The artifact is the reactor of a plane and the living is Donnie.

@borghesia75 an artifact is a man made object. The living are made by nature. So I'm assuming it is a comparison of artifacts and living things. Similar to light and dark, dead and alive, ying and yang etc..

Can't remember where the piece is played but like others say - Frank was man made (in Donnies head), so was the plane engine, so was his pills.
