There is a mexican version of this song, performed by Timbiriche. Too bad, I never hear credits given to Frida, Bjorn and Benny, when the song is played on TV or on the radio. Including "Academia de la Musica" (Television Azteca, Mexico), they have used this song several times during last few years - it has been performed by their students, and credits always go to Timbiriche, not to ex-abba.
I really think the English version of this song is much better. Frida and Gemin can do this song really good but the original Spanish version is bad.. the new Spanish version is better and more rad...... but there's nothing like the English one
congratulations ABBALOOK, for this great and excellent job of yours,, it's a wonderful music, i loved your video!!! i love FRIDA & ABBA!! hugs for if you're a man and a kiss for you if you're a woman. from: kiko, in brazil
mojpredal 'Slowly' was written in 1983 (the year ABBA split) and it was released in 1984. 'Slowly' was going to be on their 9th album due to be released in 1983. ABBA split in 1983 and it was not released until it appeared on Frida's album 'Shine'.
You're right about the year, it was 84 indeed, but the rest is still true. This is what CM Palm writes about it in his ABBA-Bright Lights Dark Shadows :
"B&B also contributed one of their left-overs from the Chess writing sessions, a mid-tempo ballad called Slowly. To-day it's the last new A/U composition either of Abba's female half has recorded." So definitely no Agnetha anywhere around. Whether the song was ever going to be an Abba song I could't tell.
@newkhameleon grupitos? ihihihi i like this expression...after all abba have billions of fans around the world right? ahahahah specially frida (L)...sooo i think you choosed the right word (y) fica a dica
proto1type I think I know Agnetha's voice when I hear it. Agnetha is definately doing backing vocals on Slowly also this is the ABBA version which was going to be on their 1983 album (9th Album). Everyone listen to this and tell me it is Agnetha.
Have you got the album from which this recording is taken ? If not you are in no position to tell me I am wrong. Think what you like. As I pointed out, this was a solo recording from Frida from an album with which no other member(s) of Abba or their recording team had any input. Except for B & B allowing Frida to record the song "Slowly" which was shelved when they decided their 1982 sessions would not yield an album and afterwards disbanded.
Problem of them, tantoa FRida since(a agnetha were singing apart from ABBA or not wise jajjajajaja East is afraid sung by Frida it is the best ok undoubtedly
You may indeed have the album, but you obviously have not read the sleeve notes attentively. B & B wote the song as you will see. But also note "Kirsty McColl & Simon Climie Backing Vocals" The former appears courtesy of Stiff Records. Do you not find it strange that Agnetha (IF she were singing on this album) would not be credited as appearing courtesy of Polar Music International AB, with whom she was signed at the time ? ADMIT YOU ARE MISTAKEN. Stop annoying me with your silly "observations"
@2038165479 In 1984 ABBA intended to get back togather and do another album after thier year and half off from each other. But it was Agnetha that held off. She wanted to record another english album in which she did 'Eyes Of A Woman". Slowly was intended to be on that album as well as some other rare recodings that was later rewritten for 'Chess'
@meadeser Not at all true. 1984 Benny and Bjorn were involved in the CHESS European tour. There was never any plans for an ABBA reunion in 1984, and in 1985 there were some early "thoughts" but instead they pressed on with the CHESS project and gave their discarded CHESS compositions to the brother/sister duo Gemini.
One of which was Slowly that they'd previously gave to Steve Lillywhite (and his wife Kirsty Maccoll who provided backing vocals) for Frida to record a year earlier.
@woutch The European Chess took place November 1984. I did get a little of bit wrong. ABBA'S intention back 1982 was to give the band a break and persue other stuff like the girls doing solo work and B & B doing Chess with Tim Rice. I have 3 books on ABBA and 1 book says they intended to start up the band again in late 1984 another one says 1986 and it was in 1986 Agnetha had no interest in getting back with the band. There was talk between the 4 members but we all know the rest is history.
@meadeser I spoke to Bjorn in 1986, and there were never any plans and he categorically told me that they would not be coming back together. The books you read are filled with pure speculation. The only accurate author is Carl Magnus Palm who tells the facts as they accurately were. ABBA did, indeed, take a break in 1983, but as early as January 1984 it became apparent that there would be no more ABBA and the break would last forever. They just never really came out and said so.
@2038165479 Agnetha's not singing on this track, just Frida's dynamic voice at its best. Imagine the hype about the song there'd have been if Agnetha did sing on the track - people would've thought that ABBA were back.
Agnetha is definately doing the backing vocals in this song especially at the end of the song where the lyrics are slowly, slowly, slowly. Slowly was written in 1983 the year ABBA split. This was definately recorded in 1983 as both Agnetha & Frida are doing vocals for this track.
I have the album "Shine" from which "Slowly" is taken. Agnetha had absolutely no part in any of the recordings.
The voice you hear at the end is that of the late Kirsty McColl. She (Kirsty) also wrote/co-wrote with Simon Climie(Remember ClimieFisher ?) many of the albums' tracks. Great song, written during the sessions for what was to be ABBA's "Opus 10" which, as we all know, sadly never came to fruition.
Finally. With Frida singing a song written by B&B almost four years after ABBA ceased to exist as a group this is the closest to what Abba might have sounded like in 1986 when this song was released. Although many criticts accused B&B devoid of their creative power in post-ABBA productions, this is probably one of the strongest pieces in their repertoire.
SLOWLY is a great song. In my opinion the superior version was recorded by Gemini. I admit I'm an ABBAfan so the fact the magicians B & B produced it for Gemini may be the reason for my love. You can find SLOWLY on Gemini's compilation from 2005, "Gemini - det bästa med Karin och Anders Glenmark" which includes JUST LIKE THAT too.

Indeed Kirsty Maccoll did the backing vocalls and she did it very good too.
Agnetha was doing her own thing in that time.
Frida is the best!

Allthough Agnetha has a beautiful voice too, I must admit Frida was always my favorite such a beautiful warm voice. Thanx for posting this.
