Clapton isn't the most technically gifted guitarist - never has been. But his fluid style and versatility is what makes him so influential and admired by his contemporaries. Steve Winwood can certainly play extremely well, but his fluidity isn't a patch on Clapton.
I only wish Clapton had been more innovative, akin to Hendrix. Saying that, the wah-wah on White Room, and reverb on the Bluesbreakers album were moments in history that will never be forgotten.
i hate these questions, who cares, my opnion is clapton is the best, but some other dudes opnion is gonna be hendrix, and some other dickhead who knows nothing is gonna say john petrushi or something, lol point is its a question knowone can answer, all we can say without argument is there is a select few of about 5 who could realisticallly claim it. and if i wrote names up for thst there would prob be arguments about that too, so seriously why fucking bother, p.s, nice vid!!
You all know that Hendrix was right: Winwood is incredible! My favourite singer, may favourite keyboard player. Listen to some of Joe Cockers first recordings. Legendary keyboard!
Ill tell you who's the god lol ITS JIMI HENDRIX i watched a documentary on him called "the uncut story of jimi hendrix"
on google videos and theres one part that talks about jimi sort of arguing with clapton and jimi gets up on stage and shows him up in a little club in england

Clapton is good but I would not think him the best guitarist or vocalist; there are many better in both veins. But he is good--bell bottom blues and some of his blues remakes.
No, rune--that is my opinion; Clapton is GOOD. I think he is a great musician. His singing is not traditional blues and does not have the southern sound and his guitar playing great but not as good as many of his contemporaries. I respect the man and think he is a great musicologist. If you disagree--sorry. Maybe he is your favorite and that is your opinion. Thanks.
@ClassicRock111 I think you've made a good point - EC is as much a musciologist as a musician. Whilst he does have his distinctive style, and at his best is excellent (not just 'good'), he seems a) to have known that there were better around even just in 60s London, with Albert Lee & Bernie Watson (read his biog) b) feels that his role is to bring Freddie/BB/Abert King, Robert Johnson etc. to the 'masses'. This is why he's seen as a 'sell-out' because his sound is friendly to non-experts!
Rune--everybody knows your a u2 fag hag with a small dick--real small. That is why you make stupid fucking comments; your mother is a fucking nigger fucker and your dad was never around. In your house your kids know when your wife is on the rag because your dick tastes like blood. faggot
Steve Winwood is THE MOST undrrated guitar player of all time. had he never played organ and only ever played the guitar he would probably be in the top 5 of every list. Unfortuantly... for some reason, the fact that he plays another instrument doesnt make him as good? if you ask me, he is one of the best guitar players evr AND one of the best organ/ singers so in my opinion he is one of the greatest all aroud rock musicians of all time. who can top him? seriously?
I wrote this exact same thing someplace else on YouTube. Absolutely correct. Listen to when Winwood picks up and plugs in on Had To Cry Today. The sparks fly.
@milktrey Agreed. However, one comment made by Pete Townsend about SW was that he was a little lazy - he missed some of the rehersals for EC's comeback Rainbow Concert & Townsend had to chase him up. EC (even when stoned/drunk) has always worked hard at touring etc. EC's v much driven by this work ethic & need to produce hits (if the truth were told), SW seems to prefer living on farms in the country. Nothing wrong in this, but maybe explains his lower profile?
Please remember that there is a reason that Clapton said that he waited 25 years to play with Winwood. Winwood is a much more accomplished musician and performer than Clapton, who is often boring.
The recipe for a great rock musician - a male born during the 1940's in England. Who fits in that group? Members of Pink Floyd, The Who, The Stones, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, The Animals, These guys etc. etc. etc...long list
Winwood is doing the vocals, but it's Clapton playing lead guitar. Winwood plays keyboards. I've never seen or heard of him playing guitar, though I'm sure he can.
Oh yes he can play a great guitar, though right, not on this performance. Check out Dear mr. Fantasy by Traffic. Winwwood as an all-round talent is matched by very, very few ...
Last confirmation ... Mitch Mitchell is on record as saying that Jimi Hendrix just thought the world of Windwood's talent, and that had Steve asked Jimi to join "anything he was involved in," Jimi would have gone there like a shot. Hendrix thought Winwood the greatest talent in rock music. Who am I to argue!
I think the world of both of them, always have, I have a lot more Clapton in my collection than Winwood. They're coming to Denver together in June....wish I could afford to see them. Maybe I'll be able to come up with the money....sure hope so.
She wasn't..... her name was Mariora Goschen. She was hired for the photo shoot by Bob Seidemann who designed the album cover. For years there was rumours that the girl was Ginger Baker's daughter.
Did they play all of the blind faith album including sea of joy? i doubt they did do what you like w/o ginger baker, unless of course he was there too!!!
Pretty decent sound Luisecc considering where you are sitting. Thanks for the post. Being an EC and SW fan since the mid 60's, it is great that these 2 guys got together again. It is so refreshing to have a group of 5 guys put out such a good sound and vibe w/ the 2 (Gods) legendary musicians.
This gig was terrific !

You mention Winwood as a guitar player
and I agree he is Underrated for sure.Back
in the day( 60's) in the UK,he was thought
very highly as one of the country's best guitarists. Hendrix we all know was awesome, and Clapton
has his style and sound. But as I recently heard
from Jimmy Page(at the Rock&Roll hall of Fame),
"Jeff(BECK)is the very Best guitarist, peroid,no one
can do what he does".I personally agree, and believe
that Jeff Beck eclipses them all, although he wouldn't
say it himself...

Steve may be a better mucician but the guitar skills of Clapton are much better.
There is a reasen Clapton is the best blues guitarist of the world but i must say some of the songs don't have the spirit of Creams Clapton.

I've met Windwood and he's not God and I'm confident Eric isn't ether. But I'll bet God listens to both of them play.
You can't take anything away from these guys, both are great entertainers and long time friends.
