  • If the beacons weren't lit for like flipping years wouldn't the people at the becons be dead or not paying attention to a tiny blip in the distance

  • I read "bacons"...maybe cuz I just watched EpicMealTime.

  • @RustyTurban LOL

  • Damn, I wish my volume knob went higher!

  • I'm surprised Sauron never thought to cut off the beacons from one another.

  • Epic bonfires are epic. :D

This is just one of the many scenes that never fails to give me goosebumps. Especially the tension before Theoden declares,"And Rohan will answer. Muster the Rohirrim!"

  • "Beacons of Constantinople are lit! The Greeks call for aid!"

    "And ROME shall answer!"

  • @ItaMick

LOL! how has your comment not been thumbed more. THUMB

  • if anyone cares, the song is "The White Tree"

  • truly amazing song, at the same time showing the incredible beauty of New Zealand

  • aragon runs funny

  • Guard1: I bet you the beacons will be lit today.

Guard 2: If the beacon is lit in the next 24 hours i will suck your dick. Never in my life we ever do anything up here on this cold fucking mountain.

Guard 1: Whats that over there?

    Guard 2: ..........

  • This scene makes me cry!

  • Never stand behind doors when Aragorns around. Quick way to a broken nose.

  • Thank god for email!

  • How the hell do they get up the mountains so fast? Ah, I used to teleport before I took an arrow to the knee.

  • Sauron and Saruman disliked this.

  • What if someone's asleep?

  • Where i live..its a real beacon like this not far away..It got runic writings on the big rocks around it.It was used by my viking forefathers.

  • wonder if it's like brokeback mountain up there after a while...

  • I love the way Aragorn runs..

  • The beacons are awesome sauce.

  • Cheryl Tiegs, Nice

  • And Rohan will screen the call!

  • Great way to send a message a long way in a hurry, if you've only got medieval technology to work with.

  • Best scene of LOTR (without battles) for me.

  • awww the trumpets go up higher at 1:07 epic music though t-bone all the way!!

  • And Rohan Will Answer!

  • the very definition of epicosity

  • When Gandalf rode to Gondor from Rohan, I don't remember all this mountain.

  • @hsiunghsd36bcca read the books.

  • 1:48 aragorn SPAZZED!

  • Ok time to watch LOTR.

  • During the Western Zhou dynasty in China, King You liked to light the beacons to call the armies for the entertainment of his mistress. When he was REALLY attacked, no one showed up to defend and the Western Zhou fell.

  • @grumpyotter the boy who cried wolf much lol?

  • Am i the only one thinking that they have pretty damn reaction time, conisidering that, they're sitting out there in the mountains, do they ALWAYS look at those beacons? :P

  • god bless that Peter Jackson

  • What is the music!

  • epic!

  • Burning wood has never been this epic.

  • @DennisTheCaveman AGREED!!!!! well said

  • whats the name of the song?

  • 2.25

E: jag är lite vilse! kan du visa mig tillbaka till köket!

  • for those who didnt see the map of middle earth or didnt read the book, they comunicate with those beacons because that mountains are the White mountains, which form the border between rohan and gondor..well,minas tirith(first beacon) is to the eastern corner of this mountains, while helms deep is in the opposite corner..and edoras(last beacon) is little eastern than helms deep..

  • 1:02 -> epic

  • Comment removed

  • Best scene in the whole series.

  • Thank god someone wasn't taking a sick day off...

  • song 1:48 - 2:01 ??? (Aragorn runs)

  • it must suck to have that job

  • @Agomongo1235 I always think that when I see that scene

  • 1:03 makes me feel like I can take on all of Mordor myself. EPIC shit.

  • Amondin..

  • Good thing it wasn't raining that day.

  • spectacular scene with one of best pieces in LOTR soundtrack, although, illogical and quite different from book.still love it.

  • Whats the name of tha music at 2.20 min.

  • @Kejsermichael it is the rohan theme..in full it is on the two towers soundtrack, and glimpses are in the ride of the rohirrim..

  • 'see if i have a country, i will build these to stretch across the world and a country that i am allied with shall answer'

  • @ihazzrecon My country will answer.

  • @aceholepictures where you from? :)

  • @ihazzrecon England. But I haven't decided where my country will be yet. Don't worry though, we'll have some mountains suitable for beacons.

