  • Perry is one of the many journalist who are CIA shills, he. down plays the role that it played and puts all the blame to reagan. That is some thing the CIA has employed since Alan dulles was director.

  • Dick Cheney is so creepy.

  • Ah its so nice to hear civil intellectual conversations. Also, 9/11 became the new WWII. The before and after affect. Like Lawrence says "we became the new Rome". Wars before Afghanistan may similarly act as a continuation for the military growth, but it is also a point in which policies became drastically different like WWII.

  • "Differences in presidential policies amount to infinitesimal quantities" (Noam Chomsky)

  • A Hero requires a villain, and any good politician knows that respect is won, like war is won upon the back of a great or percieved threat. It takes posturing, and creating a state of insecurity. A genuine need of a leader is created out of necessity! So easy to see in the war mongering administrations....Too late for Regan, but not for Bush...

  • These were not mistakes - they were long-term strategy to get to where we are today. It's a continuum...

  • thanx for sharing

  • was Nicaragua really trying to get Soviet help? I mean, that was the standard excuse for any kind of covert or overt operation everywhere, but was that even true?

it's not like you had had to ask too many times, even the Portuguese ex-colonies in Africa received modern and advanced Soviet weaponry, Nicaragua didn't get shit ...

  • @pinochet222 Nicaragua did make an attempt to get Soviet aide... after the Contra's had already started there murderous insurrection and every other seller of weapons including Western Europe turned them down, leaving the Sandinista's desperate. The Sandinista's hoped that by not outright allying with the USSR the US would not interfere in the overthrow of Somosa and the establishment of democracy, as we can see that plan didn't workout so well.

  • @CommissarRed I'm saying that Angola and Mozambique didn't have to "attempt," they just got a fuckton of modern weaponry, including the newest Soviet design radars (which were captured, that's how we know)

That's why it's all bullshit and lies about Nicaragua. They could've even asked help from Cuba, through a proxy, etc.

  • @pinochet222 So what? Angola and Mozambique where publicly backed by the USSR, Angola even had Soviet military advisers, they could do that because Africa was not a key strategic interest of the United States, South Africa like Franco's Spain was a friend to be kept at arms length. Nicaragua is in South America what the US regard as its back garden, any attempt to fund Nicaragua would have been seen as a direct attack on American interests and treated as such.

  • @CommissarRed so your point is that Nicaragua asked for help but the Soviets had pussied out???

Dude, I think you're seriously delusional and misinformed, and you're just regurgitating the old Neocon pretext for unlawfully terrorizing the Nicaraguan population....

  • @CommissarRed this is a video about how that's played out, the accusations were hysterical and demonstrably untrue at the time /watch?v=YP-FYeNmdGI

  • it is a good thing he is dead. He was just another Bohemian grove masonic Luciferian piece of shite

  • @hanksnow82 The left hates YOU, not just the "far left." When your children and grandchildren are living like third-world people, they will know exactly who to blame.

  • @DamnBulletin I relize the left hates me , they hate all successful people .Later loser

  • @hanksnow82 I have a feeling that you are too old for the 'show me yours, I'll show you mine' game. Most people on the left have paychecks bigger than yours. They don't stoop to your level of moral mendacity to get their paychecks, that's the difference. They also don't raise their children to be purposefully ignorant, homophobic and liars, a big difference.

  • @DamnBulletin Like most people on the left your original premise is wrong and you just continue on from there .

  • @hanksnow82 "Successful" in your perception of where you are. Watch "Reaganomics Sucked Wealth Up, Did Not Trickle It Down" from this same channel The Real News (not fox) and your exact perception of success is described at that clip.

  • @hanksnow82 Your comments are asenine. People that destroy and hate this country are being highlighted these days as they did have their way to completely demolish the American way for the eight years of Bush Cheney. You stick out so badly out of the crowd. Go sell your garbage some place else.

  • *whew* Chock full of information! I'm getting carpal tunnel syndrome from clicking the Like icon over & over

  • Reagan was A DISASTER for the country !

