The Earth Kingdom's the one that's influenced by Chinese, the Air Nomand are...Tibetan, I think, the Water Tribe is based on the Inuits, and I can't remember what the Fire Nation's based on. But the animation style doesn't have anything to do with Chinese culture, and very little to do with Japanese except that it's influenced by anime.
