dude this must have been hhh vs austin round 1, man this is the beggining of one of the great rivalries! wow... how wwf changed in years- these guys git the top of the wwf not soon after
They were building up Savio vs Austin for a few weeks on TV leading up to this, like Austin costing Savio a match against Salvatore Sincere, as well as Savio running down during Austin's match with HBK
i wonder if vince stood in the ring with hhh and austin at this time would he think that one would marry his daughter the other one would give him hell and both of them would become tag team champions
Really good watching Stone Cold vs Triple H in an OPENING MATCH UP!! And they went on to have classics at Wrestlemania etc. I wonder if that iscurrently happening now and we just dont know it!!!
@2knowyourrole nah the PPV was actually called "IYH: Buried Alive" lol, it was putting emphasis on the buried alive match between Undertaker and Mankind bro
Triple H had to completely reinvent himself from this persona....not Austin, vintage right down to him giving Hunter the finger after that arm drag! What were those fans saying to Austin and Triple H?
@skedardestroyer what helped get triple h going into his character was forming d-generation x with shawn. He was then able to form a more renegade like character from there
@Summerslam96 Yes. He still kind of kept the blueblood part of it early into degeneration x, but it quickly changed into the prankster type....but after he left DX, he changed yet again, into the cerebral sick violent guy he is now.
"As far as anyone havin a problem, all the sudden with the language that Stone Cold is using,,,,,, well they can just KISS MY ASS!!, and thats the bottom line." LMAO!!
I remember watching this on ppv in the 90's, and still have no clue what in the hell happen to Savio Vega that night. He was supposed to be Stone Cold vs Savio Vega.
@CreatureLikeGod Now looking back, it was a better choice. They could not pull a last min ppv match like this today with their roster. At the time, being 11, I was a bit downed about Savio Vega missing out.
@razaccour Yea TO YOU!!.... Stone Cold Steve Austin has been declared the most popular wrestler EVER if you watch the WWE's TOP 50 of ALL TIME you'd see this, or Just Google IT!!.. Sounds Unbelievable but its 100% TRUE!...
Its Kinda Funny That Triple H ,Austin, the rock and undertaker had different names in the beginning Undertaker (KAne The Undertaker) The Rock (Rocky Maivia) Stone Cold (The RingMaster) Last But Not Least Triple H (Hunter Hearst Helmsley)
@MasterOfTimeForever well Triple H is Hunter Hearst Helmsley. I think he coined triple H for shortening it. Even backstage people like shawn would call him hunter
@TheRatedIX7 what's the verdict on that? when my brother and I started to really get into WWE in 1999 he would often joke that Triple H was on roids but after looking what he looked like even a couple years before that point, he looked small. Do you really think he took a little bit of muscle enhancing drugs?
@Summerslam96 I think he's done roids more than a few times in his career. He started gettin big around mid 1999. He looked real nasty in 2002 Esp. at Wrestlemania X8. I remember somebody asked Scott Steiner when he was in the WWE if he would get tested for steroids. He told them to bring Triple H along to get tested as well. The one who asked him that question dropped the topic immediately or something like that.
JR's mic going out was apart of the storyline at the time where he was complaining about how he was being treated and then brought in the fake Razor and Diesel.
lol--jr's mic cutting off made it seem like he was cussing his ass off--he started talking about austin's language like he was a saint just a minute before and then his mic started messing up and he started to cuss himself--good job ross-lol
classic commentary-classic match-classic rivalry to come between austin and hhh and mcmahon---
Wow, seeing the guy...errr...girl around 2:56 makes ya laugh alittle seeing how she was a supporter of a man who lost his smiled and never wanted to job to anyone around that time period. but yet shes giving austin hateration. Just goes to show...
this was one of my favorite In Your Houses ever, it had just about everything from the long awaited dream match between the Masters of the Powerbomb that should had taken place three years earlier in WCW to the first ever Buried Alive match between Undertaker and his most dangerous foe ever to a classic "heel vs heel" match between two future WWF icons
Classic Stone Cold Entrance was NO JOKE! Back then u get in his way he will have your ass on your back looking at the lights and that's the bottom line! HHH being a Blue Blood was lucky he wasn't in a POOL of his own Blood!
This was the first use of Austin's glass-break music. May have been the first use of the middle finger before the stunner as well, but not sure on that.
Amazing how within a matter of 2 years the two biggest heels in the company became "fan favorites" which pretty much distorted the whole term completely...because the ones who WERE suppose to be fan favorites weren't such or were faces that were booed...lol
@rohanseth8 That's not Sable. Sable already left HHH and went with Marc Mero by this point. It doesn't look like her anyway. That blond on HHH's arm is someone else. If anyone knows please tell me.
Who would've known that the first encounter between Austin and Triple H (both heels at this time) would later turn into one of the greatest rivalries in the early 2000s, and who would've also known that these two were gonna become huge superstars and hall of famers (Triple H future hall of famer)?!?!
This heel vs. heel match reminds me of a Oct. 14th 1996 RAW match between Stone Cold and Mankind. It used to be up on youtube a couple years ago but was taken off. This match was probably one of the greatest matches I've ever seen cause Austin and Mankind tore the house down. Someone should get it up on youtube again.
@Summerslam96 They had several heel vs heel matches around this time, because it was leading into the era of the 'shades of grey' characters, or 'tweeners', and not so black and white babyface vs heel anymore. Vader vs Stone Cold and Mankind vs Owen Hart are others that I can think of that happened around this time (late 1996)
Yeah, it was much better when guys started at the bottom and slowly worked their way to the top. Now they got a guy named alberto del rio who debuted August of LAST YEAR and just won this year's Royal Rumble. Lame.
@mojo06 they did the same damn thing with Sheamus an Swagger. I may get attacked for saying it but Brock Lesnar was pushed in the same way. They wanted Stone Cold to job to Brock and Austin didn't want to do it because it was stupid. That's not how you build a wrestler especially one that's not going to be there very long like Brock. 2002 was when WWE started to lose its' clue

i dont like him either. But I rather see him with the belt over Cena, Batista, Khali, and all these other overrated bums

"As far as anyone havin' a problem all of a sudden with the language that Stone Cold is usin', well they can just kiss my ass and that'z the bottom line!" LMFAO!!

It feels so good to see this match from this (year's) view. I didnt like Hunter (at the time) and I didnt like Stone Cold either. But both these guys progressed to two of the most reverred in the WW and in the entire wrestling industry.
