@ILoveFriedFetus as 12 year dancer, you can tell this isn't Natalie's body dancing throughout the whole movie, Sara definitely deserved the credit she got for the dancing scenes as well as Natalie for her acting
@HinajikuDumpling i think he means that she is not putting 200% of her effort into her turns... 'attack it' is kind of like when photographers ask models to 'be fierce', you go into every movement with your all like you're already on stage, with a kind of ferocity and passion. that's how i interpret it, anyway. hope this helps!
Agreed, the movie was about her losing her mind by trying to strive for perfection. All the talk of who danced is nonsense. Besides if you know the true "Swan Lake Ballet", you could pick the movie apart more. The "Dying Swan" is not part of the traditional Swan Lake. It is a very short ballet written in the 20's-30's called THE SWAN. "Dying Swan" was choreographed for Anna Pavlova who for the first time danced on pointe. Prior to that dance was bare foot or half toe.Enjoy the movie 4 wht it is
Okay obviously the close ups of the feet, the more complicated sequences, and most of the full body shots were the dance double but that's really besides the point. This movie is about an artist's decent to madness while trying to capture perfection. Ballet is just the conduit through which the story is told. Calling Black Swan a film about Ballet is saying The Fountainhead is about architecture or Animal Farm is about farm animals.
I wish the Trolls and Flamers would leave Black Swan alone. Im sure all the fans of the movie realize that Natalie is not a Ballerina, and so she is not credited as being a ballerina.. That being said, why can't we see the movie for its entertainment value and not whether the actor is a ballerina or not. If you even watched the damn thing you'd realize that ballet is a secondary factor of the movie, the main point of it is Nina's mental state. Hence why it is called a psychological thriller geez
@xXShrinkWrapXx That would be ok if Sarah Lane got mention by the N.P.'s acceptance speech by the Oscars. I must disagree, the movie was much about ballet because if you understood anything about Swan Lake, you would understand that the story/movie is based upon it. Psychological thriller??? What do you think Swan Lake is? Entertaining it was but that is about it. Was ballet secondary? No, it was the vehicle that carried the movie. The dancing was secondary!
@mrteryx Well Duh, that's why they chose Swan Lake...It would not have made sense if they chose like Don Quixote, or The Nutcracker. Because the main point of the story is the whole "Alter Ego" setting. But the dancing itself is secondary. However the actual performance, meaning the story, and the meaning of Swan Lake, is the vehicle. Some people who have danced their whole lives could not dance as great as Sarah Lane did in the movie. So why do people expect Natalie Portman to? its just a movie
@xXShrinkWrapXx "So why do people expect Natalie...?" Because...the majority of those cinema goers have the slightest clue about ballet! If they did, then the producers would have not requested S. Lane to wait after the Oscars before divulging more about her participation in the movie. 2) N. P. would have acknowledged by the Oscars her, S.L.'s, valuable contribution. Give credit where credit is due!
@mrteryx explain that to people who use music samples from other artists in their music, and give no credit where it is due, other than in the song notes.....I agree to give credit where it is due... however i find it quite disgusting that everyone is making Natalie seem like some kind of monster for not mentioning Sarah's name... It's not like Natalie said "I did ALL the dancing, and there were NO OTHER dancers contributing to MY dance scenes." So how is she doing anything wrong?
@xXShrinkWrapXx I do not believe she, N.P., is a monster. Credit should be given where credit is due. I do believe that this oversight was intentional. Perhaps, not by her own doing but by directive from the higher-ups. The S.L.'s dancing was an important integral part to the film's overall success. N.P.'s roll, as a dancer, suffering under the psychological strain fulfilling the part as prima ballerina, was the main focal point. She just conveniently omitted this mention. Life goes on!
@aprilthrusday but...she's a double, she's just like a stunt man. You're not supposed to know they are there. OF COURSE they tried to hide her. When I saw the movie I knew Portman wasn't doing most of the dancing and anyone who think she actually WAS dancing like that is an idiot.
Natalie Portman has to facial expressions: crying and looking like a twisted bitch, and she got the Oscar for those two expressions. Now that's marketing.
@adballet I'm sure your comment would have hurt me.Except the fact i am a dancer and i do own pointe shoes . so you have no effect on me whatsoever .Can't you see that you're losing here? everybody is against you.So shut your mouth and go to your little ballet class like a good bitch
Why are you all ganging up on one person? It's hard enough to be the one person with a different opinion surrounded by vids and comments praising the opposite. Yeah once in a blue moon if I want something said I go to a bunch of vids and write it too, we'll all do it at some point, that's what commenting is for. In Kill Bill stunt woman Zoe Bell did over 90% of the stunts.anyone know who SHE is? , what did Uma Thurman do? act, cuz that's what she paid for. They shouldn't b get accolades for more
@adballet Oh my god, we get it, Sarah Lane is the double and she isn't happy that she isn't getting the recognition she deserves; I get that it takes years to be amazing, I think everyone gets that! But seriously, are all these arguments necessary? Everyone is tired of seeing your name pop up, on every video complaining. Natalie did a great job, Sarah did a great job, okay? Leave it at that. And it's a movie, sometimes they aren't going to show the full body; it doesn't mean the dancing is fake.
