Hi, does anyone know if you can put an external hard drive into a computer. Download for example cod zombie maps for xbox 360 onto it and then put it back into my xbox and download them so I can use them???? I would really appreciate some advice. Cheers
@judedudemude You can just buy a 16GB flash drive and plug it into the usb port man. The xbox 360 will ask you permission to reformat it so that it can use it so you just have to accept that. They're cheap nowadays costing around $10 for a generic cheap chinese one but I recommend a Sandisk Cruzer Blade which has no cap but it also doesn't have the annoying flip thingy. It's the only flash drive I know of who has the insert built INTO the body so that it never breaks :) It's also only around $25
@judedudemude Well, on ebay it's around $23-25 for a brand new one. But if you shop around you might be able to find a better one from a less known company :) Just make sure to use google.com to look up reviews for any flash drive you're interested in!
Hey maybe some people will say this is a dumb question, to those people, fuck you, to anyone who wants to help answer it. I plugged in my external to my 360's USB so I could try and mod a save. I can't copy anything over because it's not formatted, xbox says it will format, but would that remove everything on there? its a SATA on a Blackwidow so not really a external, I guess, IDK, whatever, does anyone kno the answer? will it erase all me pics n videos and music?
Microsoft said only 16GB could be used by the 360 for an external drive or USB drive. But do they mean for game saves and profiles only, and that the rest can be used for music and videos and stuff, or that only 16GB can be used, period?
@agreen2k7 how do you do it? I got my external harddrive hooked up to my xbox to watch films and listen to music, but can you really get the games working??!
You definitely need one. You can buy the Arcade version wich doesn't include a HDD, but my opinion, it's better that you play Xbox with HDD. Without one your dead lost !
@jer3my95 , Yeah but I'm not saying that you CAN'T play Live with a Arcade version I said is better that you have a HDD with your Arcade Xbox for more memory storage.
why is there no youtube video showing how to play a fullscreen movie on your xbox using fat32 and a external hard drive. everyones talking bout it but nothings on here. even better theres no video on here of someone using hsf+ formatted hardrive playing a hd movie on xbox. help im lost
does anyone know if it is possible to put say a terrabyte drive on my 360 and save things like demos onto that? or will the data not work with drives like that
hey. i have a external hard drive with a eSata connection and usb. lets say i remove my normal x360 HDD and connect your portable hard drive via esata to the eSata port on the 360 where the regular hard drive is supposed to go. will this theroy work? if it works out, you'll be able to store gamer profiles and games on the external hdd. SOMEONE PLEASE TRY MY THEROY!
From what I have learnd from the internet, It won't work the box itself will only recognize(?) 120 gb cause it's the max capacity... And if you were going to replace the internal with an external you would have to backup the software, drives, etc. so it would just be a mess... :D
wow dude i was asking him a fucking question, maybe i wanted to know how much it was for his, btw ive got both too and my ps3 deosnt wreck my games, and ps3 is the same price as a xbox
Ours comes standard with what is still said to be one of the best BluRay players on the market. It has the Cell Processor that not even computers are capable of running yet. It has built in wi-fi, and the ability to use any 2.5" HDD.
If you bought the $400 Xbox when it first came out, added wifi, the HD DVD, HDMI add on, and a bigger hard drive, you still would have topped $600...and will NEVER play BluRays, hahahahahahahahahaha. Idiot.
You still missed the point of my argument... I like to be able to play fun games on my GAMINGCONSOLE rather than use it for other stuff. your the idiot who can't read, and why keep arguing when I already explained that I was IRONIC....
We'll see who's doing the laughing when, after losing $2,000,000,000...yeah, that's right, two BILLION dollars, Microsoft decides to pull out of the game. The Red Ring of Death alone caused Microsoft to post a loss of $1.1B. And, I can read, I was just laughing at your idiocy. Listen, all of the big time third party game makers are crawling right back to Sony. You just watch when Sony repeats the beatdown of PS2 vs. XBox. And PS2 was the inferior machine that time.
Wow, I didn't attack you originally. All you can come back with is "GAMINGCONSOLE". Dude, all I said was "IT ONLY DOES EVERYTHING"...standard equipment. And so many people went out and TRIED to make their 360 a PS3 and failed miserably, and spent thousands in the process. Then, I said that Microsoft themselves failed miserably. PS1 was a gaming console, PS2 was a gaming console and since they had mastered that, Sony wanted the PS3 to do EVERYTHING...for free. One time pay...then you're done. HA!
wow, how old are you? you just can't exept a no can you. Don't you see that i don't care what you think and you won't convice me to change my opinion... you are one of the most immature people I ever talked with, what are you 6? no, you grammer is too good for that so i will asume that you are at least 10. And I am goingto end my discussion with that I am not going to reply on any more of you silly comments, You are not worth the time it takes to write this message....
HAHAHAHA, oh man; it's so fucking true, it's embarrassing. lol I know my uncle who was really rubbing the fact he bought the ps3 as soon as it came out is now kicking himself, 'cause there's only ONE game he actually kinda sorta likes. lol
as far as im aware there is not it was proboaly a type-o as the 120 GBs are expensive and oly come as standard on eletes unles someone found a compatible laptop hard drive (which i whats acualy in the xbox hard drive cases} it is impossible
hey i have a question i bought a 250gb harddrive and already format it to fat32 but it still does not detect the drive is there anything you think or know that i have to do to fix this ?
The Thing That You Can´t Transfer To the External HD: *Save Games* *Themes* *Add-on* *Games (To Play it from the HD)* *And other thing that involve Games and Xbox Live* Things That You Can Transfer and Use In The Xbox: *Videos* *Music* *Pictures* ---The Reason--- The Xbox 360 Read the External HD Like it was a portable Device (Ex:iPod,USB Drives,Cellphones, etc)and the 360 only admits to play the content in the Portable Device and not to Save but there are advanteges. i use it to see movie
