@sortman94 Cairns was the nail in McCarthy coffin, he mouthed off to Cairns all year, doing the chicken flapping, flexing his bicep. I was at the Garden when Cairns finally got a hold on his ass and beat him silly.
@mrceebees14 I saw a clip from a game which showed that it was shit disturber Fluery who was doing that chicken flapping (on McCarthy's behalf) and mouthing off at Cairns.
Wasn't a good one for us, but the fights on the ice and in the stands that year reminded me of the Cup years when these two teams used to go at it real bad.
@lakeerie90s Fleury did the Chicken flapping in the teams first meeting that year, then at the Garden McCarthy was doing it to him.
Cairns didn't have to fight in the game at the Garden, we had a 4-0 lead in the first period, McCarthy was just trying to get the team going. The Isles learned their lesson from the previous meeting when we had a 4-1 lead and blew that because Cairns and others decided to take stupid penalties.

@mrceebees14 mccarthy career was pretty well over at the time of the brashear beating in Oct 2002. but I still think he declined after leaving Calgary (except for 1 good season in 99/2000). in his Calgary days he had ~20 fights per season (except 97) and lost only 1 or 2 per year. In 98/99 with tampa he had fewer fights but lost 4 times including Cote and Laus. good year in 99/2000, but then in 00/2001 he lost as often as he won including losses to Fedoruk, McKenzie, brad may (yikes).

No and I have no love for Brashear, he is a fucking block head.
