  • 01.19 - aah... I remember tucking down on some real American fish and chips here. Kendal Fried Chicken will also be missed.

  • i want to go here, whats the risk of getting caught? much security or is just left alone?

  • I work at a place called Twinlakes Park in Melton mowbray, and we have the buffalo and the pirate ship from american adventure.. but still cant believe its gone!!! American Adventure was my favourite place as a 10 yr old!!!!

  • the runaway train is now used as a travelling fair ride, it was at nottinghams goose fair october just gone operated by james mellors amusements, it took them ages to set up and take down!: ) loads of the track is missing from the original aswell

  • I want to go on the rides!! :(

  • The track is called In The House - In A Heartbeat, incase nobody had mentioned it yet. Great video, shame what happened to it.

  • Its so easy to get into... i go there sometimes

  • The death of a much loved and missed theme park! My mum took me here when I was younger. Can't believe it's no longer with us. Gullivers kingdom was the next closest then altons towers but It just wasn't the same!

  • Actually makes me want to cry, i always used to go here, so sad, had some great times here

  • please tell me .. i need the name of this song and who is the interpret ... please thank you

  • @MrsItIsnt That first music i can tell you its from the Movie 28 Days/ 28 Weeks later.

  • wow not one broken window must be rich white neighborhood

  • I'm guessing that song is by Godspeed You! Black Emperor?

  • it is going to be changed in to a retail park :'( I was going to hopefully go there for my birthday to have a look round and reminisce but the plan was to start building the retail park in June :'( it was the best place ever!!!! probably went down because the telegraph used to give free tickets away....a lot.

  • very sad. had some brill times here in my teens.

  • What the fuck happened to that place?

  • the missile was my 1st upside down ride i think, was good. I liked the mining for gold part wear you had to siv for gold and you got a medal! I think ive still got that medal somewhere. It was a nice park tbh but i guess it couldnt compete with alton towers and others. I think some company should of bought it like mcdonalds, xbox, playstion, nintendo or nike and filled it full of new huge rides and advertising. If that happened it wouldnt fail. infact im surprised no one has thought of it

  • what song is this please?

  • it might be a stretch for some, but I see the decline and failure of "The American Adventure" theme park as an aptly timed metaphor for what's happening to the REAL American Adventure on this side of the pond..i.e. the USA.

  • didn't realise it had shut! and i only live an hour away!!

  • QUESTION: when was the last year this park operated.............and why do you think it failed and went under. A lot of parks went under because they just could not afford the huge liability insurance any more....

  • @inkey2

Was completely shut in Jan 2007, failing gate figures aswell as rides needing work caused it to fall. I think the biggest mistake was trying to make it an under 14's style park in 2005 but i guess they couldnt compete with drayton manor and alton towers

  • play this while listening to Mad world by Gary Jules, it will make you want to kill yourself lol

  • I saw a link for this on the High Octane Nightmare Fuel page on TvTropes. Happened I was listening to this exact song when I clicked. Cool.

  • I've been watching too much Slenderman. I kept expecting some tendrils or something

  • Aww I wondered why I didn't here about it anymore, that's sad.

  • I used to love going here with my parents as a young boy. Such a shame...I worked in the control room for the Security firm that did the Security here about 2 years ago (Keepsafe Security based in Riddings) and they are all "Fat Nazi guards" lol! The in joke in the control room was Sleepsafe Security so you should have no problem doing a bit of tresspassing!

  • Such a shame, I used to love that park as a kid. :(

  • i just want to cry now :( used to go there nearly all the time when i was little :/ if they hadnt have run out of money and more people would have been, then it would still be opened. what a shame aii :/

  • just need to trim back some of the weeds.... good as new

  • Check in 12/16/10 10:45pm thursday. Verizon tomorrow. Cooling tower leak, innovative, Ty Frank @ national real estate for the equiptment location help. Tele poles and 5 4

  • Every time I get a new girlfriend, I take her here to make love.

  • @WizardGlik that my freind, makes you a legend.

  • @dacs1980 hes not been yet lol

  • @WizardGlik how incredibly romantic

  • Do you have any idea why this particular park failed and was abandoned?

  • all gone now nothing to say it ever existed

  • are we allowed to go there now or is it still tresspassing?

  • @lukeer31 Iv'e not been there now in over a year and half, in fact i live in another country now. I'm not sure what will be left (if anything). But yes it will be tresspassing, the same as it was when i did this video.... access was the most easy from the far carpark. Just watch out for the fat roaming guards with a nazi attitude. lol

  • @dacs1980 Thanks mite try and sneak in and have a look i use to love it there as a kid i wish i could bring it back

  • @dacs1980 this video makes me cry every time i watch it especially at the first photos so how do i get in are there actually any guards there they mite have cleared off by now

it looks like a desolant place that was once full of happiness r.i.p the aa

  • @dacs1980 As far as I know nothing is there anymore

  • I live literally 2 mintues from Americans Adventure, its sad to see it looking like a ghost town.

  • Where is this place at? What was the name of the park? How long has it been closed?

  • when did this place close down?

