I loved the Aussie version with true comedians playing roles they wrote for themselves ... just classic ... having said that, the US version introduced me to Selma Blair and I haven't been the same since. One other part of why the original Aussie series was so good was the addition of Magda Szubanski who some Americans may recognise from her role in "Babe" ... also worth a mention too is Peter Rowsthorn who is also an accomplished comedian.
Yes it was different than the Aussie version, but personally I liked the change. I think it better represented Americans with our abundance of overindulged spoiled princess daughters and delusional fashionista Moms. I think perhaps this show hit too close to home. This was my favorite show...soooo disappointed when it was cancelled!
She needs to be overweight like the average American - what is it about the Yanks that can't deal with their own reality and realize it's comic potential. This is why it was a hit in Australia - English precedents, self deprecating and cutting - so you offend a few people? Everyone else will be laughing - generally at themselves, Doesn't sit well with American aren't WE the greatest thing nicey nice gun tot'n cowboy bullshit that the rest of the us have to put up with.
Watch the Australian original and then it will be clear , as will the reason this American replica died a dismal death critically and in the ratings after one season. Why would you cast Selma Blair in the role of a lower middle class slapper?? Watch the original parody by Gina Riley, a comedian well into her 40s.
Kim's got no class.