Well, this conversation needs help. The Xbox360 will only read a FAT32 Drive. Most drives that come out are NTFS. Which can't be read by the 360. So, the best way of doing this is to format the drive when you first get it to FAT32, if on windows you can use partition magic and Linux/*nix distros can use Gparted to achieve this. Then you can put your data on the drive and plug it into the rear of the 360.
Make sure you remove all your data before formatting or else you'll lose it all.
hey i have a question i bought a 250gb harddrive and already format it to fat32 but it still does not detect the drive is there anything you think or know that i have to do to fix this ?
The Xbox will recognize any hard drive over 120gb. I have a partitioned drive at 450gb and it works fine on the 360. Make sure whatever drive you are using is formatted in FAT32 format (On a mac it will appear as MS-DOS)
two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue. The clown statue is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this to 10 videos today, the clown will be in your bed at 3 am with a chainsaw in his hand
xbox 360 is so fucking stupid, i am on my second elite, game play is amazing but all my mates who have xbox's which is about 12 mates have all had a replacement sent out because theres have broken. it is so much hastle. microsoft should have thought about how they would put the 360 together better because it does not work!!!
Here is a question, if I have a Western Digital 320GB external harddrive, can I plug it into Xbox and do the same things a normal Xbox HDD does like Download demos, music, games ?
You can use an external harddrive to save game saves, music, videos, and other stuff. You just need an exact image of an original xbox harddrive. The hard part is finding a way to put it on you external harddrive. So thats my next project.
I installed a game to my harddrive with the new xbox experience thing and it still tells me to put the game in to play it. can someone tell me what to do?
Even though the game is installed on your hard drive, you still have to have the disc inserted in order to play it. If you didn't, what's to keep you from going to blockbuster and renting every game and installing it on your hard drive and then taking it back? Microsoft isn't that stupid.
Are you positive of that? I'm sure there's some way to do it... maybe someone has figured out a way to make a USB to Xbox 360 adapter to allow the external HD to plug into the top of the xbox, where the OEM HDs are put?
Can you install games on it, kind of happy figuring out ways to not get a ps3, I can get around it but I already know the ps3 is far superior as a console, but in tomorrow's update you will get the ability to install games, that's cool, because I HAVE A 160gb harddrive and maybe a case ready, save me a lot if it makes my console safer and less likely to get RROD, just got it fixed last month and with the HDD I can get around it and wait for ps3 to go down in price and sell the xbox360 for it.
I heard that you can use an external HDD on a 360 as long as it's formatted to the FAT32 format or something. AND you can't download marketplace stuff onto it or even save game saves. You can only use it for vids, music, pics, etc.
you can use it for picture and movie and music, not for save game, download game or anything else. For that you will need to buy an Xbox orginal harddrive for about 120 euro
Everyone here asking questions...that hard drive is for everything BUT game saves and gamer pics, etc....like you can play videos and put photos up but that's pretty much it, no games or profiles or anything. Why do you think they'd sell their own 120 giggers for $80 if you could get 1 TB for around $100...let's be logical people...they use seperate codes so only music, pics, and videos can be used on the external one. I know this from exp of owning one, thanks!
ok theres nothing to this, you plug in a extermal hard drive with music or video on it, and go to external device and your music is there! wow that was hard wasnt it? the only thing hard to do is to get an external hard drive to save your games
Well all hard drive and flash drives come standard un der the fat32 format, so they automatically work. So you didn't even have to do any work to make it compatible. But if you already formatted your drive to something like NTFS or HT for Mac, then you can harm your hard drive.
a do you know which external drives work on the 360 so that i can watch my movies and what kind of external drive do you have? Because i wanted to do this for a while now but dont want to risk the money.
It doesn't matter what kind of external hard drive it is as long as you have a case for it and it connects using USB, you could use a 10 dollar flash drive from walmart if you wanted to instead of buying an external HDD for at least $100
you cant use it for saving games and such, you can play movies from there as long as they r encode with wmv or divx, im using a 320, just format using fat32
You have to parition the hard drive. There is a video for it on you tube ' connect a USB hard drive to a 360' type that in and you will find it. Also seagate has a tutorial. You have to google "seagate hard drive letter not shown'
No, you can't dump game saves, demos or anything on a external drive, the USB ports only lets you to read the contents on a ext. drive, not write to them, the GREEDY people at Microsoft wants you to buy their WAY OVER PRICED HDD's
well how do we know, that he hasnt just got an MP3 Player pluged into the back, just because the lights on the HDD are flashing doesnt mean that its getting the music from that. Im just saying, but anyway cool
why the hell would I want to fool 11,484 people over something stupid as a external hard drive plugged into the xbox 360 that's very well documented on the internet with instructions on how to do so. and to further my point, i do not use a external hard drive on my 360 anymore and I will not format one of my drives to prove a point that's been done time and time again.
I believe that the files have to be in the format of mp4 and itunes format for them to play straight from a hdd. That is just what i've heard from a few places.
Sure it,s no problem to connect a extern hd to a 360. but u can only read from it music movies osv. u cant write to it. becouse the usb are read only on the 360.
rubish, only 16gb available for profiles, games, etc., just another way for microsoft to rip people off.

