@wkcia But that's not the true answer. The answer is Torment.
Everyone in the game has changed, or is changing, due to a personal Torment: All the main characters, as well as others like Pharod, Ravel, Trias or even the Trascendent One himself.
In the end of the game, when you see the ending, you hear the "what can change the nature of a man?" phrase, and you see the symbol of torment upon a rock.
@Owneador1337 The wonderful thing about this game is that there are multiple ways of interpreting this phrase.
Just as "Torment" is an answer, so is, "The belief that he can." Torment is a catalyst, sure- but in the good ending, the Nameless one has finally realised that it is not his torment that causes him anguish, but his refusal to accept it. He changes- and now he is a different, better man.
It's the same with all other characters. They do not change until they realise it.

I quit playing Planescape after trying it for the first 20 minutes. I feel like I've done something wrong now that I've read what people say about this game...
@MordorTheModmaker If Planescape taught you nothing, then you weren't ready to learn - but then again, what do you expect to accomplish in 20 minutes...?
"I shall wait for you in Death's halls, my love..." She smiles, but there is only sadness in it. She closes her eyes, and with an ethereal whisper, she fades.
This is my favourite theme of ALL times ...I meant ALL times
I am amaze anyone can make such music, it is so sad and sorrow but yet it mimic what we call a TRUE Love, Deionarra is so loyal to her choice of love no matter how cruel tha player character was and she kept waiting till the end..
My tears were dropping when she said "I forgive you my love..." and i think there wont be any Deionarra in our real life
@SubBlaze1 You are wrong... I think. There is actually a lot of women who act like that, but men don't treat them well. Deionarra is a woman, who will never be happy... because she hopelessly fell in love with a bastard... that's sad. And remember, love is not for free :-) Greetings.
I suppose you can be right ;-) But in our world with the existance of those so called "celebrity" ladies , footballer's wife/gf and some of the "friend" that i once knew....guess these people give ladies/women a bad name...
@SubBlaze1 I wonder why everyone here, including you, admires Deionarra and sees her as the "ideal woman" or something... For me, she was nothing but creepy. In my opinion, she did not love the Nameless One because she never knew him - she just clung desperately to an idolized picture of him which existed nowhere but in her own mind. Her illusion of love had made her blind, and her desperate wish to be loved back seemed pathetic - I could never, ever love a girl like that *still creeped out*
@MsUsername37 She's a ghost, what did you expect? :p TNO has had so many incarnations that it's hard to pinpoint what exactly happened with Deionarra when they were both still mere mortals.
@darthbandon10 Of course you're right, and I didn't expect anything else from Deionarra x) Her character makes perfect sense as it is, after all. I just expected some more of *real* people - I expected they maybe might NOT idolize a person who hasn't done anything remotely "heroic" except for blindly, stupidly and, yes, tragically falling in love...
@JunRice: Hmm... Probably, yes. But the fact he was kind of evil doesn't mean he never could have been right, does it? ;)
my apology for late reply:) well i think i am attached to Deionarra because of her loyalty to the Nameless one, the person she thought she love and know, yes she is blind and foolish but her deeds and loyalty is honourable, i would rather hold on to someone like Deionarra than someone who has no regret on turning their backs on someone. This is because in today,i met too many person who don't even know what is loyalty, to find some fiction character who is loyal just make me cry
@SubBlaze1 Now I'm really late too, sorry about that... Thank you for explaining! I personally experienced (as a teenager) both how it felt to *be* like Deionarra and to *know* people like Deionarra; and that kind of love and loyalty was far too bland for my tastes. I'd rather have someone with high moral and intellectual standards, who'd judge my behavior critically. But your experiences and preferences are valid as well, of course. At least I can understand them now =)
@MsUsername37 hey always nice to have someone to chat...lol as this game is a philosophical game.. and yeah...sometime we wont know the good person who we meet, in the EVIL nameless one case, he had lost a dear friend, for my version of Nameless one, that's why i made all those redemption as i really cherish all those who cross the Nameless one's path:)
The answer is provided by the Nameless one himself- "The belief that he can."

What can change the nature of a man?
Feralbreed 11 months ago
@Feralbreed Torment. Torment can change the nature of a man.
(Think of it carefully, every character presented in the game has or is going through some torment which has changed them completely!)
