  • The Beach Boys try to fit their time but the melody is too ponderous!

  • good. remake of "there's A Riot Going On"

  • Proof that The Beach Boys could, in fact, completely suck at times

  • I wish the Beach Boys entire history wasn't so totally dominated by the genius that is Brian Wilson. I mean, in blurbs about their career, I've never once seen any band member's name except for Wilson. I just wish people appreciated more about the band.

  • big up to berkeley, california on this track baby.

  • I'm kinda split down the middle with this one. It's kinda cool, kinda lame. And you guys need to hear "Jackson-Kent State Blues" by The Steve Miller Band. You wanna talk about a song with atmosphere that deals with the whole Kent State killings.

  • It was on Surf's Up...Brian Wilson is the man...

  • do any of you homos know what year this is from

  • @flakbac not to be a smartass but im a homo and 1971 :P

  • @flakbac 1971

  • Unbelieveable!!! I've only heard this song ONCE, long ago on the radio! Wow, this is the Beach Boys! Right on, thanks!

  • This song is a re-write of the 1954 Robins (later The Coasters) song, "Riot in Cell Block #9."

  • Reminds me of protesting the Vietnam war in high school! The beginnings of protests against censored music, the rebellion against the establishment! Anyone remember this age?

  • I love the Beach Boys with all my heart :)

  • After a couple of nice album, The Beach Boys go way down, thinking that because they are famous, they are qualified to venture into this kind of political crap! I miss so much their early recordings when I hear this!

  • @ENACODNOM It's just them telling the truth.

  • nice song!

  • Mike Love is a douche.

  • In the light of what's going on in Egypt seems the perfect song...

  • @thebchbys A riot is nothing to joke about people get killed i was stuck in the middle of one that the police insited at the newport jazz festival i know a private investigator that arrested 30 people in a riot .In egypt if the country goes all fanatic like in iran we have a problem it wont be a democracy .

  • @spacepatrolman I'm not joking ....especially when Mike Love sings "The Pen is mightier than the sword but no match for a gun"

  • @thebchbys maybe the internet is a match for a gun because there are police brutality videos in youtube that expose that

  • The 2nd verse could not be more true

  • The big question is: Does the chorus line end in a question mark?

  • Ace production. Amazing it got released at the time!

  • Yeah, this is pretty appropriate right now XD

  • Not their greatest song by a long chalk - but pretty topical right now, I'd say!

  • Late 60's, early 70's.........it's like the story told that goes flat: "guess you just had to be there". The Beach Boys were, their warning in this tune was sincere. Words to the wise, nothing more.

  • sounds like fake anger

  • @djouix27 Probably less so than CSN&Y's Ohio.

  • sux

  • It even mentions Isle Vista! And Santa Barbara is such a piece of shit town. It's friggin Mayberry. Trust me I'm living it and can't wait to get out. Did you know the cops can crash into you in your car while they are in an UNMARKED Dodge Truck cutting accross the opposite side of the street and then SUE YOU for getting in the way! Yea, Really. And then the Mayberry thing comes into play. Everyone in bed with everyone in the town.

  • @russelljdj in new jersey if a cop crashes into you and puts you in a wheel chair they will say we dont know where he is we think he moved to south america

  • Surf's Up is a really nice album from the Beach Boys. Carl Wilson Shined. Aside from Ohio by CSN&Y I can't think of another song that references the Kent State Incident. An excellent social commentary on what was happening at the time, and a BIG step out of the box for the Beach Boys.

  • @russelljdj TRY CROSBY STILLS AND NASH ABOUT kENT STATE

  • proof the beach boys didn't have to suck

  • It's a good tune but no big feat by Mike Love as it's a cover of Leiber & Stoller's Riot in cell Block Number 9. Love just wrote some new lyrics to suit the times back in 69, 70 when students were out on the streets "fightin' the power".

  • Mike Love sucked? Sure, he's a terrible person, but he gave us this, and "Do it Again." What else do you need?

  • @Hister333 Yeah he also gave us shit like Kokomo

  • @penetration999 I think that was John Phillips, actually.

  • Wow, so this was Mike Love's answer to Pet Sounds....gawd he sucked

  • Wow! That's quite the song...reminds me a bit of Revolution by the Beatles.

  • @belladeballe Definantly my 1st thought when I 1st heard it. Both great songs tho.

  • @MrRangel1983 Wasn''t Paul envious about Brian's talent?