  • Until President Bush 43, Reagan had one of the worst international human rights record of any US president. He was the first US president to be condemned by the International Court of Justice. Nicaragua which turn into the Iran-Contra-scandal,Guatemala, Phillipines, where he supported Marcos, an evil dictator who he give refugee in Hawaii after he was overthrown by his people. Excellent interview with Wilkerson and Parry by the RealNews network.

  • @tubegeg the propblem is what american people have see its the positive thing their gorvernment had done, but not want to see the negative thing.

  • @tubegeg ...Reagan did whatever Bush wanted as well as Donald Regan. Reagan didnt even want Bush on the ticket, but he was forced onto the ticket by Gerald Ford, who pardoned Nixon. It was the takeover of the right and it was fueled by drug money and Wall Street speculators.

  • @hanksnow82 wtf does that have to do with anything?

  • @hanksnow82

Sounds more like you'd be a lover of the "free market" to me. ;)

  • 13:30 Excellent point! The idea that the president is pulling every string is absurd. Just like CEOs, presidents are spokespersons for their party and the real power wielders. If they step out of line they are expendable. It will be next to impossible to curb the trend of military expansion and nanny-state 'progress' in this country. Too much money and power would be lost if it were stopped. The dam has broken and will never be rebuilt. We the people are to blame.

  • @thekswervedirt However, there have been times where a leader has successfully blitzed the bureaucracy with mass firings and replacements with people more loyal. A purge. No empire lasts forever. The US is no exception. Kennedy tried, but he did it too slowly.

  • @Nogrentain True that. But loyal to who, or what?

  • I think this interview was great and the gentlemen pointed out a lot of aspects of Reagan's presidency that should be known and remembered by everyone. To the wars he waged internationally I would add the wars he waged domestically: against poor people - his trying to have ketchup declared a vegetable in poor children's school lunches, for example - and against gay people - never mentioning AIDS or funding a penny's worth of research while half a million people died.

  • War criminal. Try google Nicaragua v. USA. Also Sutton: The best enemy money can buy.

  • paul jay always covers the news and issues that the mainstream media often tries to avoid. thumbs up

  • I like Eduardo Galeano's take: "Ronald Reagan was the first TV president in history, elected and re-elected in the 1980s: a mediocre actor, who in his long Hollywood years had learnt to lie with sincerity before the eye of the camera, and who,on the strength of his siken voice had landed a job as an announcer for General Electric. In the age of television, that was all Reagan needed for a political career.[cont]"

  • @NicosNicosNicosNicos "..His ideas, which were few, came from Readers Digest Selections. As writer Gore Vidal verified, the Reader's Digest full collection, for Reagan, was as valuable as Montesquieu's works had been to Jefferson. Thanks to the small screen,President Reagan was able to convince U.S. public opinion that Nicaragua was a threat.Speaking before a map of North America, which gradually reddened starting from the south,Reagan managed to prove that Nicaragua would invade the U.S.,via Texas."

  • Some of us lived through Reagan and find the veneration of him to be quite ridiculous. But it is true, you can lay the feet of the Imperial Presidency at the feet of the Reagan Administration.

  • "Silent enim leges inter arma"

In times of war laws fall silent.

  • The far left hates Ronald Reagan but then again they hate America .

  • @hanksnow82

    No.

  • @hanksnow82 Hahaha. Any fan of genocide or people who don't value human life in the 'Third World' can't fail to love Reagan though.

  • @hanksnow82 10 Things that Conservatives Dont Want You to Know About Ronald Reagan 1. He was a serial tax raiser. 2. Nearly tripled the federal budget deficit. 3. Unemployment soared after Reagan’s 1981 tax cuts. 4. He grew the size of the federal government tremendously. 5. He did little to fight a woman’s right to chose. 6. He was a “bellicose peacenik.” 7. Gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants. 8. He illegally funneled weapons to Iran. 9. He illegally funneled weapons to Iran.
  • @hanksnow82 What drugs causing this kind of halucinations? Too much hates

  • Excellent debate!

The Real news are REAL NEWS.

No bullshit glorification of the total corporate takeover which was accelerated under Reagan feeding the military buildup.

    Was that Alzheimer's Karma?

Nancy Boy, second class actor , not even the first in a succession of corporate puppets and bootlickers.

