my dads got an old intellivision stashed away somewhere, i think i saw this game in the box he keeps it in. This was years and years ago, i remember playing his old intellivision when i was a kid back in the mid 90's. well past intellivisions time obviously.
Are the mazes random? Do the skulls mean that you're not going in the right direction? I tried to find a more in-depth guide for this game but I've only been able to find text versions of the instructions.
Yeah, pairs of dots means a rat/lizard is nearby (usually guarding a quiver of arrows), the strange three-pointed tracks means a demon's nearby, and the snake can only be heard from the hissing from nearby.
This game made awesome use of sound. The way you could identify the different monsters by their noises from a room away... and then they'd still scare the crap out of you when you came up to them. Pretty suspenseful... almost a forerunner of survival horror.
I couldn't agree more. Remember those blue demons? They didn't make any sound. And when your character is injured it makes that horrible growling sound. I was about 5 or 6 and it had me jumping.
lol.. maybe its the built up pressure in those narrow underground dungeons that cause mini-vortexes of fleshy man bits and teeth to form when killed by arrow
That Intellivison you had as a first console with interchangeable games since you were a kid...It must still be working good for you. Even with the Intellivision being an advanced system with a number of good games, I'll always perfer the Atari 2600 over it, since for me, it is the more appealing system.
It seems that Advanced Dungeons & Dragons is another game that is difficult to master the controls, even with high intelligence such as yours. It also looked like you didn't know if you had arrows or not at times. I gotta say, though, the mapping and animations were "advanced" for their time!
Ummmm . . . I remember this game. My buddy Kenny had Intellivision but I hardly ever got to play. It's hard to imagine enjoying it now given the quality of the games we have today. I'll probably be saying the same about todays games 25 years from now!
I'd love to find a remake. This was one of my favorites, along with Sea Battle. Fortunately, I still have my Intellivision, it still works and I have a cope of D&D. I never did finish this game, though. Hmmm...gives me something to do this weekend. LOL
i remember watching my dad play this when i was little. he only let me and my sister play horse racing. i could never figure out the controller back then anyway.
Is there an emulator and rom for this that works?

lol if you start with the blue monster footprints right away, just hit the reset button

This had to be the best Intellevision game. It still stands up as very playable today, 28 years later.

The purple mountain should only be attempted by players that really have their practice in. I have beat it only a handful of times. Awesome video.

I have been hunting for this game in the newer hand held multi gaming device. Does it exist? We used to play this for HOURS back in the early 80s!

Another of my all time favourite Intellivision games. I still play this one even today.

How do you stop those creatures from owning you?
wondeboy12 3 years ago
hold down the side buttons, it allows the character to run faster than the monsters on all levels but the top speed (and even then its a close race)

Thanks for posting that! Was that you playing? I still have an Intellevision in the garage, but it's in pretty bad shape I think.

Yes, they're random. The skulls are a marker that there is a dragon(?) around. Other makers indicate other enemies.

Oh, cool. Like animal tracks and such. Neat :) Dare I say in some ways this game has features other games would benefit from :)

Cool. Even the tabletop game might benefit from that level of detail... at least with some DMs :)

thanks for the gameplay video, not bad for the time, though the world map made little sense to me, but oh well...

Does anyone know of an update/remake of this classic?

I LOVE this game. I used to think that the sound effects were so eerie when I was a kid!
This guy hasn't figured out that tracks and turds signal the appearance of enemies... I mean, c'mon!

Is that what those were? I had no idea. Guess that's why I stunk at the game too!
Adventurestud 4 years ago
:) Just be grateful that the game has such unrealistic graphics. Personally, I wouldn't want to see piles of realistic looking poo!

Nothing like being out of arrows and getting chased by the rat who just takes forever to kill you.
