You are not quite right ... They don't speak Bulgarian, but it's very close to it!! In the 1960s,Tito hired linguists to CREATE a 'Macedonian' language, derived from Bulgarian. He needed it to be different from Bulgarian (but Slavic enough) in order to give them a Yugoslav, rather than a Bulgarian identity.

I mean, this is no secret ... Everybody knows that that FYROM is a forged nation ... and that Macedonia is GREEK!

If they were Serbs, it wouldn't have been necessary for Tito to recreate their identities. They would have fit into the "Yugo" identity without any problems. If you look at statistical data of that area form the C16th onwards for example, you'll see a lot more Bulgarians than Serbs ...