You definitely need one. You can buy the Arcade version wich doesn't include a HDD, but my opinion, it's better that you play Xbox with HDD. Without one your dead lost !

@guywhospiltegg @PatriotsTV1 , Its cheaper though, but the Arcade doesn't include a headset and a ethernet card so either way you have to buy them.

Are you positive of that? I'm sure there's some way to do it... maybe someone has figured out a way to make a USB to Xbox 360 adapter to allow the external HD to plug into the top of the xbox, where the OEM HDs are put?
siciliano29 3 years ago
hey i have a prob with my 500gb external hdd the xbox360 wont pick it up any ideas anyone?
satsujin87 3 years ago
Yes, the Xbox console was designed to not recognize any hard drive over 120gb

can u save games on ur usb flash drive connected to ur xbox
Fake18Jordan 3 years ago
excuse me but that is bias. I have a 1tb external drive and the xbox 360 detects it fine. You just have to format it in FAT32.
zomgreturpant 2 years ago
Can you install games on it, kind of happy figuring out ways to not get a ps3, I can get around it but I already know the ps3 is far superior as a console, but in tomorrow's update you will get the ability to install games, that's cool, because I HAVE A 160gb harddrive and maybe a case ready, save me a lot if it makes my console safer and less likely to get RROD, just got it fixed last month and with the HDD I can get around it and wait for ps3 to go down in price and sell the xbox360 for it.

can u save games on it
LosGarcias2008 3 years ago
I heard that you can use an external HDD on a 360 as long as it's formatted to the FAT32 format or something. AND you can't download marketplace stuff onto it or even save game saves. You can only use it for vids, music, pics, etc.
schnizerhowwer 3 years ago
thats if u crack that shit witch i have lol dont even message me about how i did it it was a HUGE PAIN IN THE FUCKING ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS :) thank u
moohoobloo 3 years ago
you can use it for picture and movie and music, not for save game, download game or anything else. For that you will need to buy an Xbox orginal harddrive for about 120 euro
Fockorized 3 years ago
Everyone here asking questions...that hard drive is for everything BUT game saves and gamer pics, etc....like you can play videos and put photos up but that's pretty much it, no games or profiles or anything. Why do you think they'd sell their own 120 giggers for $80 if you could get 1 TB for around $100...let's be logical people...they use seperate codes so only music, pics, and videos can be used on the external one. I know this from exp of owning one, thanks!