  • Went to Alton Towers a couple of weeks ago, i'm sure the runaway mine train is there now!

  • @jayceezborg The Runaway Mine Train was always at Alton Towers

  • @jayceezborg Yeah I went there too and i thought that Alton Towers also had the log flume, the rapids, and rollercoasters too! ......... or not.

  • @jayceezborg No, the mine trane has been bought by twinlakes

  • @jayceezborg its at goose fair in nottingham now the alton towers one is not the one that was at American Adventure

  • Top notch, went here twice with school 91&94, sad to see it, had a great day. Music's great.

Would like to go and have a look, can you still get in?

  • Wonderful :) What I find weird however is the way in which some of your photos are "warped" :s Spoooooky!

  • Comment removed

  • why was it closed down? :(

  • Omg! i used to go there all the time when i was younger :) it looks scary now what a shame :( x

  • Amazing Video mate- the music fits spot on! I remebergoing here on a chool trip- it was my first Theme Park visit- we travelled 3 hours from Ross-on-Wye Herefordshire to get there. It looks so sad now :-(

  • -I think it is soo sad. I mean as a kid i loved it and it was amazing it had everything, i wish they just added more stuff on it to make it more better it woulds still be going =[ poor poor theme park =[ xxx

  • Nice touch with the 28 Days Later theme.

  • There's something really creepy about abandoned amusement parks.

  • For reference, American Adventure would have been reopened in early 2006 if Derbyshire County Council had let us purchase it, but they had "other plans" for the site, and insisted it was no good for a theme park site as the subsidance was too bad. From what I hear 4 years on its now completely flattened and still stood doing nothing.

  • Thanks so much for this video - went here as a kid. So sad to see it's closed down, but it's quite cool as a ghost town too - like something eerie from a movie

  • I went to this place about 10 years ago and it was completely dead. There was about 20 people in the whole park. I loved it! Too bad it's gone...

  • its sooo sad to watch this actually makes me feel depressed i love it there =0(

  • ok, this video is ok. but i have 1 question: why did u pick the song from 28 days/weeks later? it makes it seem like ur trying to make it scary but ur rlly not.

  • @IhateOrton Actually the song i used was played at the begining of the movie when london is "empty" and "deserted" same thing applies here. Plus I like the song. Nothing to do with scaryness, whats scary about a theme park?

  • @dacs1980 oh nvm then.

  • Im from west Hallam i used to see the them park from by window, it was so awsum having a theme park right near ur home... and in ilson! .. always used to go as a kid just wish i could of grew up with it !

  • can anyone tell me what the shooting range thing was called where u shot the hillbillies & they spurted water at you? please its really bugging me!

  • @ChiefPredz

Hillbilly Moonshine, we currently have 2 if you want to buy one ;)

  • so sad to see this i went there when i was 7 years old and i remember the buffalo roller coaster too, and the motion cinema there n all! sooo eriee watching this video seeing nothin but land :/ x

  • gutted :(

  • just walked round today not much left at all just the main steps going in, very strange to see it now

  • you know this used to be a good place to go for a day out until they scewd up Roley.

  • How cool. They'll probably tear it down and put an old navy in it's place.

  • go to the website and its gonna say that they closed for good for the past 20 years

  • sorry, completely at a tangent here...

... but whats the music on this???

    :)

  • its called "in the house in a heartbeat" by John Murphy, you can find it the soundtrack of "28 days later" hope that helps

  • @dacs1980

Excellent - just got the album now.

    Wonderful piece of work!

    THANKS!!

  • @fastra If im not mistaken, this is music from what I believe to from the movie 28 weeks later (someone else might be able to confirm this)

  • makes my get butterflies to know that i always went there

my dad worked there and most of my childhood memories are from there

    R.I.P The American Adventure 1987-2007

    x

  • I was in derbyshire, with my grandparents, brother and cousin. In the house we were staying in, we fond some leaflets for attractions around the area. One of them was about the American Adventure. It had prices, and a map of the park. So we decided to go there.

Using TomTom, we got there. All we could see was a big chain fence blocking the entrance. We could see no theme park. It was completley gone. Nothing was there, only the remains of the park. It was horrible.

    (This was late 2008)

  • I know. My childhood memories seem to have all just gone.

  • 2:27 there was always loads of people round that area cus of all hte shops but now it looks soo... different!

  • omg i remember this place so different i wannacry. I live near there im gunna go break in and see what happened to it. All i know is the pirate ship and buffalo ride went to twinlakes melton mowbray. Even go look

  • This is bizarre, I remember when this place used to be a hive of activity in the summer; and now look at it. There used to be cowboys walking around (and that was just IL'son locals!), and country and western music playing. It was awesome!

I've been told that the place was opened my Buzz Aldrin. And to say that the whole park was themed around the genocide inflicted on the native Americans, it was a bloody good laugh as a kid!

  • @sailbeyondthesunset Used to have a few decent rides, not a bad little park. Shame it's gone

  • So surreal. I went there for my end of school trip years ago, its sow eird looking at it now.

