I kinda like it. the F-5 has always been a good looking plane and this version is like a sleeker -18. As for it's capabilities who knows what it's got underneath? probably not going to give western air forces a problem but it's not hard to bounce an oil tanker. what is their pilot training like? if they are serious they could give arab air forces a problem. Don't forget that the Argentineans embarrassed the royal navy at the falklands with a few A-6's.
A few A4s you mean...I'd say more like 150 A4s and lost a good number of them to boot. I reckon Iran will suffer the same fate if they decide to start a war.
I'm not suggesting that this fighter is all that dangerous. It probably isn't. what I'm saying is that it doesn't pay to dismiss it out of hand. I'm guessing the Iranians don't have a problem loosing a good number of these fighters in order to bloody the US Navy. They can't win a war that way but they can make it a very painful proposition for us to have to fight one. It is a strategy that has worked against us before.
Actually, I have seen the F5s in action and they are respectable...even with the single vert stab wing...
They are maneuverable and quick. Theit problem is short duration over the battlefield, poor acceleration and outdated avionics/ Air to air weaponry capabilities. It seems to me that this would fall victim to many AIM120s and Standard 2/3 missiles.
150 A4s? we never had such a number of airplanes in the whole air force (including Mirages, Daggers and Camberras). The Fuerza Aérea Argentina had no more than35 Skyhawks during the war, and lost half of them, but caused serious damages to the Royal Navy
Is good to know that in other countries people remember Argentinians pilots. They had old airplanes but were well trained. They fight well in the most important naval battle since WWII
According to some of the comments written by some white trash american here...If usa is so powerful and Iran is so premitive then my friends What's all the sensitivity for and how come you all have you're heads up's Iran ass ???I tell you if you're in an imposed 8 yr war like iran and 30 yrs of sactions by th e western countries you would've been dead by now and you couldn't even make burgers no more..so think deep and write something after..all you say is what's on the jew CNN.THINK FOR URSLF
Ignore them, they (Americans) believe that a country which has a defence industry that is only 20 years old, should start producing F22 right away. Iran is one of the few nations that has self made national industries in naval, air and land warfare. And this is under sanctions. Give it another 10-15 years, and we will get there.
First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you.
We are at phase two currently. Pentagon fears phase 3, thats why Obama wants to talk.
Obama wants to talk because it is in everyone's best interests.
With that said, a war with Iran can be prosecuted with a classic pincer movement, a military draft can easily escalate the number of troops to at least half a million couple this with a massive naval response.
It wouldn't be pretty but we would beat the snot out of Irans' military. Is there a good reason to do it?
I see no reason to go to war with Iran, at least not right now.
Classic pincer movement? haha what did you just pick up a manual on warfare almighty nintendo general? Look at the map, read exactly what Iran has when it comes to man power, missiles, terrain etc, read what defence experts have written, there is a reason why Gates and others sometime say "there is no military solution to Iran".
I know your an american fanboy who wants to beat your chest. True Iran has not one tenth the military technology of the US, but what it has is enough as a deterrent.
Iran has no solution because the government won't negotiate through diplomacy, they keep stalling. America is tied down in Iraq, Afghanistan and Korea. So Yeah, not considering a military draft...there is no solution. Start a war with us and you'll see anywhere between half to a whole million of American Troops chewing your military to pieces.
Someone here said we have our heads up their ass....Let me correct this...we can have America's size 14 in Irans ass when the time comes to do it. That 8 year war was sponsored by America. We kept that war going to continue to sell weapons and spare parts. How many years kicking ass in Vietnman? Korea? Iraq, Afghanistan? Except for Vietnam, were still in Korea, Iraq and Afgh.
it is clear the there are three questions here. Do the the US and here allies have the the the capabilities necessary to mount an effective war on Iran? Answer: Yes.
Does this fighter significantly change that equation? Answer: No.
Do the US and her allies have the desire to fight a war with Iran? Answer: NO.
I tend to agree with some in here.. Iran did exactly what the isrealis didi with the mirage ..to transfor it in the ksfir.. is nothing more that a f-5 ..Pretty soon The Dominican Republic will get the f-5 and add a front flap and is a new fither??!
Wow, they took an F-5 they got from us back in the day and added a second vertical stab. The T-38C I fly is light-years ahead of that junk. I would congratulate Iran if they really built their own fighter, such as China, but not for this. And dude, yay for Turkey getting plans and parts from Lockheed and putting them together. We still own them after they are built and then hand them over. It's our technology on lease, nothing more.
Wow, Iran has managed to start producing a jet that the US produced decades ago and abandoned long ago and never considered for air superiority. This thing is little more than a trainer in the states, but Iran probably will use it as a frontline unit.
Up until the Revolution in 1979 Iran used American technology (airplanes, fighters, tanks, and etc)They very little technology of their own specialy airplanes and fighters and about a year after the revolution the Iraq Iran war broke out for 7 years. So they have created all of this technology in about 21 years. and America has been making airplanes ever since the wright brothers.
what! there using a fighter that light? as a bomber? rofl. it's the old F5 with a differnt tail lol. wow. a second rudder. lol. god. if what a waste lol.
i dont understand what every one is so in to iran i know they act like nazzi germany, but they are primitive what the hell can they do ???
they are a joke compared to israel or usa
china and russia only sell them weapons and they dont give a damn about some persians they care only about making money israel is the second arm dealer selling china weapons.
With such a small nose very similar to the F-5 I would doubt it has a capable air-to-air radar system which would severly limit its air-superiority role. Most likely they would be picked out of the sky by AIM-120s fired from beyod visual range.
They dont need to buy engines or any part from anywhere since iran today announced that they started to mass productions of this jet. USA can arm saudi arabia and egypt against iran but Turkish people feel iranians closer to themselves than them. As a Turkish I congratulate iran. Turkey produces F-16s and iran now makes Saeghe, we are stronger than other puppet countries and we will be even stronger than the west countries.Just wait and see
To my knowledge this F5 copy hasn't even achieved production status. There's the problem of engines source. Assuming Iran can make a cheap ground attack plane and has infrastructure and resources they'd need to make 300+ of these. Fast.
Go Iran! We proved that not only we can restore an old F5 scrap plane make it fly but also for extra bonus we added a second rudder!! Indeed great achievment!
Sort of Early 4th gen looks but i like it..It looks capable. But its all about avionics and weapons suits these days. I wonder what BVR abilities it has. Other wise it would be only shooting practice for the Americans.
by the way congratulations on the Shafagh, looking good. Hopefully all the corrupt "leaders" in the middle east will be overthrown, and a new era of a free, modern and strong Middle east will emerge. With strong relationship between iran, arabia and turkey.
last seconds shows a phantom F4 but the other (in blue) is Saeghe. It uses dual RD-33 Tomansky (used in Mig-29 too) jet engines + Iranian made avionics and Russian Radar.
Well I must congratulate the Iranians on building their first indigenous jet aircraft or should I say their first modified jet -- Looks like a souped up T-38 or F-5 if you ask me! Look at the front view and of course the rear engine(s) configuration it is identical to a T-38 Talon. Looks like an F-18 as if! Man those engineers in Iran are brilliant. Looks like they may a nuke soon -- it will look North Korean!
