  • watch Kali basic - search "Latrago Kali"

  • @latragokali I did, & they're very helpful. The thing is, as you can see, this was taken years ago, & is also how I understood the basics. There are a lot of kali/arnis/escrima systems & family lineages that, it becomes so hard for beginners to choose how to do their basics =/, w/c is why I demonstrated the "general" overview in the video for them to begin understanding the very core basics of the stick arts. Mine's (family lineage) the very basic of Balintawak.

  • @Loyal2law I appreciate all Kali styles ... all fun to watch :)

  • How do you have time to stretch/warm up in a real life situation?

  • @staringintotheabyss So, warm up/stretches aren't part of martial arts anymore =P? Use more logic.

  • @Loyal2law My question was more based on the situation that you'd have to use the stick methods to defend yourself, one wouldn't have time for a warm-up, so that are the risks of actually not warming up?

  • @staringintotheabyss It's obvious that you don't warm up/stretch to defend yourself, 'cause you'll be in a life/death situation. The warm ups/stretches should be regularly done in solo practice/any kind of martial practice when done solo. Doing solo, not only prevents you from injury, but also prepares your body for a God-forbidden situation, so that you can use your body's full potential in defending yourself.

  • @Loyal2law Well I wasn't really talking about a life/death situation, just one where you'd have to defend yourself. I was curious of the risks of not stretching. Do you risk damaging your wrist?

  • @staringintotheabyss Depending on the situation. Most likely you will, but by warming up/stretching during your training, it lessens the injury, simply because it helps your wrists from getting used to the stress of using the stick, especially doing sudden movements like the snapping of the abaniko and things of that nature.

  • @Loyal2law Thank you

  • @staringintotheabyss You're very welcome =D!

  • bamboo? I haven't seen anyone use bamboo as escrima sticks. the truth is there are many kinds of wood which we use to make sticks, kamagong is the best second is bahi, and rattan is for everyday training.

  • @arnoldarceo True =3. I forgot to mention that the sticks were for training purposes XD. Thanks for watching =D!

  • @Loyal2law What style of arnis do you train in? nice vid by the way

  • @arnoldarceo Thank you XD. As far as I can remember, it's under the Balintawak lineage, though I wasn'ty able to stay longer to study it further =/

  • You're very welcome, & thank you =D! I am humbled that you liked my videos =3. I shall continue to share =3.

  • well said & explained in great detailed ;)

  • Thank you =3! I'm humbled by a lot of people understanding the explanation =3.

  • the most basic thing is to hold the stick one inch from its butt/edge. So there will be no opening to defend from your attack regarding the way you hold. Also it transfers the whole weight of the stick at the tip.

  • Expert/master Arnis/Kali/Escrima practicioners also prefer Kamagong or Mabolo wood as a weapon or other "iron" wood variants(so called iron wood because they said those are used as nails during the old times)... I even see the founder of Yaw-Yan(on a portrait) having two kamagong sticks if I am not mistaken. The Kamagong is cool because it is dark :D

Kamagong and other iron wood is heavy but so durable it does not bend on harsh circumstances unlike rattan and bamboo(which cracks).

  • Always appreciate martial artists who're more knowledgeable on their specialties =3. Thank you for wisdom =3!

  • Hello Loyal, I loved your video as I have some and my knowledge is limited, I wanted to be able to figure 8 them both arms following each other.

  • Thank you =3! We'll get into that in the near future XD. I want to point out a lot of the mistakes that beginners make first, as well as clearing up the confusion that some have as well, before going there, since a lot of the people I knew injure themselves trying to practice those w/o even having solid basics =/. Hopefully, by September, we'll be covering the figure 8 =3.
