I can remember my father, takin me and my brother brian, on Dayliner trips all the time each summer.I loved sitting on the deck of the boat, playing Michael Jackson music on my cassette player with headphones.lol Remember them? The Dayliner was a great way to see New York. The Dayliner was a first class Act in my book.I wish they would bring it back! I will forever cherish the memories i had spending with my father & brother on the Dayliner! :)
I still remember a TV commercial for the Dayliner from the late 60s. The phone number given was a throwback to the olden days: BRyant 9-5151. Never went on it myself, although my mother considered it once.
MrGthomas - Small world, just watched again and saw the ice cream counter. that was actually my favorite part of the trip. Free ice cream and hot coco. Still have a scar on my right hand from spilling some while trying to navigate back to the top deck while balancing my cone and hot choco. Lorne Grant was his name and he did not become captain till 84 or 85. Last memory on that boat was accidentally walking in on Bowzer from sha na na in his underwear changing in my Dads sleeping quarters
I worked on the Dayliner from 1973 to 1977. Best job going due to the fact we made so much money. I am in the commercial serving the ice cream cone at the snack bar. One of my best friends Terry Woods in behind me. Truly amazing, thanks for posting
This brought back soooo many memories, I spent most of my summers on this boat. My step dad was the captain in the 80's. I can remember when I turned 9 he let me captain it from west point to bear mountain. I still have a passion for boats and the water because of this. Thanks for sharing
The description says that this commercial is from the 1960s, that is a mistake. The Dayliner replaced the good ship SS ALEXANDER HAMILTON after it was retired in 1971.
Thanks for the tip on the dating of this ad. Wonder if anyone would have the "Circle Line" ad of vintage late '60's and/or early '70's (with the "old fashioned" travel style music in A-flat, and the slogan "So much for so little")?

I used to take this cruise, and it truly was a 9 hour vacation. Wish it still were in operation.

Commercial is from the '70's. The original Dayline was the steamer Alexander Hamilton run up to about '71, replaced by the diesel boat shown.

That was one great day trip. The best part?
Walking back up 10th avenue on a dark summer's eve on a balmy night in 1979 through
an ominous and probably deadly mid-west side
NYC to find your way to the subway. Really put the edge on the float back home.

I remember seeing this in the early to mid 1970's on the late night movie on WABC-TV, that's likely how long they ran if this was from the '60's.
