubt the airborne vet will answer me but i was wondering if u had any trouble or even used the leg bags that so many paratroopers had torn off by the initial prop blast on d-day my grandfather served with the 82nd airborne until he was taken out of action in just after the bulge and he always goes on about how he lost his radio batteries rifle demo kit everything he had except two hershey bars and a half a pack of lucky strikes oh and his trench knife

  • @geordies4990 The leg bags worked okay IF you had them properly secured. The biggest problem I remember with them was not that then came off, but that they tore. The early ones were not strong enough so a lot of guys stopped using them even after they were redesigned. It has been a long time, but that is what I recall.

  • @BuzzBait007 Lol!!

  • One of my clients at my job came up to me a few weeks ago during a cold snap here in Florida and told me: "December 23, 1944 near a small town in Belgium, I made promise to myself that I would never live in the cold." I realized that he was talking about the Battle of the Bulge and I asked him what unit he was in and he told me "101st Airborne" I wanted to ask him so many questions, but I started to get too busy.

  • @skottmjfarkus ; to give you an idea, last week -10°C = 14°F around Bastogne, Everytime I did the historic walk it was FREEZING.

  • Wow, I feel privileged to even reply to a comment of a WW2 vet on here. I'm an Australian teenager who is fascinated by the soldiers and sacrifices of the Second World War. Im sure you have heard this many times before but you are a hero sir, thank you!

  • yes i agree with you, people like that make me sick as well they are the reason why america is in a bad economy

  • So the Brass decided they were going to create combat units to jump from planes & they asked for volunteers....No hands went up.....Then they said we would get an extra $25 a month! That made it 50 bucks! My hand went up......

  • texasreb58, wasnt baker com 506th thoose who ran away at carentan? i still respect them but they ran away and lot easy stand alone

  • That was Dog and Fox who were to Easy's left flank...

  • they didn't "run away". That makes them sound cowardly. They retreated.

  • Read the book "Band of Brothers" and you will see that they were really, really shit scared. The parachute boys of Easy company were disgusted by the way they fled. Can't say I blame them for being terrified by the German onslaught, but we must all understand that American troops are only human and will flee with the best of them!

  • I dont understand why you replied to what I said...

  • Hi PfcPederson: I replied to your comment in the interest of truth. When Easy arrived near Bastogne, "Down the middle of the road came the defeated American troops, fleeing the front in disarray, moblike. Many had thrown away their rifles, their coats, all encumbrances. Some were in a panic, staggering, exhausted, shouting, 'Run! Run! They'll murder you! . . .' Dick Winters: 'It was pathetic. We felt ashamed'. (From "Band of Brothers".) Sorry, not a retreat but a rout - poor buggers!

  • you're right.

  • I was with Dog Co. We did NOT run away, or retreat. We fell back and regrouped, Big difference, We also firmed up the line and HELD those Kraut scum.

  • You're not an actual veteran. Who are you trying to fool?

  • Yes, I am an actual veteran. Would you like copies of my DD214? Perhaps the citations I received? I can provide any proof you desire, just give me your address and I will have them copied and mailed off to you.

  • No, I do not want copies of anything. If you are an actual veteran and served in the paratroops, then I apologize and I thank you for your service.

  • Yes, I am an actual veteran of the 101st.

Airborne, I served for 25 years and retired as a bird Colonel. Your gracious apology is accepted Sir. My service was my pleasure, Best to you,

    William

  • so were did you drop in during d day?

  • I landed North of the town of Carentan. I was slated for drop zone "D" but we missed and I ended up close to a town called St. Come- du-Mont. I landed in a farm pond and got soaked. When I crawled out of the pond there were two German soldiers looking at my parachute. I shot them both, then ran toward the road. Before long I found more Airborne troopers and we moved toward our intended DZ to link up.

  • so how old were you when you joined the paratroopers?

  • I had just turned 18 years old. I volunteered right out of basic training.

  • @101stAirborneVeteran - Ru a guy posing a soldier?... It's illegal to impersonate a soldier these days. Look up the Stolen Valor Act on google.

  • You know, I get tired of people like you. I am not impersonating anybody. I am exactly what I say I am and am willing to provide any evidence you care to see in order to prove it.

  • so is there any more veterans that served with you that are also on youtube

  • I really don't know. I have lost touch with many of them, and many more are now guarding Heavens gate.

  • so what was one of the strangest things you ever saw during the war

  • Interesting question. There were a lot of odd things. Perhaps the most unusual thing was a British trooper for their 1st Airborne during Market Garden. He had so many apples stuffed into his pockets he could hardly walk. When asked about it he informed us that Dutch civilians were so happy to see him they were giving him about the only food they had, which was the apples. He didn't want to apear rude, so he kept accepting them even after his pockets were full.

  • so what town did your company fight for in operation market garden?