@LeaJuliennex So, get out of here and stop reading. It takes more the dirty mouth high caps to scare a dancer. Hahaha! Try put a pair of pointe shoes own and see if your dirty mouth is going to scare you at any point.
I don't need to read what the director wrote, I have trained eyes and I can see what she did + what she didn't. So that you know, getting paid in this business is NOT enough, you have also to get credit for it. If they didn't want to give credit for anybody they should have used only Natalie short legs, arms, sickled feet along, sticking out knees, along with her misplaced heads, stiff neck, and bad cha cha cha. If you want a first class artist you should give credit + the pay check of course.
@adballet Well, then you can just remain blinded by your love for Sarah Lane and constant crying over how she should be showered with gifts and recognition for something that was her JOB. Yes, I'm sure she is a beautiful dancer with a lot of talent because of hard work over the years, however, she is not the only dancer who has ever worked their ass off. She needs to quit acting like a spoiled brat and get over the fact that she isn't the center of attention. Give me a fucking break.
@rachelx1129 I would appreciate if you kept your language clean. She gets a lot of recognition, but I guess not so much from people who favor f words. And try to get the point, she is complaining because by saying that a 28 year old can become a world class prima ballerina in a year and a half. This is a disgustingly putting down the profession. And if you think she doesn't get recognition try to get once in your life to New York's Metropolitan Opera House.
@adballet That's exactly the point! SHE is the one who is claiming not to get recognition for being Portman's double in the movie. That's what I'm trying to say. I actually love ballet and I think it's a true art that which I agree, I don't think just anyone can pick up and master. But, I don't think Natalie or any of her people ever meant to insinuate that she is this phenomenal dancer now after training for a year and a half. I'm not meaning to be nasty, I just want to get my point across.
@rachelx1129 You are completely wrong. Anyone who knows about ballet knows she is NOT doing the dancing. When she stretches the foot to the side you don't see the face well, and the legs are LONG, this is Lane. When she does the pique turns you see the face, then the feet, then the Ballet Master, then upper body, then Master, then face, you see fouettes from far away + back/side, face, Master, face, Master, face, legs falling down. Every time lower body + full body (Lane) face upper, Natalie.
@adballet yes. sarah lane was the double and did some dancing. she deserves credit of course but she needs to stop bitching about not getting mentioned in everything that has to do with the film. she signed a contract and was paid to do her job. which is to be a double, not the focus of the entire film. and if you want the actual truth, read up on darron aronofsky's statement about the EXACT shots and frames he used of Natalie.
@rachelx1129 They are claiming and told Lane to stop giving interviews until after the Oscars. A LOT of people think she did the whole dancing. And, FYI, the director is considering upper-body shots in which they show only her face as dancing shots. This is not considered dance shoots. In ballet you have 2 legs, 2 arms, 5 fingers and 1 head at all times. Breaking down only a piece of the body makes it 1000% easier once you do NOT need the necessary coordination for all parts of the body.
@adballet Okay, well I'm done arguing. Sarah, Darron, and Natalie know the truth and I personally believe Darron. And honestly, Natalie Portman is the most humble person ever and she is a wonderful actress who is literally so selfless. I admire her, and give her kudos for not breaking under all this unnecessary criticism of a role she worked very hard on and she DESERVED the recognition she got. Have a good day.
@adballet Okay, there's no reason to be nasty with me. I never brought it to that level with you, besides a couple swear words. I was pleasant to you and sincere when I said to have a good day. If you want to be that way, fine.
@rachelx1129 I don't think anybody is getting. Ballet is an art extremely devaluated due in most part to the extreme youth of its artists. When dancers learn how to speak, it is too late. Time to retire. We study for 10 years to learn how to shut up and let everybody else speak. Well, now things are changing. @rachelx1129 And, yes, Sarah Lane is not the only dancer who has worked hard. No, all professional dancers do although few get to the high level of Lane. Lane is a virtuoso technician and a marvelous artist. Far and beyond average professional dancer. And, no, Portman is not to the level of being a hard working dancer. She is NOT a dancer. And to the professional dancer all other artists a kind of a couch potatoes that do a lot of complaining because she had to dance 1.5 year in FLATS.

@MikeMsDaughter11 I think you are the one trolling me, and if you don't like what I say you can ignore my opinions and comment as well.
