Nice job. The P-38 looks good no matter what color it is. I saw a in a magazine a few years ago and for fun somebody painted a model F-22 Raptor all red and put the Yippee decals on it.
Geez... Picky, picky... I believe Yippee was the 5000th airframe built, and used as mainly an air demo... I'll accept the color as close enough. Props are correct direction too... Good enough for me!! :)
You should learn to respect the other people's choices and likings. Ok you don't like special markings, it's your opinion and I can understand it, but it isn't a reason to qualify it of puke. I would also say that you show a lack of respect for the workers who decided to paint this plane like this and the test pilotes who flew it.
@freiherrudet I believe it was to celebrate the end of the war with Japan, it could have also been the certain number of aircraft built like the 100th or something howver I do belive it was to celebrate the war's end!
@papa12213 thanks. sounds likely, yeah. the photo I have of it is almost red, like this. but that's due to the quality of film back then I guess becuae the caption said it was international orange! what a bird.
@SVTCOBRA4U if you loved the colour pink and decided to paint your aircraft pink and someone said something what would you say hmmm... its my plane my choice stop being a moron.
The props are rotating in the correct direction. Only the XP-38 had props rotating inwards (towards) the cockpit at the top of rotation. The YP-38 and all later variants rotated away from the cockpit at the top of the prop arc.
The fact that the wind blew the props in the correct direction means that the pitch direction of the props is accurate in the kit.
Yes, it was a special marking applied at the factory for the 5000th P-38 made. This P38 was then repainted in a combat camouflage and send to New Guinea if I good remember.
Hasegawa are frequently the best choice for a 1/72 scale fighter, but ALWAYS the most expensive. They don't get every plane they make 100% right. What is great though is when another company e.g. Revell sells their kits under licence (i.e. Saab Draken) for a lot less money.
Academy is my current all round favourite for detail and accuracy, and value for money.
for a static display, looks pretty good actually.

The engines sound like radial engines and not Allison 1710's.

@slake21609
I took the sound of a P38 warbird video I found on youtube.

@Jeffologue My mistake. They just sounded a lot like a P&W. Either way it sounded awesome.

'Yippee' was a P-38 with that color, I think for war bond stuff or something.

Nice counter rotating props, too bad they are going the wrong way! XD

It was wind's rules XD

@Snobbstech777 Sorry to say but you are wrong in your comment. You should watch some footage of real P-38's

Does anybody know what happened to the real Yippee?
Phantomrig 2 years ago
Yes, Hasegawa and Tamyia are the most expensive and with Revell and Academy you have a good price/quality ratio for many modells.
Jeffologue 2 years ago
It's the real sound of P38 Lightning starting its engines. I took the sound of a P38 warbird video I found on youtube.
Jeffologue 2 years ago
Good work! I don't know why it has such a low rating.
Was 'Yippee' a special production plane i. e. the 1000th P-38 made or something?
GerbilEssences 2 years ago
Thank you GerbilEssences.

So this is a flying model?
GerbilEssences 2 years ago
No it's a static model. The propellers turned thanks the wind and I added the sound of a P38 warbird starting its engines.

What scale?
GerbilEssences 2 years ago
1/48 scale from hasegawa if I good remember build by one of my father's friend.