The Divine Muppet Show scaring a paranoid populace into helplessness and stupor, the "Patriot ACT" (treason) the tool of tyrants.

    Peas.

  • I Feel Reagan had Alzheimers thru all of his Presidency!

  • All our Presidents And Congresspeople need to undergo some kinda psychological tests to see if there mentally fit to hold office!

  • Right on. Well-informed, in-depth coverage, civil debate... won't see this on US TV.

  • Dick Cheney is one of the biggest dicks in history

  • They weren't talking much about domestic issues, but it is important to remember that when Reagan finished his term, he had the worst exiting approval ratings of any president since they starting tracking those things about 50 years ago. That is... until GW Bush broke Reagan's record for disapproval ratings for an exiting president.

  • Yep, the sad truth is the sleeping simply listen to mass media and hop on the idiot band wagon. A celebration? Wow, he must've been a great man! Yuck, yuck.

  • People worship Reagan and that's sad...it's actually scary too.

  • Excellent broadcast!

True each president is credited or blamed for what is happening during his presidency. It often takes decades until new legislation and policy implications reach its full effect but people don't understand this and blame Obama for the depression when in fact much of the deficit financing, de-regulation of Wall St. and Walmartization were started (or boosted) under Reagan, look up Reaganomics.

Don't forget the 100 billion SDI scifi fantasy, a horrible waste of public money!

  • Reagan was the most worthless piece of shit that has ever been in that office but at least he was smart enough not to get caught for his Iran-Contra crap unlike Tricky Dick Nixon...

  • I have one question for all these small minded egodrunk children in adult bodies - "If I told you to go fuck yourself, how would you do that?"

The power to rule should be given to those who LEAST want it - not the power hungry fucks who seem to crop up all the time . . . where are the humans who acknowledge and respect the humanity of others? Philosophers and scientists should be in positions of power - not malfunctioning cronies and psychologically damaged minds.

  • PNAC.

  • Fu*k Reagan. Hope he goes to Hell for the crimes of humanity that he committed in the killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Central and South America.

  • If we really knew all of the hidden games our politicians have played over the years and continue to play. . . . And we wonder why the World hates us. The American people have lost control of its government.

  • Notice how Dick Cheney's name keeps coming up and how he screwed us then and screwed us again in 2001-2009. Reagan was not such a great guy, I never liked him and these are a few reasons why. Iran-Contra was a scandal that should have gotten him impeached !

  • Wilkerson is an extremely capable guy. I trust him 50 - 60%, while I trust anybody else 0%. I would say he should run for president. What do you think about it?

  • @r0ll0t0masi

I totally agree, in a perfect world, I wish he would go for it and have a decent shot. Unfortunately, he is not the kind of guy who will surrender intellect to sound bites and talking points.

  • @Eric2221

If he had more feedback like this, maybe he would think about it. This was my intention ;)...

  • 14:45 America not to interfere in foreign adventures. HA! When will we ever learn...perhaps never as long who are of these mind-set are in power.

  • Obama is doing the same thing in Central America as what Reagan did. Check out what happened in Honduras.

  • Great interview and great history lesson.

  • Five stars =D

  • And here comes the same old "what if terrorist put their hands on a nuclear bomb" propaganda. Yes because Pakistani don't have locks and guards to protect such weapons like we do here. yea right! Truth is the establishment would like to bring one nuke so they can have their war with Iran. When i mean the establishment as Israel.

  • pure evil

  • 100th anniversary of ... hell anyone? What a joke!

  • USSR wasn't an evil empire, its all perspective, they were protecting themselves and their people and their own interests, just like we do. The USA is exactly like what the USSR was 30 years ago. We are waging a war in Afghanistan, against the EXACT same enemy that the USSR was fighting!!! Doesn't anyone find this strange, ?! We are hypocrites, and I don't mean individuals, i mean the results of our governments policies.

  • the Real News is the best channel

  • Always interesting with Wilkerson on ;)...

  • fuck gaygan!!!

  • Lousy "B" Actor.

    And his movies sucked too!

  • Reagan was a curse!