  • @aceholepictures omg actually,I'm from Scotland west coast, the beacons could go all the way to London? :D??

  • @ihazzrecon Good plan, we shall reclaim these lands for The People. Muster The Rohirim!

  • @aceholepictures indeed

  • @ihazzrecon

The lighting of beacon fires is something that the soldiers on the great walls of China did...which stretched for thousands of miles. So with a good system, yes it could go all the way to London. :)

  • "...and Rohan will answer. Master the Rohirrim!" \m/

This scene is maybe one of the best achievements in directing in film history. The mountains and the flames as a representation of two countries distanced by selfish egos now allies for what is worth fighting for.

  • Doing anything to this song is amazing. Making a sandwich, sweeping the floor, running a virus scan. Hell, if you fuck your girlfriend to this song...use your imaginations.

  • 0 dislikes :)

  • This bit is so Tolkien and so Wagner at the same time...Absolutely magnificent!

  • Movie Magic

  • i really like the secuence. First music of Gondor. Then Rohan's music at the ending. So epic

  • The most epic part of the film imo

  • "Oh snap light the Beacon! light the Beacon!" .... "Crap we're out of flint. Dammit! do you have any gravel?" .... "Just one block" ... "well we'll have to keep digging it till it gives us one"

  • @error42 lol

  • Why can't gondor just send their messengers to Rohan and ask for help?

  • @nagravaknin Ask Tolkien.

  • @nagravaknin this is faster, thats why

  • @nagravaknin

Because it would be less awesome.

  • My speakers can't go high enough to fully grasp the epicness of this scenes. FUCK YEAH!

  • oh man who sits on those lonely outposts on the top of snowy mountains in the middle of nowhere waiting for the beacons to be lit?

EPIC MUSIC AND EXCELLENT MOVIE thanks for uploading :D

  • the most powerful scene in the movie... it was awe inspiring..

  • i hate pointing out flaws in movies tht i love but how do the beacons on the mountain tops get li?? r ppl living up there w/ the only purpose of lighting the beacon??

    btw cheryl tieggs.......nice

  • @Mariii2771 well since the telefon isn't invented in their time, this is their only means of communication with rohan. I can only guess that those people on the mountains lighting the beacons chose to serve their kingdom this way.. so is it really that strange?

  • @SinnohMasterPaul

ok tht makes sense and im guna sound like an asshole but no shit they didnt have TELEPHONES lol :P q:

  • i have never seen lord of the rings but i just have to know what does the beacons being lit mean

  • @Rudypaolo just watch the movies. It's worth watching. Really.

  • FAMILY GUY!

  • AWesome!

  • Just one word for this EPIC !

  • Dear Diary, it has been 12,861 days since I was posted here. The supply of lembas bread is running low. Still no sign of request for aide...

    Wait...it's the beacon!

  • @JustPhilNY

I suppose that's why those two started dancing for joy at 0:50? :3

  • @JustPhilNY MY WHOLE LIFE HAS WAITED TO LIGHT THIS SHIT!!!!

  • @JustPhilNY Only, they wouldn't have had lembas bread, they would have had cram.

  • @JustPhilNY Not to mention the supply of oxygen is pretty damn low as well...

  • SOME PEOPLE WAIT A LIFETIME, FOR A MOMENT LIKE THIS!!!

  • And Rohan will ANSWER! YEHAAA

  • @Adren12332 Éomer: Damn it, man! I'm a doctor, not a rider!

  • fuck this is epic beyond words

  • i especially like 2:19

  • Who the fuck lives there 1:25??

  • In the early 4th Age the beacons were replaced by heliograph stations manned by the Gondorian Corps of Engineers.

  • @Gwaithmir lies

  • It was awesome how they made this part

  • How the hell do you think they got the wood up to those high peaks??!?!

  • @stukabomber44 lol flying its the only way

  • I lent my DVD to a friend, and when I got it back, this bit was all chopped up. My feelings towards her hardened at that point...

  • @eizhowa lol!

  • Does anyone else think of the logistics involved in maintaining a line of beacons across a huge mountain range with what is little better than iron age technology?

How do they supply those guys up there?(Some of them must be several hundred miles from Gondor.) How long is a tour of duty? Will they light in extreme weather conditions? Are all the beacons on Gondorian territory? And if not, are they manned by Gondorians or by men from those countries?