  • The town was called Veghel. The bridge there was the objective.

  • did you ever come across a concentration camp with prisoners still alive?

  • Yes. I will not discuss that. Even now.

  • and why is that sir

  • Because it was the worst thing you can imagine. In fact, there is no way you can imagine it. No matter the pictures or films you have seen, you can get that into your head unless you saw it.

Human beings treated like that, living like that. I am sorry, I simply cannot talk about that.

  • i understand, so did you ever become friends with people from easy company?

  • A company was 250 men, at full strength. We were in the same division, but not always near each other. I met men in Easy, but no lasting friendships came that.

  • well did you ever get shot

  • I got shot in Holland. I got shot in Korea too. It hurts. A lot.

  • did you ever capture some germans that were in the ss

  • No. We simply shot them. They would not surrender, so we showed them the error of their ways with rifles.

  • why did you choose to be in the airborne?

  • Because it sounded like an adventure, and it paid more too.

  • sounded like an adventure? well you were there right, so was it

  • More than I could have imagined.

  • would you have rather fought with the marines in the pacific theater

  • No. I had a brother with the 5th Marines. I never saw him after he shipped out to the Pacific.

  • on what island did he ship out to?

  • what island was he shiping out to you must know if you really are who you claim to be

  • He shipped out to Australia in the summer of 42. He fought on The Canal and was killed on New Guinea.

  • @101stAirborneVeteran Dont listen to people like that!, God bless you!

  • @101stAirborneVeteran Don't worry about those people. You don't need to prove yourself to them.

  • o and if u were from dog company, do u knw a a person by the name of Ronald Speirs?..

  • Where did you learn to type? Sad

.Ronald Speirs was a platoon leader in Dog Co. He and I served in Korea together some years later in a line company. I believe he passed away a couple of years ago. Did you know him?

  • @101stAirborneVeteran why claim to be something your not? aa real veteran wouldnt talk of shooting no germans, fake thats all you are and you would also be in your late 80's so do1 bitch.

  • @24122471991

Prove that he isn't genius. Some may not talk of that, others are willing to share their stories with anyone willing to listen. So before opening your mouth about what I saying, I know many veterans of the 101st from WW2. To me everyone of them is a hero and a good role model.

  • @24122471991 What are you talking about? A real veteran wouldn't talk of shooting no Germans? That sentence makes no sense at all. I am wondering what you are trying to say. Can you find a native English speaker near you and perhaps ask them to give you some help?

  • @101stAirborneVeteran are you stupid? 99% of vets would have had a terrible time after ww2 and i know for a fact that Germans, Italians and so on are respected as other humans doing the job they was told.

therefor wouldnt boast about killing anyone especially on frigging youtube derrr

  • @24122471991 Did you fight the war? no... so i suggest you shut the hell up. Even if there is a chance he isn't who he says he is, there still is a chance he is and as long as that is so... you should SHUT THE HELL UP!

  • @emmavbijnen ARE YOU SERIOUS?? you must be a fucking retard to believe a vet is on youtube posting videos in his late 80s early 90s, other than trying to claim he has killed people with no self respecting vet would do over a video networking site, you notice "he" hasn't spoke to me?? cause i would run him silly into a apologizing so suck my dick bitch.

  • @24122471991 hahahahahaha if you don't believe it, why waste your time commenting?

Oh and thanks for the offer, but i don't want to suck your dick.

  • @emmavbijnen cause i find it disrespectful, it was a job for the real people not abit of fun as this fake makes out

  • @24122471991 I get that! But this way he gets more attention and that is exactly what you don't want right?

You can yell at me all you want, but personally i think calling me a 'bitch' is disrespectful

  • @emmavbijnen its just annoying that people cant use there brain and work out he is a fake, calling you a bitch is no where as disrespectful as claiming you have killed people and done thing which you hav not.

no real vets have written books and made there own video logs with them as recognized solders on it this bloke has wrote on some1 Else's video claiming to be something he isnt and im the one getting called a idiot come onnnnn

  • @24122471991 Again.. I get that you find this annoying, but are you now saying that real vets didn't write books using their own names? I thought Winters has a book called "Beyond Band of Brothers" and Buck Compton a book called "Call of Duty".

Oh and saying someone claiming he is someone he is not is worse so it doesn't matter? You also don't say "oh raping that girl isn't bad, it is not like I kill women like some men do"

  • those guys are lucky ,they werent looking at tracers streaming at them

  • Don't forget Baker Company 506th,,,the company of my late Uncle W' Lee Crowley Jr.

  • wonderful

  • Bastogne. Unbelieveable. There will never be another battle like this one.

  • never fofget ALL the heros

  • Were those guys with parachutes really some of the old Easy vets?

  • no, the easy vets were the ones spectating Says clear in the info :)

  • very good

  • nice vid

  • good video