  • always good to see intelligent, mature people in a debate

  • Paul... You are the one of the most respectful and professional journalists of our time.

    Keep up the good work.

  • This is a good argument for an age limit on the Presidency. You must admit that his painting the USSR (Russia) as the Evil Empire and the military buildup was partly the product of an elderly man who wanted to live out some sort of patriotic fantasy at taxpayer expense. We need an age limit.

  • @xander7ful we don't just need an age limit, we need to get rid of leaders and positions of power, so that influence is proportional. Power always corrupts.

  • @ramberghini That person was groping for weird solutions. Age limits won't fix anything. However, your solution is straightforward and reasonable.

  • @xander7ful There is some logic in that, because the country should be in the hands of individuals who represent those who will inherit the country.

When you look at older presidents, some just don't care about what the state of the country will be like 10-30 years down the road when they're old, rich, retired men & the youth are left to handle their mess.

A younger president might understand better, since he'll still be young enough 10-30 years later to be effected by his decisions today!

  • @xander7ful Nothing to do with his age. The USSR were and ARE bad guys. Political prisoners put in psychiatric institutions etc. The wider view is that is that who ever is putting the strings were also pulling his at the time. When you blame presidents and little politicians, you are blaming the marionette and not the person pulling the strings. Someone in the background who you will never see, but follow the money and power.

  • @Bently100 We have political prisoners in psych hospitals here too. Where do you think anxiety and major depression come from? Where does the stress that contributes to schizophrenic breaks come from? How about why some men beat women? All these factors are well known and totally predictable and much of the intelligence was obviously gathered from the USSR. The brilliance of the system in America is, people get sick and blame themselves.

  • @barkulator We are fond of saying, "Life is hard." It's not "life" that is so hard, it's what *people* do with the planet we live on that makes life so hard. Young people especially don't have a clue that all our troubles are totally man made. Everywhere on earth you can hear, "God is sending us difficulties to overcome." It's all man made bullshit we have ever had to deal with. Now we have analysts who weaponize instincts and emotions. For the greater good, of course. >barf<

  • @barkulator So we can all live better or more happily someday. But someday never comes, never has.

  • @barkulator the expression is something like "they piss on us and say that it's raining".

  • @barkulator I agree with much of what you say.

  • @xander7ful Or we could just make our leaders follow the law.

  • @bsimpson505 Good luck with that one. Sigh.

  • @xander7ful Despite your 21 thumb salute from YouTubers, I fail to understand your argument. I'm no Reagan fan but nothing in the video discusses his age. His age and/or senility had little to do with his tarnished legacy. Remember that while blame is laid at Reagan's feet, much of his "decisions" were brought about by his NeoCon handlers. Reagan was an actor and a political mouthpiece, like Sarah Palin. Age limits would only narrow the field of political mouthpieces who would run for office.

  • @xander7ful I agree, FDR was way past it in his last term as well.

  • @xander7ful Build up; not so bad. $1 trillion on "Star Wars"; horrible.

  • @xander7ful While it is true there are correlations between age, behaviors, and beliefs, it does not follow from that fact an age limit would be beneficial. We can simply not vote for unqualified candidates, regardless of the reasons they are unqualified. Extra rules unnecessarily exclude quality candidates. We are more than our ages, and while there are more 50-year-olds that would make good presidents than 80-year-olds, there is no reason to eliminate a great candidate solely because he is 80.

  • @xander7ful An elderly man with aging views, sure. I'm almost certain that his views were manipulated by his advisors for the gain of their agendas. On the other hand, younger presidents would also suffer manipulation due to their possible naiveté.

  • @xander7ful If we had a proper educated democracy that would be unnecessary because everyone would know better than to vote for an elderly man. Unfortunately that vast majority of the nation is quite frankly, retarded, and are completely behind old hicks like this man. McCain did get 47% of the popular vote mind you.

  • News with no views, the way it should be.

Paul, you have recently been un-slanting your reports beautifully, and are do a great job. Keep it up please, maybe the MSM will take your cue and do the same...

but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

  • Another of Amerika's greatest war criminals.

  • Spot on Paul Jay about the US national security ideology in Latin America.

  • RONALD REAGAN WAS A CATASTROPHE!

