I work at a place called Twinlakes Park in Melton mowbray, and we have the buffalo and the pirate ship from american adventure.. but still cant believe its gone!!! American Adventure was my favourite place as a 10 yr old!!!!

the runaway train is now used as a travelling fair ride, it was at nottinghams goose fair october just gone operated by james mellors amusements, it took them ages to set up and take down!: ) loads of the track is missing from the original aswell

The death of a much loved and missed theme park! My mum took me here when I was younger. Can't believe it's no longer with us. Gullivers kingdom was the next closest then altons towers but It just wasn't the same!

it is going to be changed in to a retail park :'( I was going to hopefully go there for my birthday to have a look round and reminisce but the plan was to start building the retail park in June :'( it was the best place ever!!!! probably went down because the telegraph used to give free tickets away....a lot.

the missile was my 1st upside down ride i think, was good. I liked the mining for gold part wear you had to siv for gold and you got a medal! I think ive still got that medal somewhere. It was a nice park tbh but i guess it couldnt compete with alton towers and others. I think some company should of bought it like mcdonalds, xbox, playstion, nintendo or nike and filled it full of new huge rides and advertising. If that happened it wouldnt fail. infact im surprised no one has thought of it

it might be a stretch for some, but I see the decline and failure of "The American Adventure" theme park as an aptly timed metaphor for what's happening to the REAL American Adventure on this side of the pond..i.e. the USA.

Was completely shut in Jan 2007, failing gate figures aswell as rides needing work caused it to fall. I think the biggest mistake was trying to make it an under 14's style park in 2005 but i guess they couldnt compete with drayton manor and alton towers

I used to love going here with my parents as a young boy. Such a shame...I worked in the control room for the Security firm that did the Security here about 2 years ago (Keepsafe Security based in Riddings) and they are all "Fat Nazi guards" lol! The in joke in the control room was Sleepsafe Security so you should have no problem doing a bit of tresspassing!

@lukeer31 Iv'e not been there now in over a year and half, in fact i live in another country now. I'm not sure what will be left (if anything). But yes it will be tresspassing, the same as it was when i did this video.... access was the most easy from the far carpark. Just watch out for the fat roaming guards with a nazi attitude. lol

For reference, American Adventure would have been reopened in early 2006 if Derbyshire County Council had let us purchase it, but they had "other plans" for the site, and insisted it was no good for a theme park site as the subsidance was too bad. From what I hear 4 years on its now completely flattened and still stood doing nothing.

I was in derbyshire, with my grandparents, brother and cousin. In the house we were staying in, we fond some leaflets for attractions around the area. One of them was about the American Adventure. It had prices, and a map of the park. So we decided to go there.

Using TomTom, we got there. All we could see was a big chain fence blocking the entrance. We could see no theme park. It was completley gone. Nothing was there, only the remains of the park. It was horrible.

This is bizarre, I remember when this place used to be a hive of activity in the summer; and now look at it. There used to be cowboys walking around (and that was just IL'son locals!), and country and western music playing. It was awesome!

I've been told that the place was opened my Buzz Aldrin. And to say that the whole park was themed around the genocide inflicted on the native Americans, it was a bloody good laugh as a kid!

Was there a few weeks ago - almost entirely demolished by now. Plans to redevelop it as a college are frozen now due to the credit crunch. The site is fallow, and will likely remain so for a while. Still worth a visit though...

from what i heard, they got rid of a lot of the big rides to turn it into an under 13's park. this meant they could save shit loads on insurance. no one came however. it closed due to no custom.
