  • Dude 4:55 the chorus frogs are going insane!!

  • a symbiotic relationship, the algae produce energy and transfer it somewhat to the eggs and in the meantime the eggs provide a safe and stable place and protien for the algae to feed on, mutualism, and after the eggs are gone the algae can feed and soon it is time for another brood to be protected.

  • @trumpicana - you're a fucking low-life and I'm going to verbally bitch slap you all over the place

  • @joefarah06 good luck with that

  • There is a place you can check. Except it's in Northern Illinois. I found a huge group of them down Rainbow Road in the long grass. What an amazing sound.

  • hey what/when/where is the best time to go: herping for snakes and herping for amphibians? i live in jersey by the way. . .

  • Great video, i took a trip up to snake road yesterday doing some herping and there where an unbeleivable amount of lepard frogs all over the road.

  • yea southern IL is so full of those guys that it is hard to drive on some roads after rain.

  • @Reebbo where i live its literally crawling with foxes

  • @Reebbo where is snake road

  • we have salamanders in our back yard and we live in mill creek

  • i dont think there fight'in

  • this is by far my favorite video of yours... i also love salamanders and go herping with my uncle everynow and then..i dont live in a good area so when i go over we take walks sometimes

  • You look like Ashton Kutcher!

  • at 0:46, it is called a vernal pool.

  • hey i live in IL,where about do you live-down south like Marion or just a suburb out by some forest preserves?

  • I actually live up north a little more.

    Belleville area.

  • i went out today and cought 7 salamanders and i brought some eggs home with me, what kind of habitat should the eggs go in????

  • yes, I know that. Go watch some of the other videos I have about Plethodons we have seen. I mentioned that several times. I only mentioned them here because they are an extremely common species in the area. Only a few minutes before hand we had shot a video of some zig-zags right next to that very same pool. So I figured it was worth mentioning them.

  • Nottheirfuckingtool is a dickhead

  • thebakery obviously is a master at coming up with intelligent insults...am I a douche bag too or is that stinger a little too sophisticated for you? I was simply offering Dylan some good advice that might help him become more informed if he plans on continuing this video series...he was able to be civil and take some criticism so I don't see why someone such as yourself, who obviously has nothing better to do than make retarded comments, couldn't keep their dumb fucking mouth shut.

  • there is nothing in california i wish i lived where dylan is

  • Now im motivated to go herping lol, but im not sure how much i would find in good ol' northern jersey... the garden state? Lol, more like the garbage state :P

  • lmao me too, im going to start herping aswell but im also stuck in nothern jersey

  • omg there so much creatures where dylan lives i liv in cali and theres nothing here

  • at. 5:34 where are those type of frogs ushally you can find in like i live in pennsylvania andi wana if you can tell me if there is any good wild life here? like reptiles

  • pennsylvania has tons of stuff. i live in cunnecticut and theres alot of this stuff here too

  • Awsome vid!

  • refering to the algae and the salamander eggs, do they hatch quicker because of the amount of light that the algae gather which may warm the water quicker, speeding up the incubation time.

  • Yes! Give in to your hatred!

  • take the egg mass bring it home put it in a jar and watch it hatck thatll b cool i would do that

  • same here

  • Around 7:45 in the video...that is so pretty! :)

  • dylan is soo cute..

  • I know...he can talk about my reptiles any day lol :)

  • WOW

  • The algae you are talking about is oophila(egg loving) ambystomatis. I had read some research paper where the algae is correlated with increase oxygen to the eggs and also provide some crypic coloration.

  • Yea but it was later discovered that the oxygen provided by the algae is not actually providing more than if the eggs had no algae. There was some intensive research done here in Illinois about that algae. Still nothing concrete as to why the eggs with it develop faster.

cryptic coloration is a big help in survival though.

  • BTW, i also know my salamanders, from the looks of the egg mass up picked up I would say is A.maculatum. The consistance of the egg mass is an easy way to tell. The eggs are definatly not dorsalis, as far as i know plethodons either are stream breeders or direct developers. Pretty sure dorsalis is direct development.

  • yea we determined that it was maculatum for sure.

only other suspect could have been A. texanum.

  • It is known that eggs that are warmer grow faster. The algae would provide more surface area to heat them up. Many species of frogs actually lay their eggs on top of each others just to make more surface area and heat up.

  • cricket frogs: also have a different call than spring peepers...should have mentioned that

  • two different species of frog ... thats kind of a given I thought.

  • that is true lol. but ya never know...thanks to hollywood many people believe all frogs sound like the pacific treefrog

  • haha yea.

    Ribbit Ribbt!

  • man go work for discovery channel or something, you good!!!

  • hey man i love all ure vids ure prety smart man keep it up

  • thanks a lot

  • cool video

  • GREAT i love it!

  • It is so great to see so many herps together. I hope that wetland area is private or protected.

  • yea its state protected and they are pretty strict with it(thankfully)

  • Just found some spotted salamander eggs in the little pond by the house the other day, I frequently see them in and out of the pond during the spring/summer months. Hopefully this year I'll see some garter snakes, havn't seen any in some time, I believe this to be the over pop of coyotes here in Ma.

  • all ur videos are awsome man keep it up