  • The last thinking President was John F. Kennedy. They want zombies.

  • @ittlebite Yes, the man had the foresight to authorized the printing of silver-certificate dollars in June '63 (Exec Order 10001) to pay for the on-coming Vietnam war with non debt-based dollars. Too bad it got him killed. And too bad LBJ nixed them right after taking office.

  • @ittlebite Bush Sr. didn't fool around.

  • @ittlebite Carter studied nuclear physics. He has a genius IQ; much smarter than Kennedy, who had lots of smart people around him.

  • @HeronimousPhunk

Being an outsider looking in, it seems to that the Democrat presidents have high IQ's and the Republican presidents have IQ's that could be mistaken for a shoe size.

Reagan left the world with policies that cost the world a lot of grief for which we are all suffering, the biggest losers being the poor, the homeless, the unemployed. The winners being the corporate rich and the unlimited budget as enjoyed by the US military.

At least 54% of US taxes are spent on the military.

  • Who really think uncle Ronny was the decision maker?

  • The americans won because they were far more crazy, I don't see it as a very fruitful victory when your are the one treatening to destroy the entire world.

  • Its always great when you guys get Lawrence Wilkerson on here. He's the best.

and thank you of course, for providing us with this insight.

  • So they basically used keynesian economics as a scapegoat to blame for the enormous post-war deficit and thrust us into economic austerity? Hm... why does that sound familiar?

  • It's a shame that conservatives like Wilkerson don't exist anymore.

  • @Christ724 you talk like Wilkerson is dead!?! Of course they still exist, but they are marginal. Colin Powell is the most prominent representative of this strand. While Bush W was in office we would hear from Conservatives linked to his father pushing alternative courses of action, but they got ignored.

  • Reagan came in with all the crazies.

And after Reagan did his 2 terms, he left but the crazies stayed and they've been here ever since.

I, and all my buddies, were 5th grade ultra-nerds at the time of when Reagan announced his Star Wars Missile Defense system and WE KNEW IT WAS ALL BALONEY!!!

    That's right, Reagan couldn't even fool grade school kids with his Star Wars Missile Defense B U L L S H I T.

Towards the end of his 2nd term Reagan was even showing signs of dementia; talked about aliens.

  • @ZedAlfa273 Are you familiar with Nikola Tesla's work regarding a 'Star War's' missile defense system? A 'Star Wars' missile defense system does exist.

  • Reagan. The actor that Bush Sr. tried to have assassinated.

  • Reagean said the Talibans are the freedom fighters, we must respect Reagean said !

  • @XpresloX I wouldn't treat any one ad-hominem including Regan. Was that statement he said true? Yes it was at the time. And it certainly seems to be now.

Does that make everything Regan says right (or wrong?) No. You judge each comment on it's own.

Heck even Bush said some valid and true stuff. I certainly wouldn't recommend listening to him in general but any person can say true and untrue things.

  • @sirellyn Al Quaida is evil, to have killed those Russians was disgusting.

War lords & Taliban terrorised the population for decades, for ?

SU documents from that period reveal Reagan's reason to be junk.

Russia now sells oil to EU. They are not so different in reality, less foot stomping.

Do not get me wrong, SU from Stalin is thugs. but there was no plan to invade the west.

Reagan knew that, was a fool, or both.

USA is like a history of lies that never get fixed in time.. to fix the USA.

  • @marsCubed

just like they lied and inflated the SU stockpile of nuclear weapons

  • @sirellyn Yup. Even Marx was right about some stuff. Hell, I was watching a doc hosted David Duke on America's disastrous relationship with Israel and what he was saying was 90% accurate (in my view). Everyone's opinion is worth listening to. Some people are wrong in their ideas, others are just plain self-interested liars; regardless, listening helps understand their fears and motivations.

  • @XpresloX Maybe you shouldn't smoke crack before you post comments on youtube. Just a thought.

  • @bigge525 just find in yt and you can finf the video what i said

  • @XpresloX Absolutely! Try google BBC now admits Al Qaeda never existed. This is ilusion that Soviets and US made competition and US fought against soviets. Sutton: The best enemy money can buy