microsoft should be ashamed of themselves for not letting us use our own external HDs. Fuck them!!!

lonelywolf04 3 years ago
ok theres nothing to this, you plug in a extermal hard drive with music or video on it, and go to external device and your music is there! wow that was hard wasnt it? the only thing hard to do is to get an external hard drive to save your games
ALHMAHN 3 years ago
You need to know different types of formats, so it's a little harder than what you think. Even though...
There is a thing called Google.
People like you is what makes Youtube such a horrible site to social with.
HunterBooner 3 years ago
what types of formats?
are you stupid...it supports jpeg pictures, avi videos, and mp3 audio...i figured that out within a minute of plugging in a flash drive.
"...Youtube is such a horrible site to social with."
socialize...dumbass noobs these days
Skio25 3 years ago
Well all hard drive and flash drives come standard un der the fat32 format, so they automatically work. So you didn't even have to do any work to make it compatible. But if you already formatted your drive to something like NTFS or HT for Mac, then you can harm your hard drive.
Yea I know, Noobz these days huh? haha
HunterBooner 3 years ago
a do you know which external drives work on the 360 so that i can watch my movies and what kind of external drive do you have? Because i wanted to do this for a while now but dont want to risk the money.
marioontheeastside 3 years ago
It doesn't matter what kind of external hard drive it is as long as you have a case for it and it connects using USB, you could use a 10 dollar flash drive from walmart if you wanted to instead of buying an external HDD for at least $100
Skio25 3 years ago
thanks man
marioontheeastside 3 years ago
so how do you do it then . why not tell ppl
xxlcableguy 3 years ago
you cant use it for saving games and such, you can play movies from there as long as they r encode with wmv or divx, im using a 320, just format using fat32

i hooked the usb cable into the usb port and it's not reading it i don't know what else to do??? can some one give me some advice
Mukman22 4 years ago
look it up on Google, all i remember is that u have to format the drive to FAT32 and put something on it.
NICKSTER117 4 years ago
The xbox can only read it if the software to read it is already in the hard drive. (There is no CD which came with it)
Flyingtac0 4 years ago
Ive got the same hard drive, have you found out a way to get it working with your 360 yet ?
dannycarter85 4 years ago
try formatting it FAT 32
use something like Paragon Hard Disk Manager
as windows wont format anything over 32gb with FAT32
patppow 3 years ago
You have to parition the hard drive. There is a video for it on you tube ' connect a USB hard drive to a 360' type that in and you will find it. Also seagate has a tutorial. You have to google "seagate hard drive letter not shown'
instantrepairmanuals 4 years ago
No, you can't dump game saves, demos or anything on a external drive, the USB ports only lets you to read the contents on a ext. drive, not write to them, the GREEDY people at Microsoft wants you to buy their WAY OVER PRICED HDD's
tommee10533 4 years ago

jayboy2k8 4 years ago
why the hell would I want to fool 11,484 people over something stupid as a external hard drive plugged into the xbox 360 that's very well documented on the internet with instructions on how to do so. and to further my point, i do not use a external hard drive on my 360 anymore and I will not format one of my drives to prove a point that's been done time and time again.

Can u save movies from xbox live on it ?
downforceg 4 years ago
No, it plays Divx (Xvid) also with the lateset update! My 300GB drive works with it as well! its in NTFS!
amoosmo 4 years ago
you should look at when the video was added.
dubcorleone 4 years ago
I know. but my comment was aimed towards the person below me, when he said it plays MP4's only! that comment was one week old only! :-)
amoosmo 4 years ago
haha gotcha. i'm going to make a new video soon.
dubcorleone 4 years ago
I believe that the files have to be in the format of mp4 and itunes format for them to play straight from a hdd. That is just what i've heard from a few places.

i got 120gt usb harddrive but xbox360 wont detect it:/
FunkyDee 4 years ago
it needs to be formatted in FAT32 or HFS+
dubcorleone 4 years ago
yeah but FAT32 means that 32gb maximum?and HFS+ never heard about that got any instructions for me?
FunkyDee 4 years ago
nah it doesn't. it does have a 4 gig file limit though which sucks. HFS+ is a apple format but the 360 picks it up no problem (yet no ntfs? the fuck)
dubcorleone 4 years ago
well my friend has over 800gigs on his xbox thanks to his usb drives so i guess i gotta get new HDD and the same as he has
