This reminds me of 2 Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes:

1) "Nightmares," Season 1, when Sunnydale residents' nightmares came to life. The moral was that you have to confront your fears to conquer them.

2) "Fear, Itself," Season 4, when the Scooby gang were at a Halloween party where Gachnar the fear demon made everyone's worst fears become reality. But when they summoned him, Gachnar turned out to only be a few inches tall. Your fears always seem bigger than they really are.

This...was...AMAZING!!! Best episode so far! Season 3 is where AYAOTD really picked up...it fits that it ends with an episode dealing not with any specific fear, but Fear itself. The bit with Tucker and Frank at the close really sums up the episode: it implies that the most terrifying thing is the unknown, because then your imagination fills in the blanks. And the fact that there was nothing in the box reminds us that often our worst fear is only in our own minds.
