holy shit.... 1:16 i thought you were gonna be gone.... Ive heard a number of stories about inflation failure on the early Xbirds. Glad youre alive man. Not everyone gets a seconds chance like that.. Wish you the best
Yooooooo man good on ya! I shitted me self for a second AND when you got near the face of the mountain afetr you pulled. cool on ya man. Happy you're still breathing and it's all right!
@cainlocc1 I could have one chance no have no twist, and I will prefer! But I've pulled on my back and on the other hand at bottom of the cliff there is a gorge where wind was blowing (ventury acceleration) so my canopy was caught by this wind which was making a vortex from the gorge to the wall... normally in with a bASE canopy, twist stop when it full opened, but here the twist didn't stop due to the ventury wind and that's why I came back in the wall too!
sounds like you need to make some carbon inserts to put in the vent so its impossible to close would be very easily designed and being carbon wont close under any wind pressure
great video - thanks for putting it out there. The canopy brushing against the wall was something pretty special. Glad it worked out good in the end for you. p.s. Is there anything that can be done to prevent such a problem as this?
@mrkarlhey Hi, I made a big expertise about this accident to know why it happened. The conclusion is that there is a major mistake in the design concept of the arm wing vent... the vent could close itself accidentally!!! At begenning of flight it is mortal! I will post soon a video to show how it could happened easilly. Thanks.
@jbrinkman86 The start is always a critical situation and at the beggenning arms wings are prior in the first 4 seconds. Here the right one didn't inflate but left one very quickly. When I felt that Iam going little right I've pushed down on right arm wing to correct but I didn't know that it was not inflate. Pushing down had increase the unbalance of my wingsuit and I went head down in barrell. Yes the best would have been to close left one, I couldn't suspect a such situation.
My gosh, I nearly fell out of my chair watching that.
Glad you survived and are in one piece, including those huge, massive balls you must have. I just about peed myself on the sky deck at the Willis Tower in Chicago . Just standing on top of The Aragon wall would give me a heart attack.
I really admire people like you who can do that kind of thing. Thanks for sharing the video of your adventure.
mate you are my new hero . well done for staying calm. this could have happended to anyone jumping a larger suit, but I will always advise to buy PF suits... Robi is just far more experienced at basejumping and WS design. incredible footage and nerves of steel ! cheers and keep it up !
@nicolasecarnot Nico je suis très mauvais au jeu (malheureusement pour compte en banque), par contre j'ai un fort instinct de survie et surement une très bonne étoile aussi... :-)
Wow Scary. In those suits you can bend your knees as reach up immediately to help get your heading. Also I gotta give it up to you to steer through the line twists to miss the cliff by . . well to not hook your canopy on the wall and start the pounding that a wall strike will give you. I'm glad you were not injured. Now you can have a Happy Christmas.
Goes to show that given gear failure or any other crazy situation, that it is better to be "lucky" rather than "good" any day of the week. Your canopy *just* missing the cliff wall was the most beautiful thing I've seen on the internet today.
Congrats that you have survived the arm wing infaltion malfunction. You had much luck not going into the cliff. I am happy that nothing happend to you. I can recommend Phoenix-Fly ;-)
If we meet us somewhere, sometime ... you will get a beer for your second birthday from me :-)
