The Yakuza story I'm not sure about, and even Kaicho has never said so. He did have an attempt on his life (shot from behind) and the only person to ever threaten him publically was Oyama. If he ordered a hit on Kaicho, he took that to the grave. It was speculatd that it was an over-zealous Kyokushin student looking for revenge for his master likely w/o Oyama's consent.
HeroCasey seemes to have some bias. There is no denying that Kaicho Nakamura is a great fighter in his own right and has earned this 9th dan by impartial judges (unlike Oyama). Kaicho was his best student, his youngest shodan and his US proxy. Kaicho's account is that Kyokushin was more interested in top athletes that teaching karate to all in the traditional Japanese style. To call him a racist is just stupid.; he trains EVERYONE and has said he owed Mas Oyama much too.
@HeroCasey This style is very effective, I know lots of guys from Seido who work as bouncers, often working the rougher bars. Their training from that style has made them efficient (both verbally and physically).
The sparring does involve full-contact, but as kolsyrade stated, the vast majority of competitions are not knockdown.
HeroCasey It is Kyokushin. Nakamura left Kyokushin cause he was and still is an Elitist Japanese wannabe samurai who was racist against Sosai cause Sosai was Korean. he took everything Sosai taught him, and called it Seido. But it's just Kyokushin Light. He also calls it a non-profit. yeah Right! Oh and he claims that Sosai sent yakuza to kill him but he survived. Everyone knows Yakuza finish what they start sooner or later. Seido guys cant fight. I met him a few times and he is a cocky midget
I was fortunate to be taught by both when They split from Kyokushin. as mention in this thread the full contact aspect back then made for a high drop out rate but to go through that training made you a very tough fighter.
@HeroCasey The formal part of the style is very similar to kyokushin, but unfortunately they have more or less abandoned full contact sparring and competing (although Im sure there are still the occasional hard core old school fighter somewhere) , focusing instead on light contact sparring and zen meditation.
In my opinion that abandonment of fullcontact/knockdown sparring have cost them a lot.
@kolsyrade Martial arts isn't about who is the best fighter, we focus more on the spiritual side of martial arts instead of who can knock someone out
@ange1os Personally I want my karate to be as effective as possible. That means learning how to use it practically, which in turn means hard sparring, and lots of it. If I want to meditate I can learn that separately instead of learning it as a sideproduct of learning a fighting style.
I lament Nakamura mellowing in his old age from the firebrand fighter he was when he fought in Thailand as a youth, but If that is what he wants... ok.
@kolsyrade not all dojos do point sparring, i'm glad we don't. i think its become a problem because of insurance policies, lucky enough in NZ we dont have to worry about that
Ive met Kaicho. I love seido karate, i was actually a brown adv. I havent been doin karate for like 6 years though. When i turn 18 and get the money to move im guna do karate over again.

@Karateforlife777 Like anyone is gonna believe that. You're a moron and it's obvious you know nothing about Seido or Nakamura.

@Karateforlife777 you said that you called him a "cocky midget?" to his face, maybe you should have called William Oliver a "cocky midget!?" ROFLMAO!
actually, as with many, they split from kyokushin due to politics and money
