go to ipodlinux. org, than press the official installer, than choose the operating program that ur working in(windows xp is the most common), i dont know weather its gonna help u, but i tried all the linuxes and rockboxes and nothig worked exept for this, it took me about a minute to install it)))
probably most professional things (especially modelling and rendering) are done under *nix (mac os x (photoshop) or linux (maya modelling, rendering)) - in most terms windows seems to be just consumerware (especially if microsoft really stops to support OpenGL properly... :-))
Just for the record... I am most DEFINITELY not a Winblows user!! And that is also my point... Linux is nuthin' but a SLAVE-OS for other platforms, be it file server or net-render node or the likes. But most definitely not for the desktop... it'll NEVER make it there on a level that could be taken seriously or even pose a threat to ANYone, sorry. Dream on.
sure!! It'll be HIGHLY practical... as soon as Apple decides to include glasses or a MICROSCOPE! Duuuuuh... as if the "video" iPod weren't too dinky already, hey, let's do it on the NANO!!
wow... just as pointless as Linux itself! Cool! Just like 9/10ths of everything you can (well, CAN'T) do with Linux (other than run as a server): no practical or practical use... but hey, what a cool HACK, whether I need or not! The programmers of this "feature" obviously need to both see more of the outside world AND need to get a (non-inflatable) relationship going.
Hmmmm... ever try ANYTHING professional OTHER than some SERVER? Like, in a professional audio/video/film environment, other than as render-slaves?? Puh-leeeeze... great servers, I'm sure, but utterly USELESS on the desktop other than maybe as OpenOffice slave for some secretary, but even then, having to pay some guy for 1-3 days to even get the damn thing running (been there, done that)... nope. ZERO chance on the desktop.
mmmmh-hmmm... you do that, shouldn't be too hard! Keep up the professional word-processing. Funny how when you call LINUX nerds on their bluff it get all quiet or just non-specific, vague BLAAA BLAA comes up (sound familiar?). Turns out they're some sys admin that actually thinks GIMP & Co. have something to do with PROFESSIONAL... lol. Dream on, bud. You're sure to get out of the server room SOON! ... to the MAIL room!
Yepp... figured as much. It never fails. Call a Linux user on their bluff and all is quiet. Just vague hints, no substance. Makes you wonder why they keep trying ooover and ooover again anyway. Profusely disillusioned?
uh, in a professional audio/video/film enviroment linux is useless?
by saying that, are u actually a professional in these fields? it would be hard to imagine with your knowledge to survive in those fields.
just to name a few:
ever heard of Shake? maya? xsi? houdini?
the only thing i think personal linux is lack of maybe the video editing ability. final cut pro would be a good alternative, dont even start comparing it to premiere in windows. they are just not on the same level.
LINUX for Shake?? LOL! Goes to show me what YOU know about the pro Film and Video biz! Which MORON would buy Shake for LINUX for $4999?! You realize that you can get Shake AND a MacPro that kicks ANY Linux machine's ASS (in speed AND usability!) for the same price, right? And no, you CAN'T get FCP for Shake, so what the hell is it good for?? Oh yeah... maybe a RENDER SLAVE. Yipee! Off to the server room, but sure as hell not to my DESKTOP!
Wow... GREAT arguments! Makes us ALL want to use Linux, just so we can say that we use the same thing as that moron fukkweed on YouTube! Hooray! Get a LIFE you small dicked little 8-year old. YOU can't come up with any reasons for using Linux EITHER, as we can see! LOL! What a LOSER.
And I'll think about my mom's clit, once I'm finished with YOUR mom's. She LOVES it and says it's better that what YOU'VE been able to do for her!
Can you have rockbox and Ipod Linux?

They need to be formatted for the resolution of the iPod Nano screen, you can find out exactly how to do it on the iPod Linux site.

I guess you're a mac user then, mac osx is based on unix

It isn't practical to view vide on the Nano? I think its cool, however I'm sure there is a kernel better suited for this than the Linux kernel.

Good to know - next time I'm using a Linux desktop, like the one I use everyday for work, I'll make sure not to do anything professional on it.
