  • i wish i lived in an area that has that opening!

  • emncaity dont know about you but to answer your question, not me!!!

  • Has anyone ever noticed how nice and green everything in the scenery is during the opening theme song to this show

until they get to the end where they show the inn? When they show the inn there are no leaves on the trees and it is definitely late fall or winter.

  • love this it is so relaxing comforting. where did all the good times go?

  • @sabercorp55

Into rap, aggression, vulgarity, and snark. Aren't we better off now?

  • the same Mancini who wrote Moon River?

  • @TheCoreContingency

    That's the one.

  • I don't know if my hearing is playing tricks on me but I think Henry Mancini's theme for Newhart is reworked from an earlier score he composed for "The Moneychangers" which can also be heard on YouTube. The amazing thing is the orchestrations which give them a totally different feel.

  • I remember watching this after its national TV run on the now defunct Family Channel. It was on at 5PMish. When we got NIckelodeon in 1997 on cable, they were airing it, but not long afterwards they took it off (that was about the time they started to air "The Wonder Years" on a regular basis :-)). I'm not as die hard of this show as some, but it was a good show!

  • "HI, I'm Larry; this is my brotherr Darrel, this is my otherr brotherr Darrel..."

  • @handymandan100 WIN! :-D

  • When I started listening to this, it literally took my breath. I havent heard it in so long. Memories of going next door to my mom & dad's with my 2 boys, who were only toddlers then and watching tv with them. My mom on the couch and my dad in "his" chair. Always so warm and inviting and cozy there. Gosh, how I do miss them, and those happy days.

  • @boxerdogs11 - What a bitter/sweet memory. My dad always loved "Newhart" and I can still hear him laughing when he tried to tell us the story about "the poker game", an early episode on this series. I miss him, too. Funny how music can repopulate your mind with memories without even trying.

  • @TypesALot Another great "memory" show is M*A*S*H*. He loved that show so much, and we spent countless hours laughing so hard watching it. I still watch it on TV Land.

  • @TypesALot - My family had actually moved to a small town like this in Upstate New York, though, and for the longest time, as soon as I would hit the village limits, I could hear this song in my head. My dad loved MASH, too...My favorite ep is the one whee they are playing poker and Radar accidentally runs over the guy Kim Luck; it's one of the ones with McLean Stevenson and Larry Linville, etc. Hysterically funny! My sister will call me and say, "The one with the poker game's on!" LOL

  • @smokes2468 I think it's because Henry Mancini wrote it.

  • Best theme song ever!!!!!

  • Henry Mancini is GOD!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. Loved the theme and the show as well.

  • meow

  • @boofdfast I wondered what car that was........ man your good! How can you tell?

  • @boofdfast Maybe its in the Smithsonian Museum.

  • Loved this theme and loved the show!

  • No show has ever made me want to move to Vermont (from Canada) like this one.

  • Lovely tune, from a screamingly funny program. As funny as his original show, but even zanier. Gotta love Bob Newhart.

  • Brad Tries... :)

  • QUIET!!!!! (If you don't get that joke, then you have no knoledge of T.V. history.)

  • They used outtakes from On Golden Pond for that sequence so themaytagrepairman has it right.

  • One of the best TV themes!

  • Vermont is really beautiful in the fall !

  • Hard to believe that this is 25 years old!!! I remember when my family first moved to a small town, when i would enter the village limits, I would hear this song in my head, and still do!! Wow!! Time sure flies.

  • Allways did love Henry Mancini's music. if you look close enough, twards the end, It looks like Henry Fonda and Kathren Hepburn in thier brown Oldsmobile Delta 88 on thier way to Golden Pond.

  • God Bless Hank Mancini for this lovely piece. Among others, of course. :)

  • The opening credits were filmed in and near Center Sandwich, New Hampshire (Lakes Region)

  • That theme is very peaceful, puts me in a relaxing sleep : ) zzzzzz.......
