  • Please, next time: Fix your sound! It scared the hell out of me as it got louder..

  • Hi, thanks for this. I am just wanting to remove the hard drive from my old iMac and your two videos have been really useful.

  • Thanks again

    Good Job

    Bill

  • thanks heaps, you have given a good start for my new year, i followed your video and got my gredit card out and my imac is back @100%. cheers!

  • @cuminfrmdagold Great to hear!! :-)

  • hi there, thanks for the videos, i now know how to remove and open the imac but my problem is i have my gredit card inside the cd/dvd drive as my little son not knowing what he was doing and insert it in. will it be possible to get it out if i'll get inside the imac..any comments would help as i'm planning to open this mac soon...thanx

  • @cuminfrmdagold Once you take the screen off disconnect and remove the DVD rom. From there you should be able to see the card and get at it with a pair of tweezers. Hopefully nothing has been pushed too hard on the inside of the Dvd-Rom and still works. Best of luck!

  • I'm from Canada. Why?

  • are you from canada or minnesota?

  • Just watched part 1 & 2 ... Carter these are EXCELLENT videos! - Thanks a lot.

I've always wanted to know how this was done on my 24 inch Mac & now, thanks to you, I do.

I've subscribed & will keep watching your channel.

  • The volume was very low.

  • I just bought my imac off a friend; it worked for a week and now it won't even turn on, no chime, no fan...nothing. Not sure what it is or what to do but I will be taking it apart when I get the time. Thx for showing me.

  • is this the method for replacing an iMac LCD screen rather than replacing hard drive's etec.. because i'm trying to find a video showing me how to replace the screen. do i just do all of this backwards once I have removed the old screen?

  • What size is that first screw you take off ? It is very small. Where and what is the name of the tool needed to take it off?

  • thank you for this video, my brother bought a 17 inch iMac from eBay and when it went to turn on nothing happened, so i used these videos to open it up and find that there were cables that were unhooked under the lcd (not cables to the lcd just cables that i needed to remove the screen for) so thanks :D you saved us from having to ship it back :DD

  • i just want to dust this thing out..lol i cant find any decent tutorials that explain it. i took it apart as far as the screen and blew dust bunnies out from atop the hard drive fan. i could not even begin to imagine whats in the CPU heatsink. any advice on pulling logic board to get to CPU fan ?

  • @warmfreeze did u get any info on cleaning it? how'd it work out? speed any better?

  • Thanks for a very helpful video indeed! The only down side is the volume level - the "normalise audio" tool is your friend ;)

  • Can the hard drive fan be removed and replaced from this point in your video without removing the logic board, etc?

  • Thanks so much for these videos. My mom's G5 2.1 is spitting out CDs and DVDs within 30 seconds of insertion (common issue in your experience?). Also, her iSight seems to be confused; Quicktime and Photo Booth insist that some other application is using the camera, while Skype doesn't even show the camera in the menu. It shows up in System Profiler just fine. Will see what software installation will do before performing surgery. Thanks again.

  • Hi there

Where can I get a new hard drive for this same IMac? Mine died and I need to replace. TY!

  • @shabbymissjenn use any 2.5" drive

then hold ctl+c then seclect the install dvd.

  • why do you recommend that if theres a logic board problem to go to apple repair?

im just curious cus my imac (the exact model in this video) has the white screen of death and ive read that it could be the hard-drive or most likely the logic board issues

anything you would recommend for the white screen of death problem?

please help me out, any reply would be great

  • @MapleJunkie I recommend that you take it to a repair shop if your computer is under warranty or have little knowledge with taking a computer apart. If it's under warranty you could void it by opening it up. Hard Drive is one thing but if there is potential of it being the Logic Board I would surely leave this for an Apple repair Shop.

  • i have a mac like this with a lot of "dead pixels" thanks for tutorial! now where to find lcd panel?

  • I bought my mac direct from Apple in mid 2009 and nothing in your video applies as to how to get the case open. I have a stuck disc and I have not found one single video (yet) Youtube ( or anywhere) about how to take my iMac apart. Apple must be aware of users trying to take their iMacs apart and decided to make it next to impossible for home owners to get inside the unit, let alone get the stuck CD out without having to take it into the shop. Not one single video for stuck discs applies to me.

  • I've checked out a few of your vids and found them very helpful. I have the same iMac as the one used in this video. I had a question for ya. Have you ever replaced the "iSight" camera in one these. I think I may have wrecked mine moving it around and grabbing it by the plastic around the LCD display. I should have known better but I'm currently shopping for the parts I need and was hoping someone in YouTube land could guide me in the right direction.

    Cheers from Canada.

  • @bgggbb I'm not sure which model you hace but ebay would be my first guess like this part here tinyurl dot com/29w263w

  • @twistedmacVIDEO I have the same model used in this video. I checked out eBay and found the parts I need, I just wondering if you've done it before. I think some sauldering might be involved.

  • Very helpful. Thanks

  • I have problems with slow or no start-up and stalling issues on my 2008 iMac24. It's being suggested that it could be hard drive or logic board. Suggestions please.

  • Great video dude!

Whats that blue thing round your wrist?

  • How do I replace just that black LCD cable? I have yellow tint on my iMac and I believe that cable is the cause.

  • Weird, my iMac MA199LL only has one cable to disconnect. It's the one where the 2 screws come out at. Does that make sense? I need a new hard drive, what would you recommend?

  • @nicholasyoder ya, you should have more than one cable for this. Shoot me your computer SN# via a message on youube if you don't mind and i can look up your model desktop.

  • Great vid, though I am in need of one for the imac flat panel 'lamp' from 2002-2004. Do you have any experience with screen replacement for those? No luck finding vids on here so far.

  • I have worked on the iMac G4 before. What parts do you have for replacing. Did you get the lcd panel it self or the goose neck attached to the lcd.

  • Message sent. Thanks.

  • just the bezel frame

  • How do I remove the screen frame from the earlier Imac G5's? There is one giant plate with 5 screws, I know the 3 remove the entire back plate.

  • With the earlier iMac G5's you just take the back panel off to get at everything but are you looking to replace the front panel or LCD?
