The technical definition of both of these are men who adduct their vocal folds by thinning the non-muscular tissue on the folds. This produces a falsetto quality. Every voice is different, and it is true that Jaroussky has a more effeminate quality to his falsetto than other famous countertenors. This has nothing to do with technique, but rather a thinner fold state when singing.

@ged424 Actually, not all CTs use FALSETTO. Some sing in their natural unbroken voices but for convience they all are called CTs. And in general it's not very important who uses falsetto and who doesn't. This theory about membranes and epiglottis, and also when singers use their head voice, chest, mix isn't important either for LIVE MUSIC. Only for specialists in THEORY of music. There are TRUE male sopranos like Marian, Maniacci, Ryabets who SHARE THEIR SOUL and not just ENTERTAIN with SOUNDS!

The problem with Jaroussky is that after hearing him I can't bear to listen to Alfred Deller anymore and no longer so interested in David Daniels. Jaroussky's voice and vocal abilities are just what you hope for in a countertenor.

people need to understand conductor and performers usually go a little over dramatic in doing their work in a recording studio. They are able to produce the best sound that way. When conductor go over-dramatic in conducting, messages get across easier to the performer, thus, the quality of recording is better.
Simply, I don´t stand this director so banal, cheaply spectacular. We had enough watching such a beautiful voice (and good singer) performing strange movements (but he has a lot of... excuses to do so), to have to stand those silly directors. (There´s another video of Jaroussky, with a female conductor doing the same ridiculous things but, I don´t know, this beautiful boy seems that arise around him all kind of stupid conductors. Isn´t there anything better on Barroque conductors???

But still there's a big difference between a classically trained OPERA singer and a POP singer performing classical stuff. If for you there's no difference between e.g. Brightman and Flemming, Bocelli and Pavarotti, too bad for you as they made opera POP opera, and there are other singers who still employ true technique and serve the ART and not the market. PJ is just a pop FALSETTIST. It's different.

About four months ago, when checking Jaroussky for the first time on youtube, I ran for the first time upon Serenaluce's derogatory comments about PJ. And the refrain is always the same, not enough Human Emotion (that's subjective) and PJ is not Manly (in capitals) enough. What the hell does that even mean? Looks to me like Serenaluce should give up his/her obsession with PJ and move on.

In modern classical usage, there is no difference between a falsettist (one who uses the falsetto) and a countertenor. A male soprano would be the correct alternative term. Art, being entirely subjective, does not exist or not exist based on your opinion, it exists for those who value it. The things that allow singers to sing are the vocal folds, not cords, and referring to his tits makes you sound pompous.

@serenaluce The difference you are citing between countertenors and falsettists is entirely imaginary. The technical definition of both of these are men who adduct their vocal folds by thinning the non-muscular tissue on the folds. This produces a falsetto quality. Every voice is different, and it is true that Jaroussky has a more effeminate quality to his falsetto than other famous countertenors. This has nothing to do with technique, but rather a thinner fold state when singing.

The main thing is the impression singers make on listeners, and not how they use their non-muscular tissue on the folds. It says absolutely nothing. @ged424 Actually, not all CTs use FALSETTO. Some sing in their natural unbroken voices but for convience they all are called CTs. And in general it's not very important who uses falsetto and who doesn't. This theory about membranes and epiglottis, and also when singers use their head voice, chest, mix isn't important either for LIVE MUSIC. Only for specialists in THEORY of music. There are TRUE male sopranos like Marian, Maniacci, Ryabets who SHARE THEIR SOUL and not just ENTERTAIN with SOUNDS!

As an American, I have to agree w/ you. We have/are raised with so many psychosexual blocks & issues, all of which really prevent us from experiencing & enjoying true beauty on the scale of M. Jaroussky.
I'm a countertenor, too, &, I was just looking around & found him by accident.
What a revelation!!!
His voice is angelic, erotic & highly educated.
If one can't appreciate all of that, they are to be pitied, no question.

The guy has a high singing voice. His speaking voice is low. Yeah, they're French, but that's no reason to assume they're doing each other.

people need to understand conductor and performers usually go a little over dramatic in doing their work in a recording studio. They are able to produce the best sound that way. When conductor go over-dramatic in conducting, messages get across easier to the performer, thus, the quality of recording is better.

Simply, I don´t stand this director so banal, cheaply spectacular. We had enough watching such a beautiful voice (and good singer) performing strange movements (but he has a lot of... excuses to do so), to have to stand those silly directors. (There´s another video of Jaroussky, with a female conductor doing the same ridiculous things but, I don´t know, this beautiful boy seems that arise around him all kind of stupid conductors. Isn´t there anything better on Barroque conductors???

According to my inquiries, this sadly enough seems to be the case. I've been informed by the higher-ups that "freedom of expression" is a right, even if it is abused, or tends to be abusive and offensive to others, although the general guidlines seem to counteract this. Interesting. Not allowing this would undermine the usefulness of YouTube as a social studies forum. At that rate, I guess I will have to accept the stink in the air, since I cannot just remove the filth factory itself. Logical?
