I kinda like it. the F-5 has always been a good looking plane and this version is like a sleeker -18. As for it's capabilities who knows what it's got underneath? probably not going to give western air forces a problem but it's not hard to bounce an oil tanker. what is their pilot training like? if they are serious they could give arab air forces a problem. Don't forget that the Argentineans embarrassed the royal navy at the falklands with a few A-6's.

I'm not suggesting that this fighter is all that dangerous. It probably isn't. what I'm saying is that it doesn't pay to dismiss it out of hand. I'm guessing the Iranians don't have a problem loosing a good number of these fighters in order to bloody the US Navy. They can't win a war that way but they can make it a very painful proposition for us to have to fight one. It is a strategy that has worked against us before.

Actually, I have seen the F5s in action and they are respectable...even with the single vert stab wing...

They are maneuverable and quick. Theit problem is short duration over the battlefield, poor acceleration and outdated avionics/ Air to air weaponry capabilities. It seems to me that this would fall victim to many AIM120s and Standard 2/3 missiles.

150 A4s? we never had such a number of airplanes in the whole air force (including Mirages, Daggers and Camberras). The Fuerza Aérea Argentina had no more than35 Skyhawks during the war, and lost half of them, but caused serious damages to the Royal Navy

Ignore them, they (Americans) believe that a country which has a defence industry that is only 20 years old, should start producing F22 right away. Iran is one of the few nations that has self made national industries in naval, air and land warfare. And this is under sanctions. Give it another 10-15 years, and we will get there.

With that said, a war with Iran can be prosecuted with a classic pincer movement, a military draft can easily escalate the number of troops to at least half a million couple this with a massive naval response.

It wouldn't be pretty but we would beat the snot out of Irans' military. Is there a good reason to do it?

Iran has no solution because the government won't negotiate through diplomacy, they keep stalling. America is tied down in Iraq, Afghanistan and Korea. So Yeah, not considering a military draft...there is no solution. Start a war with us and you'll see anywhere between half to a whole million of American Troops chewing your military to pieces.

Wow, they took an F-5 they got from us back in the day and added a second vertical stab. The T-38C I fly is light-years ahead of that junk. I would congratulate Iran if they really built their own fighter, such as China, but not for this. And dude, yay for Turkey getting plans and parts from Lockheed and putting them together. We still own them after they are built and then hand them over. It's our technology on lease, nothing more.

Up until the Revolution in 1979 Iran used American technology (airplanes,fighters, tanks, and etc)They very little technology of their own specialy airplanes and fighters and about a year after the revolution the Iraq Iran war broke out for 7 years. So they have created all of this technology in about 21 years. and America has been making airplanes ever since the wright brothers.

With such a small nose very similar to the F-5 I would doubt it has a capable air-to-air radar system which would severly limit its air-superiority role. Most likely they would be picked out of the sky by AIM-120s fired from beyod visual range.

They dont need to buy engines or any part from anywhere since iran today announced that they started to mass productions of this jet. USA can arm saudi arabia and egypt against iran but Turkish people feel iranians closer to themselves than them. As a Turkish I congratulate iran. Turkey produces F-16s and iran now makes Saeghe, we are stronger than other puppet countries and we will be even stronger than the west countries.Just wait and see

To my knowledge this F5 copy hasn't even achieved production status. There's the problem of engines source. Assuming Iran can make a cheap ground attack plane and has infrastructure and resources they'd need to make 300+ of these. Fast.

last seconds shows a phantom F4 but the other (in blue) is Saeghe. It uses dual RD-33 Tomansky (used in Mig-29 too) jet engines + Iranian made avionics and Russian Radar.

Well I must congratulate the Iranians on building their first indigenous jet aircraft or should I say their first modified jet -- Looks like a souped up T-38 or F-5 if you ask me! Look at the front view and of course the rear engine(s) configuration it is identical to a T-38 Talon. Looks like an F-18 as if! Man those engineers in Iran are brilliant. Looks like they may a nuke soon -- it will look North Korean!