Don't get me started on Rivendell...

  • @ishtarg8 You have a hut on the mountain. You have a weapon to kill animals. People today are just plain helpless. People used to live for months on the mountains herding the sheep during summer. This was common only a 100 years ago.

  • @eizhowa

Alright, but that raises other questions. In that kind of terrain, parties of two are the minimum that should really move around together. So you need to man the station with at least three. How hard is it to hunt for three people , in that kind of rocky, inhospitable country? Everything they eat is going to have to come from lower down. They could be gone a while. Which means it's probably smart to have two at the beacon hut, as well.

  • @eizhowa

Also, think about your line, "in the summer". These dudes have to be there all the time. Agreed, they can hunt in summertime, but what do they do if they're snowed in for five months?

Plus there's clearly no fail safe to ensure the signal they see is properly authorised. That seems a bit short sighted. They could be mustering the Rohirrim because someone slipped and accidentally lit the first beacon.

  • @ishtarg8 Fine. If your nation was under attack and needed help, what would you do? I'd use beakons and you would die:)

  • @ishtarg8 And btw, I think it is a brilliant idea. Also, have you heard of treaties? That would allow them to stay on foreign ground.

  • legolas, aragorn and eomer <3

  • This is real music, not that "noise" that passes as music these days.

  • Cette scène est parfaite au cinema sur grand écran :D

  • does any1 know the name of the song at the very end?

  • @johnnydee92 "The Lighting of the Beacons" it's all one song.

  • LOTR is the story of my life, nothing will ever come close to it

  • finally a HQ version of this. the rest of them are made by spastics who dub their own retarded music over it. Praise qccvids

  • Fuck yeah is Rohan gonna answer :)

Incredible landscapes though, i remember watching this in the cinema, i'd gladly fall off one of those mountains just to be there.

  • this was before the age of black berry messenger

  • Such brotherhood is hard to come by in a land like America -- where the quick dollar is all...

  • When I ma feeling down this music is nothing but inspiration :)

  • I remember myself weeping from excitement and joy while seeing this for the first time in the cinema, it was just larger than life :)

  • One of the most powerful moments in cinema's history, just beautiful.

  • I wonder how did studio get the idea of this scene, its so unbelievable!!!

btw, wanna know how do the people in charge of the beacons make a living, isolated on the lonely peaks

  • @rachelsp6

"I wonder how did studio get the idea of this scene"

    It was in the book.

"wanna know how do the people in charge of the beacons make a living, isolated on the lonely peaks"

They would have to be supplied and resupplied by their kingdoms. But, seriously, maintaining that system for even a year, much more centuries, in all weather would be virtually impossible from a survival point of view, so don't ask so many questions.

    :P

Kidding. Ask whatever you like, Rachel.

  • @ChristophDollis Well I meant the idea of visual effects, camera moves etc.Companied with splended symphony, sweeping over mountains and sea-like clouds, awesome and jawdropping.

Yeah I was kidding too when I asked.:P But frankly I just broused thru the books so I must have missed many details cuz I'm Chinese and I don't think the Chinese version very good, while on the other hand Tolkien's vocabulary is a little too difficult for me...I'm far more familiar with movies than books though.

  • Couldn't they have just emailed Rohan honestly. Joking my favorite scene.

  • this is the most beautiful moment in cinema period

  • Oh yes! Finally a clip with some awesome Aragorn-Door action! Phwaor!

  • honestly I shed happiness tears the first time I saw this scene, it was so moving

  • it would of been funny if aragorn fell when he was running to tell everyone the becons were lit.

  • The bacons are lit! Good Appetite everybody!

  • good thing there wasn't any rain

  • He is not stupid the king of Rohan, but hen again the kings of

old seldom were whith some spectacular exceptions.

  • What if something like this appeared throughout the world: Northern Spain, Portugual, Bosnia, Rawanda, France, Japan, Equador.. This is what the world needs to communicate. So much more epic than our modern era of cell phones!

  • @TheDesertland In my country we had them in the old days

along the coast, when an invasionfleet was sighted they

were lit, the meant only one thing, invasion imminent!

  • didnt the romans use pires as signals over the Alps?

  • who lives on those mountains xD
