Don't give up !! just keep on practicing and It'll just suddenly "Click" and off you go.

I spent 3 years not being able to make anything better than egg cups and ash trays,honest.!

Candlesticks are pretty tricky,not hard to shape but just impossible to stop flying off all over the shop.

Very cool!!! Do you try to trim the bottom or hollow it out some? Are the bases real thick? I tried the goblet example you did and it turned out really good for a first time. Thanks for your help!

I turn/trim the whole thing the next day to get a sharper profile.

I dont hollow it out though as It fires perfectly well.

It's about the limit of thickness though without it exploding in the kiln.

That seems to be the trouble people have,not waiting at least a week for it to really dry out before firing.

I just make sure it's 100% dry before firing, as any moisture in a thickish piece like the stem will tend to explode in the kiln.

It's a totally different throwing technique.

The most important thing is just trying to keep it upright as it tends to want to fly off all over the place.

Hence always having to keep it supported with both hands.