  • *weird

  • 28 weeks later theme ^_^

  • was overlooking the park from Shipley hill on saturday the only building left is the old winding house from the days of Shipley Woodside pit that pre dates britannia park, all park buildings have now gone

  • Was there a few weeks ago - almost entirely demolished by now. Plans to redevelop it as a college are frozen now due to the credit crunch. The site is fallow, and will likely remain so for a while. Still worth a visit though...

  • i remember going there, looking at some of my pokemon cards on the bus... jumping off the train ferry (when moving).... nearly falling out of the runaway train... i also remember going as a child at the rolller coaster simulator... clear in my mind,,, plain as day

you think everything will last forever, but it won't. Ask your parents and elders what they see around them.... i wonder what the place will be when im 80 (now 21) looking back on my childhood memories with a tear in my eye...

  • What's the plans for the park or any of the park sections now that its not a park anymore? Looks like a ghost town.

  • Maaaakes me sad :(

  • My sister and I walked round the outskirts of this park on Sunday afternoon and from what we could see the buildings have also gone now?

It looks so morbid and empty now

  • fucking miss that place :(

  • can you get in to look round whats security like then

  • You can get in, people have cut holes in the fance surrounding it. They are meant to be training police dogs in their though, but that being said I was in there for 4 hours yesterday and nothing happened.

  • wish i could go back for 1 more day! got sum wicked memorys! i think people just stoped going as they were not putting any money into the park and eveything was looking so tired!

  • good song by John Murphy

  • does anyone know where the runaway train has gone i wanna ride it again my and my m8 went on iy 30 times at once before

  • This was near Nottingham right?

  • not too far away. ilkeston.

  • There is another video on YT of this park.Beware of the nasty rude comments from that person who put up the video.

  • so its actually fully shut down

OMG i actually just shed a tear

    omg :(

    I LOVED THIS PLACE

    WENT LIKE EVERY HOLIDAY!!! :'(

  • 28 days later soundtrack!

  • Can you get in any of the buildings?, cause i live close to it, and a few friends have been in the park grounds and they also have some keys for it, for some safes or something.

  • It would be nice if folks would post where the park is etc.I'm having no luck lately, my posts just don't show up on here.

  • this place was amazing untill the shitty owners decided to turn it into a family theme park and look where that got them. i cud never sleep the night b4 when i went to this place.

  • I went there, when they didn't change it into a "family theme park" and boy it was amazing.

I'd love to try and change it back, but sadly I have no power to do so. It was great back then.

  • whats an enterance plaza

  • what they doing with the arcade and play area now

  • This just feels like alot is missing

Even if you didn't know what it was, you would just have this nagging feeling that something is missing....

  • Its so sad...i used to love that theme park.watching this vid almost made me cry :*(

  • where is this theme park like what state?

  • its in the uk...... in nottingham

  • Why Did It Close Down ??x

  • from what i heard, they got rid of a lot of the big rides to turn it into an under 13's park. this meant they could save shit loads on insurance. no one came however. it closed due to no custom.

  • Most likely got killed by Alton Towers or Thorpe Park, I've been meaning to go to AltonTowers but it's a good old 3-4hour drive from where I live.

  • wow thats scary. . .I LOVE IT! btw what is the song you used???PLEASE REPLY BACK!!!

  • the song is called "in the house in a heartbeat" its from 28 days later soundtrack. glad you liked the vid :)

  • has any one ever been to the ghost town amusment park in new jersey its so queit and nothing not even animals go to it except for on the wall the painting of the almost demonic looking grinning face your will never forget that face they call it tilly

  • howd you get in ? gud vid btw

  • thats awful, from full of life to a ghost town..nothingness. :(

  • What a gem of a park :(

  • Sad to see these great parks dissapear due to mis-management! This was also th case with Santa's Village in East Dundee Illinois which failed to open in time for the 2006 season.

  • why did it close down ?

  • The Theme Park went bankrupt

  • Gutted!

  • Narr :( i miss this place lol, they had the best pirate ship everr :) and the mini onee :D:D and the octapus ride and the balloons, lol and the gold mine,, childhood memories :P:P

    x

  • ahhh i went there about 4 or 5 years ago, had no idea it closed down D;

  • was setting off there this morning with kids ,what a shock !looks like i have to go to skeggy vagas !bollocks !

  • It looks kinda a little bit like a war zone or

    that humans went extinct.. creepy..

  • its weird watching adandoned places, like where they use to be full of people and nowleft to rot.

but this just a theme park and will probs be bought and rebuilt or something.

chernobyl, pripyat disater is really creepy, its like life after humans die out lol

good video tho, the music suits it :)

  • Was this the song used in 28 Weeks Later? Can ya tell me what it's called. Thanks!

  • its by john murphy, its called in the house in a heartbeat. hope that helps.

  • Thanks boss.

  • Best kept secret in Derbyshire. Took the kids a couple of times and they loved it. Shame.

  • when did you visit?

  • about three weeks ago, its worth going, although look out for the security, well i say security, what i actually mean is the fat guys in uniform with an ego problem.
