I have been working out in full turnouts (no SCBA...yet...) for about a week doing Crossfit stuff - it has been challenging and I feel amazing. Definitely taking it to the next level. The guys at my department say that I'm crazy - I tell em that the word is "HARDCORE".
And @yonkersfugitive - who cares what you look like? It's stepping it up, man!!!
Not bad but I would recommed wearing a SCBA, even if the mask is not donned, as well as 25ft of 2 1/2" hose on top of the tank. This would add about 75lbs extra and would provide a more realistic experience of what a ff would carry into a fire.
if you wanted to simulate the efforts required "on the job" then you should have thrown ladders pulled hose and cut holes with your axe. not toyed around with a kettle bell. wft
@marc2027 as corequest said, they wear turnouts to simulate real firefighting conditions. The same reason why the military trains in flak jackets and BDUs.
